WKRP in Cincinnati and Politics
All I ever needed to know about politics I learned from WKRP in Cincinnati. The episode I'm thinking of is about Mr. Carlson (Gordon Jump) running for city council. The episode also included Les Nessman (Richard Sanders) explaining the fine art of answering a debate question:
LES: The secret is to appear to answer all the questions when in truth it's all mumbo-jumbo. Here, let me show you. Herb, ask me this question.Sound familiar?
[Les hands herb a card with a question written on it.]
HERB: Surely. "Mr. Candidate, what is your energy program?"
LES: Right now, I'm devoting a great deal of time and study to that problem. And I intend to issue a position paper on that. A position that is at once simple, yet complex, flexible, and above all else, fair to every American.

- The Daily Coach on the Art of Listening.
- From the archive: An oral history of the famous WKRP turkey drop episode. That time of year again.
- Glenn Reynold's on why voter ID should be top priority for new administration. Grew up on stories of James Michael Curley as Mayor of Boston getting his machine to have supporters to vote multiple times in elections to get "his people" elected. Seemed amusing at the time but now I understand why voter ID is so important.
- Republicans name John Thune as new Senate Majority leader. Simple explanation is that it's a secret ballot vote and it's tough to get people to vote against their own self interest.

An Oral History of WKRP's Classic Turkey Drop Episode
One of the most iconic episodes in TV history. Makes for good Thanksgiving reading. "As God as my witness I thought turkey's could fly."

Flotsam and Jetsam
Out of curiosity - will the Democrats be asking families to talk about healthcare at the Thanksgiving dinner table this year?... And speaking of Thanksgiving - an oral history of the infamous WKRP turkey drop episode... Even with all my success - I'm still just Chris from the Hood... FootballReference.com has one of Tom Brady's nicknames as "The Pharaoh". Nobody calls him that. I think someone on the site's staff just randomly adds a ridiculous nickname to see if anyone notices... You have to think that the reason President Obama did not give Joe Biden his endorsement was because he knew his buddy Deval Patrick was going to run. Now it seems like Obama's endorsement will be going to waste... The Monarch butterfly egg more beautiful than a Faberge Egg... Instead of saying "You're welcome" I'm going to try saying "Epstein didn't kill himself" instead. Will be interesting to see if I get any reactions...

- Good advice. I'd add that you should also try to minimize your monthly expenses so there are fewer financial pressures.
- Agreed - Comey's book tour is a colossal mistake
- Also true.
- Rhode Island on cusp of passing asinine vaping law. Raising taxes like this always leads to less revenue not more.
- Yes! Yes! And Yes! Along with Carly Simon one of my original crushes.
- And speaking of China - Trump's not launching a trade war with China. He's doing something bigger.
- More good advice.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Flotsam and Jetsam
A lot of new movies and shows coming to Netflix in November. And a lot of movies and shows are being taken out of the library including favorites Serenity and Broadcast News. Plan your day accordingly... Fan favorite Kevin Youkilis has decided to retire. The Greek God of Walks saw 292 3-0 counts in his career (according to MLB Stats) and never swung at a single one of those pitches... 36-years ago yesterday the single greatest holiday episode of any show ever aired. As God as my witness I thought turkeys could fly... I have to wonder if Youkilis will spend part of his retirement taking the wife to follow brother-in-law Tom Brady's games on the road. My mind can easily picture Youkilis in a Winnebago... Heh heh - "Draw me like one of your French girls"... Can't stop thinking that in the next Avengers movie they are in effect fighting the Fox Sports robot... Very interesting story - the gentleman thief of Venice... The Steelers are retiring Mean Joe Greene's number this Sunday. How is it possible his number hasn't been retired already?... Speaking of Kevin Youkilis' brother-in-law, last Sunday Brady accomplished something only one QB in NFL history had previously accomplished. Brady had 85 percent completions (30-35), over 350 yards passing and 5 TD's with no INT's. The only other QB to accomplish this? Tom Brady... Interesting - India holds more gold than the governments of the US, Germany and Switzerland combined...

- To give thanks - you must first be grateful. There's no reason you can't be grateful every day of the year.
- Good deal - All 5 Game of Thrones books for Amazon Kindle for just $10. I paid full price for them and would take advantage of this deal if I didn't already have the e-books.

Stuff I found interesting and thought I'd share.
- Laurie Fine's nephew tells CNN that Bobby Davis "tampered with" tape released over the weekend. I have to admit that elsewhere I had mentioned that the Bobby Davis tapes were making me think of the movie Primary Colors.
- Funny because it's true. As a bonus - I bet the woman on the right likes bacon.
- Very interesting. So who is the real number two? Based on the evidence presented I did not pick Alabama.
- Tobey Macguire knows when to fold em. Pays $80k to settle out of poker lawsuit.

The Sexy Pilgrim is silly but I love it. You're welcome!
Other great videos for Thanksgiving:
- As God as my witness - I thought turkeys could fly. Perhaps the funniest 6:44 in TV history.
- President Bartlet on the Butterball Hotline
When Gabe Kaplan was a kid – his older sister was embarrassed about becoming a young woman. She used to have the young Kaplan go into the drug store to buy her "sanitary napkins". Gabe was curious and asked his sister just what these things were.
“Oh, they’re special occasion napkins,” she would reply.
This explanation was enough for Kaplan and he didn’t give it another thought.
Then one Thanksgiving morning – young Gabe was left alone at home while his parents and older sister drove to the airport to pick up his uncle. Gabe was left with the job of setting the table for Thanksgiving. Then it occurred to him, “what could be more of a special occasion than Thanksgiving?”
Needless to say – his parents were confused, his sister was very embarrassed but his uncle couldn’t stop laughing when they came home and saw the creative way young Gabe had set the table for Thanksgiving.
