GainForest, in collaboration with Project Ark, creates Dynamic NFT, a new type of non-fungible token. This novel digital asset has been designed to reflect the ever-changing forest and its natural habitat while funding the preservation and conservation of both. The project will be the first of its kind, creating more connection and value for both the asset holders and the forestry we strive to preserve and regenerate.

What are Dynamic NFTs?

Dynamic NFTs are a new breed of digital assets that represent conservation specific to an area and aim at reversing high deforestation rates. They change their meta-data, in our case the digital representation of the forest, based on outside conditions. The use-case is to maintain a healthy piece of forest. At the beginning, after purchasing, the NFT holder can see a forest which is in good condition. Ideally it stays like this but it can also degrade in case the conditions on the ground change, such as deforestation happening in the area.

The data is being collected through a set of satellite images, with periodic oversight by drones that survey the area closer to the ground. The data is then collected and uploaded on chain, which based on certain parameters will alter the image of the NFT.

Why Dynamic NFTs?

With the world of NFTs being full of copycats, rug pulls and very little utility attached, there is a constant need for innovation and actual use cases of the technology. The combination of blockchain assets, along with modern monitoring technologies allow a closer connection between the experience of holding an NFT and real world impact.

This first collection of Dynamic NFTs aims to revert deforestation at the south edge of the Defensores del Chaco National Park. The project has been launched on a plot of 1,000 hectares near Fortin Madrejon in Paraguay. Further projects in Latin American and South East Asia are in the pipeline for 2022.

GainForest presented their solution at the Sustainability Blockchain Summit organized by Filecoin.The summit, which took place in Paris, brought together actors from the ReFi (Regenerative Finance) space ranging from carbon reduction projects and on-chain solutions to United Nations representatives.

The presentation has been met with a lot of enthusiasm.he highlight has been the changing state of the Dynamic NFT as well as the appearance of a capybara from one of the wildlife cameras installed at the foot of the Defensores del Chaco National Park in Paraguay.

The Redemption Art Party at Venice Beach, California’s Budman Studio on Wednesday, April 20 exceeded all expectations. Featuring content by creators from multiple disciplines, the ImpactNFT Alliance seized an opportunity to show the Southern California scene what creating impact can mean.

Through weeks of planning, distributing invitations, selling tickets, booking the musical act, and striking the right balance of art, music, and crypto, the coordinating team rose to the occasion and put on a fantastic event. The main goal of the Art Party was to raise money for Save The Artist Foundation, helmed by Micah Page and her husband and fine artist, Chacasso. Save The Artists Foundation was a natural partner for the ImpactNFT Alliance, as our mission to make social and environmental impact through Web3 and NFTs aligned with their efforts to help underprivileged artists achieve their dreams.

Also present at the event was Good Work DAO, a community based in Venice, California made up of influencers, creators, Web3 artists, and entrepreneurs seeking to be a force for good in the world led by tech entrepreneur and community builder Jesse Engle. His most noteworthy tech startup was CoTweet — the first tool brands used to manage Twitter — which was first acquired by ExactTarget in 2010 and later by Salesforce.

Art Party attendees included filmmaker Komodo Kanjiro, actor Josh Duhon (Hong Kong Love Story), ZombieCupcakes NFT’s Brett and Stacy Wang, and local Venice music legend Mofayas — who created his own NFT to help children access music school — as well as crypto and Web3 enthusiast and event organiser Jon Heckler and painters Chance Cooper and Carlo Valentino — the former exhibiting his finished work and the latter painting live to a musical performance by a local DJ.

Project Ark and ImpactNFT Alliance displayed a video tailor-made for this occasion, packed full of Project Ark’s Genesis Drop NFT artwork and accompanying music, and featuring pieces from Ark’s soon-to-be-released flagship NFT collection, the Arkanauts.

Midway through the event, primary organiser Jon Heckler took the mic and gathered the crowd in the main area, officially welcoming everyone and spotlighting the featured projects and the people involved in and responsible for them.

