Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Colorado undermines democracy in the name of democracy.  It was a 4-3 decision by the state Supreme Court it should be remembered. Also remember that all 4 justices who voted for this are Democratic appointees and Ivy League grads.

- Colorado Supreme Court orders Jack Phillips bake cake to celebrate Trump ruling

- Jonathan Turley on the Colorado Supreme Court's decision. Today's offering is pretty top heavy with this issue.

- Dan Wetzel on is Florida State leaving the ACC? A little football for palate cleansing.

More stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- The rising importance of older workers. Good news - many jobs are shifting to older workers. (HT Wally Bock)

- And I thought the Babylon Bee was supposed to be satire.

- Does "Made in America" still matter to consumers? Still say that Sears missed a giant opportunity by not going with a 100% Made in the USA approach.

Morgan Housel on Rich and Anonymous. So true - well worth the read. Also one of my favorite Naval Ravikant quotes.

Quotes for Today

Some quotes I hope may resonate with you.

"Generations of men establish a growing mastery over the earth, but are destined to become fossils in its soil." - Will and Ariel Durant

"Only six people in the Galaxy knew that the job of the Galactic President was not to wield power but to attract attention away from it." - Douglas Adams

"Reading science, math, and philosophy one hour per day will likely put you in the upper echelon of human success within seven years." - Naval Ravikant

"Historians now claim Hitler was just kidding when he chanted 'We're coming for the Jews.'" - Babylon Bee

Elon Musk on the National Debt

It is said that many a truth is said in jest, but here it looks like a truth was spoken Tweeted in response to a jest.

"True national debt, including unfunded entitlements, is at least $60 trillion - roughly three time the size of the entire US economy. Something has to give." - Elon Musk

That Tweet was in response to this article in the Babylon Bee - Joe Biden to Go Double or Nothing on National Debt by Betting $30 Trillion on the Bengals. So was Elon speaking out so people have a better awareness of the horrific true size of the national debt? Or was he telling Biden he needs to bet so much more for a true double or nothing?

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- The Earth could be heading towards a "mini-ice age"as the Sun enters a decades long Grand Solar Minimum. The scientists saying the Earth is warming must be pissed at this news.

- How awesome would this be if it were true!

- Spotify is buying Bill Simmons The Ringer.

- Hollywood icon Kirk Douglas passes away aged 103. I did not know that Douglas hired Stanley Kubrick to direct Spartacus. If the Golden Age of Hollywood was the 1940's and 50's then Kirk Douglas is the last of that breed. If it also includes the 60's then Sean Connery and Clint Eastwood are still kicking.

- Steven Pressfield: Resistance = Fear

- Thomas Mann's American Democracy Lecture Tour. A bit of history that I was unaware of. Agree wholeheartedly with the idea that our democracy and history need to be cared for but I find it ironic that the author states "It is a lesson we are in dire need of today as we watch democracy slip away in Trump's America." Whereas those on the right would argue "It is a lesson we are in dire need of today as we watch democracy slip away as the Democratic party embraces socialism." Maybe the fears of both sides can help protect and defend the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and our historic legacy. (HT The Happy Curmudgeon)

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Steven Pressfield "Our Michael Moment"

- All future satellites should be required to have this tether technology. And any company with decommissioned satellites should be required to attach this technology to their old satellites before new satellites can be launched.

- Heh Heh

- Interesting long read on Saudi Arabia's potential involvement in 9/11. (Although keep in mind that most of the information is via investigators working for families who are suing the Saudis.)

- Heh Heh - Scholars now believe Jesus spent time with prostitutes, tax collectors just to avoid hanging out with loathsome journalists

- Understanding the R0 number and what it means for the spread of outbreaks like coronavirus.

- Rolls-Royce plans to build up to 15 mini nuclear reactors in Britain. In a decade or so will Rolls-Royce be known as more of a power company than a car company? Also interesting nugget in story is that China has more nuclear plants planned that all the Western world combined. That could greatly impact their carbon footprint.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Maybe, just maybe, and hear me out here - maybe the reason no shots were fired at the Virginia Second Amendment Rights protests is maybe because legally owning a gun isn't a sign of mental illness. It's like maybe, just maybe, the image of crazy, bitter, clingers is just a media creation. Gun Grabbing Democrats on the other hand - yeah that's very real... "The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom." - Isaac Asimov... Heh Heh - too funny... Out of curiosity has Kate Upton commented on the Astros cheating yet? I mean she comments on everything else it seems. And her being married to Astros ace Justin Verlander would make this a subject she might know something about... If I were a player in the Super Bowl I'd answer every question on media day with "Hodor" and nothing but "Hodor." And I'd be the star of the day... Thank God he's out of Boston. Seriously thank God... The Babylon Bee is on a roll!... If CNN just replaced their "news" coverage with a live camera showing a banana taped to a wall - would their ratings improve? I think we all know the answer to that...
