In Second Life many people choose to become parents. Parenthood is tricky – in any life, and the support of friends and family helps. My friend Jax has created a beautiful place for families to socialize together.

Precious Families Island….

Families in SL aren’t so different to families in RL. Two people fall in love, and one day their love is expressed by the creation of a child.

That child becomes their whole focus… They love each other still, but now they have this beautiful extension of their love that ‘needs’ them to care for it, love it, pay it attention.

Children teach us about selflessness, as we take on our role of Parenthood.

I created a place in SL called “Precious Families Island” as a celebration of the love couples share here in SL, and the families they create. It is a public place for them to visit, with their children, and spend quality time together.

The island has romantic nooks to explore, beaches to relax on, an area that a group of friends can sit around on pillows and chat, as well as a dance floor which we use to celebrate our Families every week with a weekly party.

I think Precious may be the only place in SL where families come to dance while their babies and children toddle around the dance floor, playing and interacting, among the grown-up’s legs.

A magical place, created to celebrate the dedication of SL parents to their children, to celebrate the love that grows as a family grows, to bring parents together with other parents within SL, and allow them to share their experiences, their knowledge and their stories.

A funny thing is that just like people everywhere – friends who have children make frequent hints and suggestions that Kohn and I should join in the joy and have our own child. It makes me smile and shake my head.

#34 give thanks

In New Zealand we don’t celebrate thanksgiving – but it is a lovely festival that I have enjoyed learning about from my American friends in Second Life.

I give thanks for the creators in SL – constantly amazing me. Today it is all about the details. These photos are pretty much raw, just cropped.

This jacket from erratic has been getting a lot of exposure – because it is GREAT! The details are beautifully done and the mesh is very wearable. I have teamed it with a leather skirt from Maitreya.

The boots I am wearing have cut out & contrasting leather which is stylish and a little retro. They come 4 color variations to a pack from (Kunglers) at this month’s round of L’Accessories.

The last 3 things that I’m giving thanks for and writing about today are:

1. the hair from enVOGUE – Cassandra Rain has made fantastically blended hairbases – so they combine with the HUD colors to make a very smooth look. This Marilyn hair has the modern retro look I was hunting for – happy days!

2. the steampunk detailed earrings by Cherelle Capra from a set available at Genre – YUMMY.

3. the decor – I stumbled into this adorable thanksgiving set by 24Karat Roux and immediately felt right at home.
