Happy Halloween

Image
Happy Halloween to all who celebrate it!  Most of you know I don't bother with Halloween, for various reasons, so the boys and I will be hunkered down in the dark this evening. I'm half-expecting the former neighbour boy, who is 12 now, to come up and do some damage to the fence since they still live so close by. The girl wouldn't, but yeah, the boy would, with friends. (Anyone remember the graffiti back in spring 2014 ?) I'll find out tomorrow. So for those of you who do enjoy All Hallows Eve, here are a couple of pics I snapped last Friday afternoon, heading downtown to an appointment. It's of one of the lovely, old bed & breakfasts in the area.   Isn't that great?  Peace . (P.S. I'm on the mend from the root canal, other than the typical side effects from antibiotics. [Yes, I'm eating probiotic yogurt two or three times a day.] Friday was the first night I actually slept half-decently all week, and Saturday I was feeling m...

Beebo and Chopper

Image
Here are the two cats I encountered on Sunday: Beebo and Chopper. (I have no idea the correctly spelling of "Beebo," that's just what it sounded like.) Beebo sunning himself. His "mom" was at the water's edge combing through stones, not paying any attention to me standing there taking pics, or to the couple sitting on a nearby bench. Apparently "Beebo" goes for walks like this all the time, and also makes the rounds, visiting. (There are a number of high-rise condos in this area, overlooking the Lake.)         "Beebo" kept a close eye on his human and didn't stray far. She didn't talk to him, just kept doing her thing. And this is Chopper, out for a walk with his mom.       He'd had a lion cut for the first time this past summer, which perked him up in all the heat. His "mom" said he'd been mostly hiding away under the bed, not at all energetic, until she had him shaved. Anyway, he...

A walk in the park

Image
[Thanks for the good thoughts, they're much appreciated. I have taken a couple of Tylenol 3s, but am finding the only thing that helps even somewhat is extra-strength Ibuprofen. I'm certainly popping lots of those! If I'm not significantly improved by Monday, I'll call the endodontist's office for an appointment--he's off tomorrow anyway.] Putting aside all the post-root canal pain and misery, here are some pics from Sunday's walk by the Lake. It was sunny but blustery, as you can see! (Click to better view the pics. I just had the little Nikon p&s with me, though, not my Fuji.) The fall colours are lovely this year!   Hard to see, but there are ducks in the waves.       I took a lot of pics of the water spray!                   I'll do another post soon with the two cats I met along the way. I just don't feel like writing much today. (I hear the collective sigh of relief. Ha...

When good root canals go bad

Well, apparently I have a very bad infection, as I have absolutely agonizing pain from the lower jaw/throat right up into the ear and up the side of my face. (Yesterday I was merely sore/uncomfortable, as one might expect.) I popped into the endodontist's office first thing this morning to ask for pain killers and he gave me a prescription for 2 antibiotics plus Tylenol 3s. (I've been awake since 12:30 AM, unable to sleep with the pain.) I filled the prescriptions at the drugstore on our campus, rather than my regular pharmacy (not easily accessible to me today), then came home. I've taken the first (double dose) of antibiotics and now am waiting to see if I have a life-threatening reaction to them. As for the Tylenol 3s, I'm too scared to take them!  So, guys, there's a reason I heard so many horror stories from people who have had root canals! Peace . P.S. If you feel like sending some healing energy, I wouldn't object.

Look up...way up...No, wait, don't look up!

[Note: Thanks to all of you for good thoughts re: the root canal. I'm not excited about having to go back, but I won't dread it quite as much, either.] John Bellen, over at "I Have Three Cats", wrote an hilarious post on the weekend, partly about "Mr. Murphy's" timing in life. To that, I will add my own little story of timing, Saturday evening after showering and just when I wanted to curl up in bed and read for a while. Last year (?) I had Robin's husband, Chuck, replace the old wired-in smoke detector in the upper hall, the one that came with the house and should have been replaced about a decade or two ago. The new one also is wired in, but has battery back-up. Saturday evening I was showering before bed, per usual, when the alarm went off briefly. Scared the beejeepers out of me, so I hopped out of the tub and grabbed a towel to fan the alarm, assuming the steam had triggered it, something that's never happened before. Fin...

Root Canal Appointment #1

Image
I'm just home from that. It wasn't as long or as horrendous as I imagined, but I do need to go back for a second appointment -- too much infection to seal the roots permanently. He cleaned everything out, injected the roots with whatever (presume some sort of antibiotic) and put a temporary filling in. He'll finish (I hope) on November 29th. I might not even need another half-Ativan the next time. The plus in this is that he did not shatter the crown, so I won't need a replacement for that. Whew. On a different note, I had a lovely Sunday walk yesterday, at Lake Ontario Park, took a slew of snapshots that I'll get to later this week. A couple of "teasers": No worries, this fellow's "mom" was at water's edge, they walk like this all the time.   Another sweetie out for a walk with his human mom. Peace .

Does this make me look fat?

It's the winter "coat," right? Or maybe the camera angle.  :-D Peace .

Finally finishing up with Proctor House

Image
Weeks later...okay, it's only two weeks. Feels longer! Here are many of the snapshots taken at Proctor House in Brighton, with Robin (who was more timely posting hers). I should note that the museum is open only during the summer, and it was Robin who went in to ask the woman selling theatre tickets if we could just step in. This older lady let us roam the entire house at will, and we made sure to leave donations in the box in thanks. Construction on the house began around 1853, though there were subsequent modifications, additions, etc., as was typical. While I do love to explore old homes like this, I have no desire to be living in that era, without our modern conveniences. I have no desire to live in a house with the wallpaper of the time, either!   The entire dinner set was hand-painted by either a daughter or sister in the family. Two thoughts came to my mind when the woman who let us explore told us this: 1) The woman was very talented and patient and 2) Ther...