Among those introduced was party co-organizer and Project Ark representative Rasko Relic, who gave a short speech and presented the evening’s program. About his speech, Relic remarked that addressing the crowded room was a bit of a “terrifying experience”, but also “a very empowering and proud moment to present on behalf of Project Ark, an organization that will make a difference in the world.”

The Arkanauts collection was peppered with praise, standing out as one of the highlights of the night and accompanied by enthusiasm about the ‘impact’ aspect of every initiative undertaken by Project Ark and ImpactNFT Alliance.

All in all, the Redemption Art Party at Budman Studio was a positive, charming, and easy-going affair that offered some excellent exposure to art, music, and NFTs from LA and beyond.

A huge thank you to Jon Heckler for organising this experience and letting Project Ark and the Alliance be a part of it, and also to Jim Budman for opening the doors of his fabulously artsy, historic, and eclectic Budman Studio to set the tone of the event.

As a team distributed across the globe, Project Ark is able to effectively operate nearly 24 hours a day. Indeed, our Hong Kong-based crew winds down their workday just as the North American contingent comes online and our European outfit hits their midday stride. While geography and time differences still pose some communication and logistical challenges, the modern ability to stay connected allows our world-spanning team to play to our strengths and reach a more diverse audience than we would have were we to base everything around one location or demographic.

Having a decentralized team also affords us a wider perspective to inform our decisions. Everyone living in one place may cut down on some asynchrony, but doesn’t present the same kind of opportunities available to a team with a Project Lead in Berlin and Head of Business Development across the pond in Ottawa.

Project Ark has not only drawn talent from around the world but from a variety of backgrounds and career trajectories. This writer walked away from over 10 years in the music industry to join this team and its mission to fight for environmental protection. Our Artistic Director, Harto, has spent the last several years migrating between Toulouse and Barcelona, working in live theater set design and art direction before diving into the NFT art world. Product Manager Elena spent more than two years as Executive Director of NGO Aspire Romania before joining Project Ark.

Another thing that sets Project Ark apart from a large portion of the actors in the NFT and crypto ecosystems is the fact that our entire team is doxxed, meaning our identities are public knowledge, with details available to anyone interested. Shared Passion to Combat the Climate Crisis

Our mission is centered around the existential crisis facing our planet known as climate change. Climate change and its devastating effects — not only on human life, but on all life on Earth — inform and drives the decisions we make and the actions we take.

From the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report Summary for Policymakers: “Climate change has caused substantial damages, and increasingly irreversible losses, in terrestrial, freshwater and coastal and open ocean marine ecosystems (high confidence). The extent and magnitude of climate change impacts are larger than estimated in previous assessments (high confidence).”

Each and every team member at Project Ark has internalized this reality and sees it as the danger that it truly is. We recognize that there are many who have not come to terms with this scenario, dismiss it, or believe that there’s either nothing they can do or that it’s unrelated to their life and work at this juncture. Unfortunately, none of those things will stop this not-yet-inevitable catastrophe. Indeed, denial, dismissal, and discounting will only serve to secure its inevitability.

Project Ark doesn’t buy into only meeting sometimes abstract, nearly always inadequate voluntary ESG goals or baseline requirements that let us slap a gold star on our work and call it a day. We’re fighting for tangible change on the ground, and we partner with organizations and projects determined to catalyze said change.

3D Art, The Arkanauts, and Impact Investment

The Arkanauts is a collection of 4,000 NFTs on a mission to create the next generation of re(de)generative community that rewards people in the digital world while creating an impact in the real world. This NFT project is made possible through the talent and vision of our Artistic Director, Harto, and his masterful 3D designs.

Harto has brought depth, vibrance, and whimsy to the Arkanauts design, setting the collection apart from other offerings in the Solana ecosystem. In addition to nine hand-designed traits incorporated into the generative art, there will be 50 unique 1-of-1 Arkanauts. Some are inspired by influential people, including geologist, ocean conservationist, and astronaut Dr. Sian Proctor. Others are collaborations with top-flight artists and projects such as NFT OG Soltan, musician Harrison First, and AI landscape art collective Terra Obscura.

