Before we set our hearts too much on anything, let us examine how happy are those who already possess it.

[In 2020, the GOP ran a Presidential candidate with NO platform of policies.  NONE!  Their “platform” (as such) was re-elect Trump, keep power in both chambers of Congress and take over as many State governments as possible based on the “promise” to make America great again without ever stating how we would know when America was great again, defining what had to happen to make America great or specifying who they wanted to make America great for.  Clearly the “promise” wasn’t meant for the average American worker / citizen.
I’m just wondering if the GOP is still happy #DonTheCon won the White House in 2016.  If he hadn’t, the current moral collapse of their Party, might have taken another generation or two.  As it is, the hypocrisy, turpitude and just plain greed of Republican politicians are front and center for anyone who is willing to see.  What will happen to the GOP if Trump wins the Republican nomination?  What will happen to the United States and our system of government if he should happen to win?
We are well past the time when honest conservatives should stand up and be counted as Americans FIRST and Trump Supporters – Never Again!!  The window to save the Republican Party is rapidly closing.  America needs two vibrant Parties competing on the basis of ideas / policies and compromising to get the best of both worlds (a progressive society with a conservative brake being applied appropriately).    —    kmab]

Every action of ours must be accompanied by a reflection to orient it, to order it, to make it coherent, so that it does not lapse into a sterile and superficial activism.

I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection.  ’Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.
    —    Thomas Paine
[While I agree with Paine – in general – on the admirable traits required to accomplish great things.  I am equally reminded of the saying (I made up based on the title of a Star Trek – Original Series episode): “there is no truth in beauty, although there is a beauty in truth“.    Anyway, I would caution readers the above quote is equally valid for many mass murderers and terrorists – maybe even more so.     —    kmab]

Life is a ticklish business.  I have resolved to spend it in reflecting upon it.

By three methods we may learn wisdom:  First, by reflection, which is noblest;  Second, by imitation, which is easiest;  and Third by experience, which is the bitterest.
