Different backgrounds. Different experiences. Different perspectives. One shared commitment: ending neglected tropical diseases. Cohort 1 of the #YouthNTDsFellowship brought together young professionals who may have started the journey as individuals, but found themselves becoming part of something bigger — a growing community of young people learning from one another and working towards a common goal. The real impact wasn't just in the sessions attended or the knowledge gained. It was in the conversations between sessions, the ideas exchanged, the connections made, and the realization that no one has to work towards #NTDsElimination alone. These were Angel John's reflections from her Cohort 1 experience. The next testimonial could be yours 👩💻 This community is growing, and Cohort 2 is next. For Cohort 1, the fellowship created a space where young professionals could ask questions, exchange ideas, challenge assumptions, and engage with the realities of neglected tropical diseases from perspectives beyond their own. That is the kind of shift that defines the #YouthNTDsFellowship. Because sometimes, what young people need is not another reminder that they can make a difference — but a space where they can actually begin. Now, another group of young voices is about to join the conversation. 📅 Applications for cohort 2 open 15 September 2026. Today in Nairobi, I’m joining fellow changemakers, researchers, innovators, institutions and partners at the inaugural #CultureofScience Conference 2026 (Sept 8-10)—a timely conversation about how #Africa can move from scientific ambition to measurable action. As a representative of the Global Alliance for NTDs Elimination - GANE Kenya, being a member of The Coalition for Health Research and Development (CHReaD), I’m particularly encouraged by the emphasis on building science systems that are not only innovative, but inclusive, locally owned and connected to the realities of communities. The Culture of Science Action Agenda 2026–2030 challenges us to think beyond commitments on paper—towards stronger talent pipelines, accessible health solutions, resilient food systems, African innovation and manufacturing, public trust in science, and sustainable domestic financing. For me, one message stands out: science must ultimately improve lives. Young people have a critical role to play in making that happen—not simply as beneficiaries of Africa’s science and innovation ecosystem, but as contributors, leaders and co-creators of the solutions Africa needs. At #GANE, we remain committed to ensuring that young voices are part of conversations and actions that shape the future of health, science and #NTDsElimination across Africa. The work towards 2030 is bigger than any one institution. The ecosystem acts 🌍 Follow the live session here: https://lnkd.in/dCexQcBN #ScienceInAfrica #BeatNTDs #YouthInScience #Africa2030 #ScienceForDevelopment

What changes when young people are given the opportunity to learn, connect, and lead? For young professionals who took part in Cohort 1, an initial initiative of the One Health Society-Tanzania, the #YouthNTDsFellowship was more than a learning experience. It was a space to build knowledge, grow in confidence, connect with peers, and discover new ways to contribute to #NTDsElimination. Their experiences remind us that when young people are equipped with the right knowledge, networks, and opportunities, they don’t just participate — they find their voice and step forward as leaders. Now, a new chapter is about to begin. 📅 Applications for Cohort 2 open on 15 September 2026. This is Winnie M. Mwendwa's story; the next story could be yours 👤 #YNTDsLeadership #BeatNTDs #YouthLeadership #Youth4Health #OneHealth

The #YouthNTDsFellowship is preparing to open its next chapter with Cohort 2, creating a new opportunity for young people to deepen their knowledge, strengthen their leadership, and contribute meaningfully to #NTDsElimination. The first cohort, implemented by One Health Society-Tanzania in Tanzania, demonstrated the impact of investing in young people and creating meaningful pathways for them to learn, lead, and engage in the NTDs response. Building on this foundation, the fellowship is now expanding through collaboration with #GANE, strengthening cross-border youth leadership and creating opportunities for young leaders across Tanzania and Kenya to connect, learn, lead, and contribute to the goal of ending NTDs. 📅 Applications open: 15 September 2026. If you are a young person passionate about health, leadership, and making a difference in the fight against #NTDs, Cohort 2 is an opportunity to watch. Stay tuned for more updates 📲 #YNTDsLeadership #BeatNTDs #YouthLeadership #Youth4Health #OneHealth