The Arkanauts collection is an opportunity for us to prove our commitment to impact by investing part of our revenue into conservation projects with a mission to clean up our oceans. Ultramarine Ocean Action Summit and Lonely Whale — the Arkanauts’ impact partners — are two established organizations with bold visions to improve ocean health.

Ultramarine is an annual summit sponsored by Sir Richard Branson and spearheaded by artist/activist Jeremy McKane and athlete/ocean defender Susi Mai. Ultramarine Ocean Action Summit’s mission is to recruit and connect leaders and activists from multiple persuasions to develop revolutionary solutions and working groups that take action to revitalize our oceans. Their “30x30” initiative — a commitment to protect 30 percent of Earth’s oceans by 2030 and pledged to protect the natural resources of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) by adopting the Palau Pledge, requires visitors to BVI (and, originally, Palau) to refrain from destroying or exploiting the rich natural resources of the area.

Lonely Whale was founded in 2015 with the express intention of preventing plastic waste from ever entering the ocean. They’ve built a community-led by 2,400 young people around the world and prevented nearly 300 million water bottles from becoming plastic pollution. Lonely Whale sees that a better future starts with cleaning up our planet now.

Project Ark dares to be different. To reclaim the negative narrative around crypto and NFTs and their environmental impact by proving that they can be powerful tools to found regenerative efforts happening in the highest-risk places in the world right now. We’ve chosen Solana as the environment to test and launch this concept. Solana is a blockchain-powered ecosystem which achieves protocol consensus and rapid transaction throughput with a mechanism called Proof of History (PoH), a methodology Solana employs in conjunction with the more widely-used Proof of Stake (PoS) infrastructure.

Staking is the process of locking tokens into a protocol to help secure the network and validate transactions for a reward in the form of yield in the original token as a percentage of the staked amount.

A natural capital endowment will be generated by the sales of NFTs as well as people staking their Solana tokens, where fees are lowered to a bare minimum and the staked SOL is split between the SOL owner and the organization that is supported through the fund.

The results will be two-fold: this model grants funds on a continuous basis to conservation efforts that protect life under water and life on land. It also provides the necessary tools to help decentralize the Solana network.

Stages of Development:

Stage 1: Natural capital endowment started from proceeds from the NFT sales. Staking rewards paid out on a continuous basis.

Stage 2: The creation of a natural capital endowment validator; used as a separate validator, which will contribute to the decentralization of the Solana network.

Stage 4: Stake pool DAO

Stake pools and stake pool DAOs will be considered as this project progresses and we flesh out the roadmap.

Project Ark will be a leader in the impact space, working with NGOs to ensure a transparent process both from a financing perspective as well as from an impact and implementation perspective. This closes the loop in the “supply chain for doing good”. In this way, people that are participating will be able to see how money is being used, see the results on the ground, and follow the creation of multiple models based on the proof of concept’s results.

Soltan has made his mark on the digital art world with striking singular pieces and collections minted across a number of blockchains, including on Solana, the chosen blockchain ecosystem of the Arkanauts. His mastery of trippy animation incorporates vivid color and geometry to yield unique 2D and 3D work.

Artist, producer, and songwriter Harrison First has bridged the gap between the music world and Web3, balancing international music collaborations and NFT releases to innovate and diversify his hustle. First has racked up over 10 million plays on Spotify and launched a series of music NFTs across multiple marketplaces. He’s created his own token ($FIRST) to enable investment in his work and access to his hottest creations.

The Arkanauts collection will contain a special 1-of-1 Arkanaut designed by Soltan, animated and rendered by our artistic director Harto, and featuring music from Harrison First.

In Arkanauts lore, SMU was one of the first stops on the Arkanauts’ journey to connect with communities and bring knowledge and experience back to their home planet, Terramar. This collaboration will integrate traits and branding from SMU into a few select pieces in the Arkanauts collection.
