Is Today Your Day?

“Today is the day in which to express your noblest qualities of mind and heart, to do at least one worthy thing which you have long postponed.” Grenville Kleiser

This is neither insightful nor wise: I’ve decided not to wait until 2012 for my New Year’s resolutions. Okay … I know, it’s only a couple of days early! It’s not that I’m super-productive or any better than the next person. I’m above-average in terms of getting things done, and I sometimes frequently succumb to the “p-word.” (shhhh! – “procrastination“)

But I just came to the conclusion that “today” is the day to start kicking it in gear a little bit more than normal.

“Today” is the day I said, “I can just do it tomorrow!”

Here are some things to ponder:
– You don’t have to get everything done today, and done perfectly, you just need to get it started. Cut back just a little on food (except for chocolate, of course), do a bit of housework that’s been put off for a while. Don’t try to do everything all at once. *do as I say, not as I do*
– The word “procrastinate” should be a noun, since there’s no action that takes place with it.
– When opportunity is knocking, be sure you have your keys and coat ready. But that can only happen if you’re prepared. Right?

Just a short post (aka, “postito” – thank you, Mikalee Byerman) today. Hope it’s a productive one for all of you! And happy blogging – I, personally, have no problem keeping that aspect of my life going! 🙂

“If Music, I Mean ‘Pumpkin Pie,’ Be the Food of Love, Play On …”

Manna from heaven! Albeit, too light on the whipping cream.

Vegetables are a must on a diet. I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread, and pumpkin pie.

I had dreams of it tasting like a pumpkin pie. Of course, it didn’t. I hated it.

Fall is my favorite time of year; even here in northern California where the leaves are in their glorious color in the middle to end of November. During the day, it’s in the high 50’s to low 60’s and at night it’s crisp, without being too cold. In addition, there’s college or NFL football on TV nearly every day (not that I watch obsessively, because I really don’t). The best part of fall, though, without a doubt is pumpkin pie.
One of the greatest foods in human history, pumpkin pie is something I appreciate more than, I believe, just about any other delectable. I’m not a huge eater, but toss me some crab legs and I’ll polish them off quickly. Thin crust, NY-style pizza – eat half of a large in short order. A nice, juicy steak goes down this gullet in no time flat. You get the idea.
You’re thinking, this guy has no “food-filter.” I look at it like my body craves this oh-so-healthy (les aliments sains) vegetable. I’m sure my pumpkin pie addiction is due to the fact that pumpkin contains the following:
– vitamins – full of vitamin A, and also has vitamins C, K, and E
– antioxidants, in particular alpha and beta-carotenes
– minerals – magnesium, potassium, copper, calcium, and iron
– fiber, protein, and omega-3 fatty acids
Fortunately, PP – that’s shorthand – is for the most part a seasonal food. Otherwise, it would be difficult to maintain my boyish figure. But, thankfully, there’s still some season left, and I say “pumpkin pie: play on, food of love!”
