Wife of Moses

Book idea: do a first person book of what it was like to be the wife of Moses. We know much about Moses but almost zip about his wife Zipporah. We know that she was the daughter of Jethro, the mother of Moses' two sons Gershom and Eliezer, and that her name means bird but other than that - a clean slate.

The book could be the same genre as Grendel by John Gardner or Layer Cake by JJ Connolly. Use the same storytelling techniques but remain historically correct. The plot basically writes itself.

More Linky Links

More some stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Steven Pressfield on Children in the Wilderness. Make sure your kids know all about Moses. People are starting to forget.

- Noah Smith on when trying to "shape" AI innovation to protect workers is a bad idea. Well worth your time.

- The Diversity Myth by Peter Thiel. Again worth your time. Some of my favorite writers today.

- Brazil at Silicon Valley. We should be working to get closer to Brazil (and India).

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

If it was called the Narcissism of Small Differences instead of Facebook - how many people would use it? Which name is actually a more accurate description of the "service?"... The wife of Moses was Zipporah. It is amazing how lost to history she has become. We really know zip about Zipporah... If you're looking for something to watch - really liked the prison flick Shot Caller with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie Lannister from Game of Thrones). The movie's on Neflix... Polish Lobsters would be a good name for a band... Not really into New Year's resolutions but what I do instead is a form of behavior modification. I had found myself drinking too much so I'm giving up alcohol for the month of January. For February I will be taking the month off from social media (Twitter and Instagram). And in March I'll be giving up coffee. I'll decide on what other behavior modifications I want to do from there...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Personally I don't think I'm very effected by a government shutdown. I kind of like the idea... This is awesome!... I'm also not a military family or someone living on a fixed income dependent on a government check. Seems vastly unfair to be using these folks as pawns in political disputes. The people doing so should be ashamed. Should be but they won't feel any shame at all... The wife of Moses was Zipporah. It is amazing how lost to history she has become. We really know zip about Zipporah... Today's word of the day is "Ambit" meaning circumference, boundary, or sphere of influence. It's also the root of the word "ambition"... Patriots coach Matt Patricia on new endorsement deal with Gillette, "I use razors all the time. Use your imagination."... This is what Matt Patricia looks like without a beard...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

My favorite stat from the weekend - Tom Brady is about to go to his 9th AFC Championship game meanwhile Peyton Manning now has 9 one-and-done playoff appearances... Lazy or awesome?!?!... It is rumored that the Denver Broncos may want to part ways with head coach John Fox. If true they should look for a top offensive coach to take his place. You know - someone like Josh McDaniels... Heh heh... The wife of Moses was Zipporah. It's amazing how lost to history she has become. We really know zip about Zipporah... Heh heh... If they had called it an iSegway instead of just Segway - would everyone own one by now?... Ratio wise - I wonder if the distance between stars is much different than the difference in distance between atoms... Peyton Manning lines up another commercial opportunity...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

The top Cleveland Indians prospects according to Baseball America. I find it interesting that they project Nick Hagadone to be their #1 starter and Justin Masterson to be their #3 starter in 2013. Those are the two players the Indians got from the Red Sox for Victor Martinez... You do so much better at poker if you stop doing things you know to be stupid. The same is true with life. Such a simple observation that could have such a profound impact on your life if you took it to heart... Heh heh - waaaaiiiitttt!!!!.... The beer can and Elvis were both introduced to the world 75-years ago. Coincidence or conclusive proof of aliens in our midst?... Wow - woman plays kazoo with her hoo-haa - yes her hoo-haaa... The wife of Moses was named Zipporah. It's kinda amazing how lost in history she has become. People literally know zip about Zipporah... Drew Brees writes eloquently about NFL vs. American Needle Supreme Court case in Washington Post. Nicely done. That Purdue education did not go to waste... Heh heh - great quote from Ian O'Connor "It would be pretty cool if Mark Sanchez said he didn't think Pete Carroll was ready to make the jump back to the NFL." Heard ESPN use it but Ian had it first... Tweet of the Day from @DrZibbs "If you asked someone from the #jerseyshore to point out a douchebag..who would they point to? Seriously"... Heh heh - sleep talking man... Who knew? Richard Nixon and Otis Nixon shared the same birthday...
