Whatever It Takes

Carry on.  Keep your wits about you.  It could be worse.  One day at a time.  Stay optimistic.

Trite and banal?  Yes.  But this type of self-talk is what works for me right now.  Doing whatever it takes to stay functional in my little world is what I need to do.  Health problems.  Money problems.  Car problems.  Family problems.  Lord knows we all have them.  And my little collection of the aforementioned stuff seems to be ramping up just beyond my usual level of tolerance.

I haven’t been blogging regularly.  My intention is to get back on track and write more often.  Some things (like writing) I don’t miss until I stop doing or seeing or experiencing them and then out of nowhere, I realize, “…Hey, what the hell happened to LupusRanting?  Did she vanish?  Win the lottery?  Wind up on a milk carton?  WTF? …”

For those of you who stop by regularly, thanks for stopping by regularly.

Me and my bad attitude aren’t going anywhere.  For now.  Whatever it takes to carry on.

Great News For LupusRanting

The other day I received an email with some outstanding news.  LupusRanting was approved as a new member of the Healthcare Blogger Code of Ethics network.  Whoo Hoo!!

The Code was established in 2007 to provide bloggers and their readers with clear standards in five specific areas:

Perspective: The blog author’s perspective should be clearly established.

Confidentiality: Patient identity is respected.

Disclosure: Bloggers must clearly disclose whether they are paid to pitch products.

Reliability: Sources for information should be cited.

Courtesy: Personal attacks should not be permitted.

About the Code: The Healthcare Blogger Code of Ethics was designed in response to problems experienced by medical bloggers.  The goal of this Code is twofold:

1.  To give readers of a medical blogger a clear idea of the standards by which the blog is maintained.

2.  To give bloggers (especially anonymous ones) a clear set of guidelines they can show employers, patients, or other concerned parties as to the nature of the blogging.

“Since healthcare blogging is sometimes dealing with extremely sensitive information, it is important that these blogs maintain a high level of integrity.”

LupusRanting Turns 1 This Month

A year ago this month LupusRanting was born into the blogosphere.  It’s been a wonderful first year.

Like many people who have blogs, I love to write.  Next to singing, it’s one of my top passions in life.  I was completely flabergasted when folks began to stop by and comment on my posts.  Thank you for taking the time to read and write me.  You make my day!   For those of you who have added me to your blogroll … it has been an honor!

If I knew how to make badges, I’d present them to a number of my fellow bloggers who have always taken the time to be supportive and write words of encouragement and just crazy nice stuff.  Here’s to (in no particular order) Teeni, Pamajama, Speedcat, TGFTG, Joan,  Allison and Trisha … just to name a few. You never fail to make me laugh!

To all the spammers who never get through Askimet, just give it up.  You are so locked out!

To my family and friends … notably Lisa and Judy … you are the peanut butter to my jelly.  Thanks for always being there, in the real world and in my blog world too!

For all of my fellow lupies who stop by and visit this site, know that your stories and courage inspire me to keep writing about how to cope and live well with autoimmune disease.  Stay strong and keep fighting!

A “B” Meme

B is for .....

Joan is one of my favorite people in the entire blogosphere.  Sweet, honest, and a good sport about all things meme, she tagged me  (probably because I jumped up and down and waved my arms and shouted “Pick me! I want a letter!)  So here are the rules if you want to play along.

You leave a comment on this post and I’ll assign you a letter.  You write about ten things you love that begin with your assigned letter, and post it at your place.  When people comment on your list, you give them a letter, and the chain continues on and on.


You can leave a comment and not be assigned a letter if you want.   Just let me know if you want a letter to keep this going.

At the tender age of 8 or 9, I became a Beatlemaniac. I still am.  They were (and still are) the best band ever in the history of the universe.  Am I going a little bit off the deep end with this declaration?  I don’t care. Their songs are timeless, and their talent for writing music and lyrics has never been duplicated.

Paul is cute. George is cool. Ringo is funny. John is my favorite.

#1 B = The Beatles.

#2 B= Beads. Specifically, beads to make jewelry with.  I’m not a pro at it, but thoroughly enjoy making bracelets and earrings.  Lately, it’s been a challenge doing this because of my 2 cats.  They think the jewelry stuff is their personal toy … like everything else in the house.  How dare I disrupt them chewing on wires and batting around expensive crystal beads!

#3 B= Babies. Need I say more? When I retire I want to volunteer rocking babies in the hospital nursery.  It doesn’t get any better.

#4 B= Bling. Diamonds are my birthstone.  The more I have, the better I feel. It’s a wardrobe essential, even if they’re on loan from Harry Winston for the red carpet event.

#5 B= Bitch. It’s a noun, a verb and an adjective.  How versatile!  You can say it as a 2-syllable word, as in “Bi-atch”

#6= Butterfly. No, I’m not getting all sentimental and girlie girl here.  For those of us with systemic lupus, the butterfly symbolizes the fight against lupus and hope for a cure.

#7= Broadway. As in New York’s theater district.  It’s always a thrill for me to go there.  Great upbeat energy and entertainment.

#8= Bacon. Bacon pizza.  Bacon and eggs.  BLT sandwiches. Bringing home the bacon.  Yum 🙂

#9= Best Friend. You know who you are.  😉

#10= Bed. I love my bed.  It’s soft and cozy, with lots of pillows and soft sheets.  It’s the perfect place to relax and read.  Charlie and Tig also love my bed.  Actually, they think it’s THEIR bed and they’re allowing me to use it.
