Why does OneDrive no longer show a Bing Map window for photos with EXIF data?

The facility to view the exact location on a Bing Map was really useful, especially for older people, who have more photos and (for many) a poorer memory.) Maybe younger programmers didn't realise that they'd make life more difficult for older people? (Let's hope it wasn't because they didn't vare!)

I have many photos taken in remote places asround the world. As I'm too old to go to such places now, I frequently scanned through my Memories until various pictures would caught my attention and I'd think, "Where was that, again?" or "Which mountain corrie was that in?" Now, all that is lost to me, so thanks for that.

I cannot think of any reason why the development team would somehow think that users would prefer to be rid of this facility.

The ability to view Bing Maps for photos with EXIF data in OneDrive has been deprecated. This change is part of a broader trend where certain features are being phased out in favor of more modern solutions or due to advancements in technology that have rendered some features less necessary. The specific reasons for this decision have not been detailed, but it reflects a shift in how Microsoft is managing its services and features.

For users who relied on this functionality, it can indeed be frustrating, especially for those who enjoyed reminiscing about their travels through the geographical context provided by Bing Maps. Unfortunately, there is no current alternative offered by OneDrive for this specific feature.
