More Linky Links

More stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- The NBA has a 3-point infestation problem.

- Cool - The greatest pool player in history just wanted to hustle.

- Germany seeks to tax income of US soldiers based there. The solution to this is easy - either move those soldiers to friendlier locations or bring them home. Then we can watch as the Germans complain about us moving away.

- Enjoy! $100 million yacht owned by Capri Sun billionaire crashes into Caribbean Yacht Club. Reminder "schadenfreude" is a German word. On a related note. (HT Newmark's Door

Top 5 - People from History I'd Like to Play Pool With

Here's the Top 5 historical figures I'd like to play pool with:

1. Martin Luther King Jr. - ever since I've seen the photo of MLK shooting pool I've wondered what it would have been like to play with him.
2. Willie Mosconi - who wouldn't like to play with the greatest pool player of all-time? Just let me break every once in a while and I'd be happy
3. Jackie Gleason - The stories, the drinking and the laughs would be epic with the "Great One".
4. Paul Newman - just seemed like such a genuine guy
5. Joe Rogan - comedian, MMA analyst and podcaster. Also said to be a big-time pool enthusiast.

This is my list and it assumes people like Jesus, Benjamin Franklin and Einstein didn't play pool.

Snooker and Ronnie O'Sullivan

Fascinating look at both the sport of snooker and of it's most interesting player Ronnie O'Sullivan.

Now I'm not really familiar with snooker but I really do enjoy playing pool. Maybe that's why the article was so appealing. Or maybe it was Ronnie O'Sullivan who to me seems a cross between Tiger Woods and Mike Tyson. Prodigies who dominated their sports but yet still seemed unfulfilled  to their potentials because of personal issues and demons.

Whatever it was - I found the article fascinating. And now I want to learn more about Ronnie O'Sullivan. And about snooker.

Origin of the Poolroom

Back in the day before state run lotteries - local bookies would run numbers games and these tickets for the "pool" were often sold in a "poolroom". The numbers would be drawn once or twice a day and in order to fill the time between drawings - the operators at many locations put in billiards tables. Billiards was changed or Americanized by adding pockets and creating the game pocket billiards which we now know simply as pool.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Tough to pick a team to root for between the four remaining MLB teams but kind of leaning towards the Orioles just because of the great job Dan Duquette has done. It should be remembered that he only got the job because other candidates deemed it too radioactive... Pool and beer help you live longer! Later today I'm going to work on extending my life expectancy!...  Would love to see an episode of Louie where Louis CK goes for a picnic in the park with his kids and runs into the missing Russian from The Sopranos...  39-years ago tonight SNL first took to the air. The original thought was to have Albert Brooks as the permanent host... For proper elocution a person must have consistent vowel movements... This website is awesome! I will buy all my Christmas gifts there!... Block Me Amedaeus would be a great name for a fantasy football team...  Fantastic article on the one of a kind Bob Ryan... Always remember that the word "listen" contains the same letters as the word "silent". To truly listen you should be silent... Big as a hat! Great joke from Big Stupid Tommy... The Obama Drone artist seems like a great guy...

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Muhammad Ali and Andre the Giant meet and compare hand sizes. It makes you wonder if anyone could have stood up to Andre in the boxing ring. Just one solid blow from his hands would have ended most fights.

- Cool pool trick shots

- Formula E racing looks cool but not hearing the roar of the engine seems strange. Also not sure if I like the idea of having to switch cars when the batteries run low.

- Heh heh - epilepsy my cock

- Cool - soft robotic exosuits - faster please!

- Hannah Storm - what does the NFL stand for?

- The men with the red bandannas beat the USC Trojans last night. They "out-desired them."
