"Couldn't update to Windows 8.1 - 0xC1900101 - 0x40017"

I have downloaded the Windows 8.1 update from the store but cannot get it to install. Each time I try, I get to the point where it is "getting my devices ready", then the PC restarts to a blue screen with error message. It then tries to recover the installation, fails, then restores Windows 8. When the system boots up after this, I get a message saying:

"Couldn't update to Windows 8.1

Sorry, we couldn't complete the update to Windows 8.1. We've restored your previous version of Windows to this PC.

0xC1900101 - 0x40017"

There is n o explanation as to why the update could be completed. Any ideas how to resolve this?

    There's one solution to this problem I've been facing for so long and it's really easy. Just try to refresh your pc and then try to reinstall the 8.1 update. It should work. Worked for me at least. Try it and if it works, lemme know!!!

    What do you think....should we start a whole new thread about not being able

    to upgrade to Windows 10??  It is just 10 days from now and there are sure to

    be trouble.....plus nobody has to worry about 8.1 anymore....ROFLOL.

    Hey Microsoft.  Isn't it about time you modify the upgrade process to display and/or record to the update logs ("panther") the specific cause of the problem when windows 8.1 upgrade fails??

    i HAVE DONE ALL THE HOOP JUMPING TO GET THIS SOFTWARE TO WORK AND STILL NOT WORKING. AND SO I SEE I'M NOT ALONE ...HERE'S AN IDEA WHY NOT YOU RE RIGHT THE SOFTWARE TO WORK INSTEAD OF  JACKING THE WHOLE COMMUNITY AROUND? AND IF YOU THINK I WILL PURCHASE ANY MORE OF YOUR PRODUCT'S FIRST I WANT A REFUND FOR THIS **** FIRST??
