Meet Some of Our MDA Families

  • A picture of Charlotte.

    Meet Charlotte

Charlotte is an 11-year-old living with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2C (LGMD2C). She has a deep love for nature and is always eager to learn about plants, animals, and the ecosystems they belong to, especially reptiles, with snakes being her favorite. Charlotte enjoys reading, science, math, and music, and she participates in her local children’s choir while also taking piano lessons. Music brings her a sense of peace, and she is often found singing or humming. When she grows up, Charlotte dreams of going to law school, becoming a doctor, and one day running for president, with a platform focused on funding treatments for rare diseases so every child can have hope and support.

  • A picture of Gabrielle.

    Meet Gabrielle

Gabrielle was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy Type 2 (SMA) at just one year old. Now 22, she is a resilient advocate who has transformed her lived experience into leadership and purpose. Gabrielle earned a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Music and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with the goal of opening her own clinic to support underrepresented communities. MDA has been a constant source of support throughout her journey, from care centers to Summer Camp, where she found confidence, community, and experiences that helped shape the tenacious person she is today.

  • A picture of Josh and Holly.

    Meet Josh & Holly

Siblings Josh and Holly are passionate advocates living with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy (LGMD), each using their voices and talents to make a difference. Josh spends much of his time volunteering in his community, working with organizations to make golf more accessible for people with disabilities, and pursuing his dream of working in sports, with the goal of one day becoming a Milwaukee Brewers announcer. A devoted sports fan, he hopes to visit every MLB stadium and has already been to six. Holly enjoys gardening, cooking, board games, and working the coffee cart at her high school, and has developed a love for theater and musicals. She also spreads awareness in creative ways, including painting and placing lime green rocks across Wisconsin for LGMD Awareness Day. While living with LGMD presents challenges for both of them, Josh and Holly meet those challenges with determination and resilience. Together, they have traveled to Washington, D.C. to advocate for individuals living with LGMD and other neuromuscular diseases, and they proudly support MDA for the hope, community, and progress toward a cure made possible through research and care.

MDA provides participants with all campaign supplies, including paper pinups and support material, to help them collect donations from customers and ensure a successful MDA Shamrocks Retail campaign. For further details, please contact shamrocks@mdausa.org.
