Today is a day of very mixed emotions for Hil  and me…

My son and his wife are moving across country to Toledo, Ohio.  That’s about 2,400 miles away…

They’ve been looking around the country for employment opportunities somewhere where they’ll be able to afford to by a house – preferably with a few acres around it.

Now, realistically, Toledo (being a city) doesn’t meet the second qualification, but the housing is VERY affordable (by California standards).

Anyway, while we are feeling a sense of disbelief and loss, we are also hopeful for them in this new and exciting opportunity / adventure.  It is always hard for parents when we feel our children are just a little too far way for us to be of ready assistance to them.  But, that’s what “cutting the strings” and “leaving the nest” are all about.  LoL

Of course, the sad part is there is now a great probability we’ll only be seeing them a few times in the last decade or two remaining of our own lives.

I can’t help thinking of the song:  “Cat’s In The Cradle“…

And, of course, I realize the lyrics are nowhere near about expressing our specific family situation, but they do capture the sense of separation many a parent feels when their children are all grown up and time is slipping away.

When you coming home, son?
I don’t know when
But we’ll get together then, dad
We’re gonna have a good time then…

Those who raise questions about the God hypothesis and the soul hypothesis are by no means all atheists.  An atheist is someone who is certain that God does not exist, someone who has compelling evidence against the existence of God.  I know of no such compelling evidence.  Because God can be relegated to remote times and places and to ultimate causes, we would have to know a great deal more about the universe than we do to be sure that no such God exists.  To be certain of the existence of God and to be certain of the nonexistence of God seem to me to be the confident extremes in a subject so riddled with doubt and uncertainty as to inspire very little confidence indeed.
