Time to Rock n Roll!

This particular scene is from 1987's Slumber Party Massacre II. The B-Raters watched it some time back so, if it intrigues you, be sure to check out our commentary on the movie.

Happy April Fool's Day, Sukkas!

The B-Raters vs. April Fool's Day
Every year around April 1st comes April Fool's Day. First noticing this in the 1980s, some enterprising filmmakers turned it into a movie - a pretty good movie, at that. Good, but not good enough for The B-Raters.

That's why we present The B-Raters vs. April Fool's Day only once per year - usually around this time. It will be available for another week or two, so there's no need to rush just yet, but be sure not to miss the annual viewing of The B-Raters vs. April Fool's Day.

Available now on The Weirding @ YouTube.

The B-Rater vs. Snowbeast

The B-Rater vs. Snowbeast
The B-Rater vs. Snowbeast
Pour yourself a nice cup of hot chocolate, pull-up a copy of Snowbeast on ye olde YouTubes, then throw your whole computer in a fire because this movie sucks

Filmed in the late 1970s on what can only be termed a "filthy hippie commune," numerous unshaven actors amble through their lines before a guy in a monkey outfit breaks a window.

Produced during the height of the Yetisploitation madness, Snowbeast is so awful, it single-handedly drove the Bigfoot population back into hiding.

They say time flies when you're having fun, so extend your holiday vacation by watching The B-Rater vs. Snowbeast.

The B-Raters vs. Silent Night, Bloody Night
Tonight is the end of The B-Raters' third season, and The War on Christmas suffers a fatal blow with The B-Rater vs. Silent Night, Bloody Night! Black Peter (I swear to God) is going house to house, slashing-up chicks or people or bad children or something. A good, old-fashioned, '80s slasher, Silent Night, Bloody Night gets going around 9:30pm Central on The Weirding @ YouTube.

The B-Raters returns January 5th, 2016, with New Years' Evil.

The B-Raters' First Annual Drinkfest

The B-Raters
The B-Raters' First Annual Drinkfest
This July 4th (Independence Day in the USA), The B-Raters will perform our first annual Drinkfest. This time, we're only doing two movies - Attack! and Die, Sister, Die! - both of which feature exclamation points in their titles. These movies are sure to suck and we're bound to be drunk as shit while watching them.

The Weirding celebrates few holidays but we do enjoy those we feature. These include July 4th, Christmas, and Halloween. This October, we'll be performing our Second Annual Halloween Movie Marathon and we're likely to take off the end-of-year holidays, so we're going to try and make our July 4th marathon a special occasion we can all enjoy.

While we sometimes drink during the show, the purpose of this particular marathon will be drinking a lot. Although we've never seen either of these flicks, we'll be playing some of our famous drinking games and just having a good, ol' time.

So be sure to join us this July 4th at a special time (TBA) for a live, unscripted, and thoroughly inebriated event!

The B-Raters vs. Cheerleader Massacre 2

The B-Raters vs. Cheerleader Massacre 2
The B-Raters vs. Cheerleader Massacre 2
This Saturday around 10pm CT, The B-Raters returns with The B-Raters vs. Cheerleader Massacre 2 on YouTube and Google Hangouts on Air. The first Cheerleader Massacre remains one of our most popular episodes and while this sequel features none of the players from the original, we aren't certain that we would know any of them if it did.

As always, we get started right around 10pm CT (if we aren't on immediately, please wait a few minutes - we usually get on shortly thereafter) and the replay is available shortly after the live event. The B-Raters is LIVE and UNSCRIPTED, so you never know what's going to be said (luckily, none of us plans on running for political office). Like most of the movies we riff, we have never seen Cheerleader Massacre 2 so we don't know what we're in store for any more than you do.

Check us out this Saturday around 10pm CT - The B-Raters vs. Cheerleader Massacre 2!

The B-Raters Are Off This Weekend

The B-Raters vs. Cheerleader Massacre 2
The B-Raters vs. Cheerleader Massacre 2
If you watch The Weirding's weekly The B-Raters vs. show, it will not be seen live this weekend. The B-Raters vs. is a live and unscripted, Internet-only (as of this writing) show on which a small panel picks apart a different B-movie every Saturday night around 10pm Central (CT). You can watch it on The Weirding's YouTube Channel or Google Hangouts.

If you have never watched The B-Raters, we have plenty of tapings of the live broadcasts available on our YouTube Channel right now. To watch, open the B-Raters video in one window and the movie itself in another, then start the movie according to The Infamous Countdown. You can also watch them side-by-side on the website by following the links provided in this handy Table of Contents.

While you are there, be sure to bookmark and follow The B-Raters blog, featuring promotional materials, write-ups on the movies, biographies of luminaries in the field, and much more.

The B-Raters vs. returns on the 18th with Cheerleader Massacre 2. If you haven't tried us, you should - we're actually funny!

GOD HATES OUR SHOW

Sorry for missing the last two weeks, youse guise. Week before last, my computer died and the backup apparently went bonkers while in storage (possibly due to humidity, heat, or something similar - no idea) but I don't know that it would have mattered anyway because it's been so long since I used it that I don't know if it would even be able to handle streaming.

Last night the entire area - over 2000 residents, according to the power company representative with whom I spoke - lost power for some four hours. Technically, this happened several hours before we were scheduled to go on, but I still say it was divine providence.

Now for the good news! I am, this very week (later today, actually, following some price-shopping), ordering a new laptop! So, even if the power should go kaput on us in the future, the show should still go on as long as the phonelines and DSL remain working.

I am also going to spend some time today scheduling the next several weeks' worth of shows and making some contacts who may hopefully be able to help us bring you a better show in the future.

As always, we would thank you for your continued support, but... come on! I mean, come on.

On Maximum Overdrive - A Review

Maximum Overdrive
Maximum Overdrive
I have a soft spot (in my heart) for Maximum Overdrive (1986) for several reasons. Stephen King was my favorite writer of the time and this was one of the first works of his I'd seen that had been adapted to film. I was very young when I saw it, so I can't remember if this movie got me into reading Stephen King or I'd already been reading him, but it was definitely one of those movies you remember. Another reason is because it was one of the first horror movies I ever truly enjoyed -- of course, Maximum Overdrive is more sci-fi/horror than pure horror.

The Earth finds itself trapped in the tail of a large comet that makes mechanical objects spring to murderous life. A small band of survivors hole-up in a diner toward the outside of town and are forced to take a stand against the attacking vehicles. Maximum Overdrive stars a young Emilio Estevez in one of the few roles in which he really acts.

There is a definite gore factor in Maximum Overdrive. There's lots of blood, gunshot wounds, and more than a few explosions. You also have to suspend your disbelief a bit more than usual, but the very premise of the movie lends to that. It is also well-made, which lends to the suspension of disbelief and overall effect -- while it is certainly a B-movie concept, it was actually a major motion picture release.

The movie stands-up really well this many years down the road, and it was not an expensive movie. It did fairly well upon release, but was toward the middle of Stephen King's movie career -- before he really took-off as a Hollywood property. He was indisputably famous, but the movie would have been better received had it been released a few years later.

Maximum Overdrive is highly recommended.
