Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.
What if Harambe was some sort of secret sentinel guarding the Gates of Hell and his death in 2016 let loose all the ills we are experiencing now? Thanks a lot Cincinnati!... Interesting - is the periodic table upside down?... Is it me or does it seem like we could be heading for a real-life enactment of Assault on Precinct 13 in the near future... Back half a dozen years ago or so I really wanted the Red Sox to sign Torii Hunter instead of Shane Victorino. Now I understand why this was never meant to be. And the Red Sox admit that Torii Hunter was not wrong to feel the way he did about Boston. Makes me sad... Did you know that Bernie Ebbers, the Worldcom/MCI fraudster, died in February? Just a month after being released from prison. I somehow missed that news... And did you know that a sequel to The Passion of the Christ is supposed to be released in 2021? The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection. James Caviezel is scheduled to reprise his role as the Son of God....

The Elements Song by Tom Lehrer
A blast from the past in honor of the Periodic Table's 150th anniversary.
Hat tip to Tom for the suggestion.

Happy 150th Birthday to the Periodic Table
Today marks the 150th "birthday" of Dmitri Mendeleev's periodic table. I would put this "discovery" on par with Newton's "discovery" of gravity or Einstein's Theory of Relativity.

The Periodic Table Turns 150
This year will mark the 150th anniversary of Dmitri Mendeleev's creation of the Periodic Table (March 6th to be exact).
I, personally, put this "discovery" on par with Newton's "discovery" of gravity or Einstein's Theory of Relativity. That's how important I think the creation of the Periodic Table has been to the furtherment of science and our understanding of the world.
Happy Sesquicentennial Periodic Table!

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.
- Illustrated Periodic Table shows how we regularly interact with each element. I still say the Periodic Table is one of science's great achievements.
- Saddened to hear this news about Tiny Archibald.
- If true this is really disappointing on the part of NOAA. Eroding trust in science and government at the same time.
- Who knew?
- Interesting look at how 40-years ago Israel basically changed from being a socialist nation to a capitalist one and how that change has made all the difference.
- One of the most persuasive arguments I ever read FOR taking PED's. Sadly the author Andrew Tilin recently died when he was hit by a car while biking.
- National Geographic's Photo of the Year.

- Heh heh
- Interesting - Chinese saline soil rice experiment a success
- Behind the scenes look at Tennessee's search for their new football coach (I laughed way too hard at this)
- The hard as hell, beautiful life of a cowboy (told in stunning photographs)
- Conor McGregor has taken on MMA fighters, boxers and now - the Irish Mafia?
- I actually want this poster

Today marks the 147th "birthday" of Dmitri Mendeleev's periodic table. I would put this "discovery" on par with Newton's "discovery" of gravity or Einstein's Theory of Relativity.

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.
- I wonder what the teams were and what the stakes were per hole. What a foresome!
- Heh heh - soldiers playing Quiddich
- Interesting look at the periodic table (which I consider perhaps the greatest single scientific achievement in history)
- Well done Upper Deck - well done!
- An oral history of the vastly under-rated NewsRadio
- Very cool - an interactive journey to the center of the Earth

Stuff I found interesting or amusing.
- Wow - Boston at night under a cover of fog from space.
- Cool words - 7 common words and their much lesser known relatives
- Big Hemingway fan - very interesting that the six word story tale about Hemingway turns out to be made up
- Best science books of 2012
- Pee Wee Herman biking skin-suit - I would so wear this to the movie theater
- Never thought about this because I just assumed it would be too dangerous - how long could you safely swim in a spent nuclear fuel pool?
- The Periodic Table of Twitter
- Another reason not to outlaw guns
