Junk guys are miracle workers!

Image
I am couch-less. Without sofa bed. Camping out on the floor. Woohoo! They came prepared to cut it up, but didn't need to. They didn't even need to take the doors off! They took the short legs off and got the right angle and out it went. I asked if I could take a pic, no faces, for my blog. The guy on the left stood up and asked if I wanted to snap another with him standing. I said no, the pants sliding down was fine. LOL.    He's not bending from the knees. Sorry for the blurry pic, but I couldn't exactly tell them to stop so I could fiddle with the camera. In any event, there she goes!  :-) The company (1-800-Got-Junk) does donate what and where they can, so I hope it will go to a charity or that someone they know can make good use of it. But if not...shrug. It was about 25 years old and didn't owe me any money. Speaking of which, it was half what I thought it would be to remove it, so I gave them a hefty tip. It's ironic that the...

All set for the main level flooring installation

Image
The main level flooring is scheduled for Friday April 8th and Saturday April 9th. He figures a day and a half. Only one doorway (two sides) to angle grind this time, and everything else should be (fates willing) straightforward. I'm looking forward to having this done! **** I called 1-800-Got-Junk this morning and arranged an after-work time (today) for them to come and get rid of the old sofa bed. I specified in my comments that both the main door and screen/storm door would have to come off and then be put back on properly, or the sofa bed would have to come apart, possibly the frame cut. I'm not sure they can do either of these things, and if so, for a price I can manage, but I'll find out. Someone please cross their fingers this is doable, without breaking or damaging anything, because I'd really like to get rid of the thing. It's become the "weight" around my neck (my mind) now, and I want to streamline and simplify, so that when the time comes ...

"Two Out of Three Ain't Bad"

Image
[With a nod to Robin , who often uses snippets of songs or song titles for her blog posts.] In my case, the two out of three was two days of the three-day holiday doing...are you sitting down?...almost nothing. No major decluttering. No big spring cleaning. No renos. Nada. I had big plans for Good Friday, to get all the cleaning done, some reorganizing, etc., etc. I went back to bed instead, and managed to get all the laundry done after I got up again. I think that was it for me. Saturday was my usual errands in the morning, and pick up (thanks to a co-worker and his car) of the upstairs baseboard trim in the afternoon, from Rona. Rona, btw, charges $80 for in-city delivery on week days only, no weekends. (!!!!!!!) That's obscene. I gave my co-worker a gift certificate to a favourite store as a thank you for his time and the inconvenience. But not an $80 gift card! My garage is filled with debris now, no room for any new supplies in there, so the trim is in the living/d...

Happy Easter Weekend to All!

Image
Happy Easter and happy Spring, everyone! After our ice pellet and freezing rain storm of Thursday and Friday AM, temps are on the rise a bit and maybe, just maybe winter is done with us. Wishing everyone a wonder-full weekend, whatever you do, whatever/however you celebrate. Peace . Comments are off.

Giant Inflatable Penguin?

Image
I was walking home yesterday afternoon, along one of the streets in our general neighbourhood, and saw what looked, from a distance, to be a giant inflatable penguin. I did a double take, but it was only as I got closer that I could make out it was two people in black jackets standing at the end of one driveway, with the tail end of a silver/light grey car in the driveway behind them.  Is this a sign I should be wearing my prescription glasses? The ones I bought at Costco last summer but don't wear, because the progressive lenses make me feel ill? :-D Anyway, a happy birthday to my step-dad, who is 85 today.  Pic (you've seen) from last November, when I visited Mom I remember calling him last year for his birthday, when he still was living at their (former) home, and thinking that he wouldn't live to see 85. But being ornery and contrary, he's made it! Mom always says he'll outlive us all, and you know, she might be right.  :-) Happy birthday, H...

Signs of Spring

Image
On this first day of Spring 2016, here are a few recent signs: S nowdrops and crocuses from Thursday at lunch time   Geese, robin and red wing blackbird from Saturday.       I was so excited to finally see robins! I've been hearing them every morning and evening too but hadn't seen any until yesterday. Today has been quiet. I "popped out" to Home Depot and back (you can't "pop out" anywhere on public transit -- lol). I'm anticipating, not eagerly, the return of the "fleas" from March break. I figure they'll go out with a bang, so to speak...but at least they'll go out.  :-) As for the boys, they had great fun this morning when I opened up the sofa bed to see how difficult it would be to deconstruct (i.e. unscrew/unbolt the bed frame part to make it easier to get out of the house). They both seemed to think of it as a kitty jungle gym.     Other than that, the day has been uneventful for us all....

It doesn't look like this on HGTV

Image
D, the floor guy, was here all day, doing the entry and kitchen vinyl plus the stairs. None of the HGTV programs I watch ever shows the real mess and chaos involved, or mentions the hours of clean-up afterward. Here's the reality of having your stairs carpeted and vinyl floor put down. *** The mess and chaos when you live in a small space and have to clear things out of your entry, plus move your stove (and fridge). BTW, I'm really glad I'm down to the sub-floor on the main level -- no worry about doing damage to flooring.      Prepping the old floor.  Jeepers, look at the carpet fibres! This might be worse than Christmas tree needles. :-) The vinyl done in the entry way.  The sides of the stairs now done; very finicky work!  Did I mention the mess and chaos?  Another view of the entry.  The carpet tacks are on.   Now the underlay is on (below). I had gone for the mid-level (of three grades) of...
