5.20.2011

Jeffrey and Olivia were married last Friday. The day was perfect from beginning to end.

The day began with a brunch. I hosted about 100 family members of the bride and groom at my home. We had a crepe bar with a variety of fillings, toppings, and sauces. I also served sliced ham, muffins and cinnamon rolls, and a slushy citrus punch. The weather was perfect so I set up tables and chairs outside. Everyone seemed to enjoy visiting with one another and it was a nice start to the day.

Jeffrey and Olivia were married for time and eternity in the Mesa Arizona LDS temple mid afternoon. It was the perfect time of day...nothing felt rushed. The ceremony was beautiful, special, and touching. There were many tears shed as we witnessed the ceremony. These two are crazy about one another and it was obvious. I'm so grateful they found one another...they are so well matched.

Here they are coming out of the temple as Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Benson. Don't they look dashing? Seriously, they could have stepped out of a fashion magazine.

The day ended with a wonderful garden reception that evening held in my brother's back yard. My sister-in-law is a wedding genius and knows how to put special touches on everything. Here's a few pictures of the evening:

the guest book sign in

this picture just cracked me up...love their feet!

look at this cute bouquet. Debie made it (and can make one for your wedding too).

a fun little touch...something to look at while waiting in line to greet the happy couple

And since I made such a big fuss about what I was wearing, I have to post a picture of my dress. I like to think I looked better than this...I got a lot of compliments on the dress, but this picture doesn't look too flattering.

Great couple! Great Day! Great Joy! These are the times a mother lives for.

This One's for YOU

I got an e-mail from my sister yesterday. This is what it said:

"One of my friends has been bed bound for a while and her entertainment of choice has been blogs. 'I don't know why I like your sister so much. Tell her she needs to blog more, though. I wouldn't even care if it was about a recent pedicure' "

So to Cindy's bed bound friend (whoever you are) ... This one's for you. Enjoy!

Katie sent me a recipe and told me it was divine. She told me I would need to make a double batch because I would eat it by the spoonful. She said I would use a 2:1 ratio of salsa to quesadilla. She was right. So rather than keep this little secret to ourselves, I'm sharing it with all of my BFF's

Corn Salsa
2 ears of corn
1 large tomato diced
2 T minced onion
a handful of fresh cilantro
1/2 of a lime ( or a whole one...whatever!)
1 1/2 T vinegar
1 tsp sea salt
black pepper
1-2 T sugar
1 jalapeño chopped

steam corn for a few minutes then cut it off the cob (actually, i just cut it off the cob and ate it raw). Dump everything into a bowl and mix it up. Add Jalapeño a little at a time...sometimes those babies are hot!

I made me a quesadilla with those tortillas you buy uncooked and cook them yourself at home. I made it a little crispy as I was cooking it then piled on the salsa. It was so good, I had to make me another one. Trust me, you're going to want to try it!

finished product

More than a year ago, I picked up a cute dresser at the Thrift Store for only $15.00 It was well built, had dove tail joints in the drawers, and was in good shape but outdated. I snatched it right up but it's been sitting in my workshop for a very long time. I have been hunting through all of my photos for the before pictures but it must have been deleted. But just imagine a yellow dresser with gold trim and ugly handles.

Anyway, I decided to spruce it up a bit for the happy couple (Jeff and Olivia). Here is the finished product:
If it had been for me, I probably would have painted it white but this color suited them. I fell in love with this grey color and it make me want to paint something this color for my house...too bad it matches NOTHING I own!

It's amazing what some paint and some new drawer handles can do to update a piece of furniture. For fun, I bought some bright wrapping paper and used mod podge to line the drawers.

One more project I can check off my list.
