Pictures from Thanksgiving Day

I'm standing behind my sisters, Helen on the left and Allene on the right.  We have lived only a few miles apart for all these years.  It is really nice to know you have a friend and helper in your corner any time you need to call on them!  Over the years we have had sad times, but mostly a lot of fun times, especially as we raised our children.  Allene had a son who was about ten when my son, Joe, was born.  Joe was just a little over a year old when Helen and Allene both had babies just two weeks apart.  Allene had another boy and Helen had a girl.  Then about a year and a half later, Helen had another girl!  So we had  one older boy and 2 girls and 2 boys who were really close together in age.

My granddaughter, Kym, has two years down and two to go, on her way to becoming a teacher.

Here's Jesse!  I have to sneak up on him to get a picture.  Jesse is a freshman at Mississippi State University where he is hoping to get a degree in engineering.  He is in the marching band, also.

This is my family.  My son, Joe, and his wife, Kay, are on the right.  Granddaughter Kymberly and her boy friend, D. J. are on the left and grandson, Jesse, is behind them.  It's been about seven months since Joe's accident and I think he looks great.  Of course his clothes cover all his scars except those on his hands.  He is doing well and is working 6 hours a day.  Thanks again to all you regular, faithful bloggers who prayed for Joe.  He will face many problems and handicaps the rest of his life, but he is coping with it all, by the grace of God.

Allene keeps some of her plants on the windowed in porch.

Helen is checking out Allene's greenhouse.  Here she is examining a big Bromeliad that grows in summer just hanging out on a tree- no dirt or pot.  It seemed to be happy!

When we have these annual family gatherings, we usually have lunch and also stay for supper.  This year we were missing a good many who had other obligations.  I think we counted seventeen this time.  We noticed that it looked like there was going to be a colorful sunset, so we hopped in the car to see it from the lake.  You can barely see the lake from my sister's house but there were too many trees to block our view of the sunset.  By the short time it took us to drive around there, it was not nearly as colorful, but still pretty.
I'm so thankful for all the many blessings God continues to shower on us!

Thanksgiving Blessings

A Psalm of Thanksgiving.

1 Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands! 2 Serve the LORD with gladness;  Come before His presence with singing.  3 Know that the LORD, He is God;  It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;  We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.  4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,  And into His courts with praise.   Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.  5 For the LORD is good;  His mercy is everlasting,  And His truth endures to all generations.
Psalm 100 ~ New King James Version

Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving!

Red and Blue

To jump in or not to jump in, that is the question.

The Bluebird is seriously thinking about jumping into the water.

The Cardinal said, "My Word!  I can't believe that kid is taking a bath in the water again"!

Please tell him to 'Get out of the drinking water before he splashes it all out'!

Afternoon at 'My' Lake

I can call this 'my' lake as long as nobody else is there! The trees are past their peak, but I still found lots of color.

Today, I was thankful for the beauty and solitude of this place.

A Little Color in the South

While some folks are already having snow and freezing weather, we are still enjoying the lingering Autumn/Fall here in the South.

I went to town to buy groceries this morning and carried my camera just in case I saw something pretty to photograph.  No luck in town, but when I went to pick up our mail at the Post Office in our little village, I looked out the window and saw this gorgeous orange tree.

This is on the property of the Baptist Church.  The old school building where Jeep and I went to school was a little forward and to the left of this picture.  A tennis court was built over the spot where the old school stood.

The church always looks so pretty as they have several people who do the yard work and decorate according to the season.

Our basketball court used to be where these pretty trees now stand.  We also used this area for softball games.

There was an old fashioned General Store across the road where you see the driveway of the church intersect the highway.  The school children were not allowed to go across the road, but at recess time we would take our pennies and nickels and stand on the egde of the school ground and call out the clerk's name... Miss I. V.,  Miss I. V.!   She expected this and would walk across the road with an assortment of candy and gum in a box.

I have not enhanced the color on any of these pictures.  They are just as they came out of the camera.

There was also, a tree full of red berries!

I do not know what kind of tree this is, but it is loaded with berries.    Maybe Pyracantha or some kind of  holly.  I guess it will be a good feast for the birds.

Today, I was thankful that I went to the Post Office and saw these beautiful trees.
Thank you, God for causing the trees to turn such pretty colors!

Jonah

I know you've heard the story of Jonah, but have you ever hear a little girl tell it like this?  Precious!

Little Mountain/ Jeff Busby Campground

Jeff Busby Site (at milepost 193.1 on the Natchez Trace Parkway)  The campground is named for Thomas Jefferson Busby, the U.S. Congressman from Mississippi who introduced a bill that resulted in the act approved May 21, 1934, authorizing a survey of the Old Natchez Trace. Four years later, May 18, 1938, the Natchez Trace Parkway was authorized as a unit of the National Park System. Little Mountain is one of the highest points (elevation: 603 feet) on the parkway in Mississippi. The area includes an 18-site campground, picnic tables, exhibit shelter and overlook atop Lime Mountain.

This family was walking four dogs.

There were lots of pretty yellow Hickory trees and also a good many Scalybark trees.

My sister and I enjoyed spending a good portion of Sunday afternoon walking the trails.  Here she want to show you the size of this grapevine!  It was huge and had climbed way up in the tree.

Children playing on the steps and bridge over the little spring.  We heard them playing 'Billy Goat Gruff".

This was just a tiny twig, but just look at that color!  It's not enhanced.  It looked Magenta to me.

We saw a lots of the Birch trees where people had carved their initials.

My sister on the trail that leads back out to where we started.  She likes to walk in the woods as well as I do!   It was sort of a tradition for Daddy to take his three girls walking in the woods every Fall.  These were some of the happiest times I can remember.  He would take us to places like the area where our little village of Bellefontaine used to be and pass on information that had been handed down to him about the town before it moved to it's present location. about 3/4 of a mile away.  He made these little trips with us as long as he was physically able.

There are lots of really tall trees in this park!

On a clear day......you may not see forever, but you can see water towers in the next town about 8 miles away.

Today I'm thankful that my mother and daddy instilled in me a love for nature and its Creator!
