"Why can't Argus just restart the service itself?" One question in last week's engineering sync. Three hours of debate. Argus is our monitoring agent. It watches production, spots failures, and tells the team exactly what broke. The question was whether it should also be allowed to fix things without asking anyone. Half the room said yes: an agent that has to ask permission is a dashboard with extra steps. The other half asked one question back: who signs the change record when it restarts something at 3am and gets it wrong? Nobody moved for three hours. We did land on one rule. Argus acts alone where rollback is cheap and the blast radius is known. Anything touching production beyond that waits for a human signature. The best calls here get made standing up. Photos below. Clearing is one of the most demanding stretches in UK higher education. It runs for several weeks, from results day on the 13th of August through to mid-September, with the first 3 days after results being the most intense and the pace staying high for about four weeks after that. Thousands of students move into remaining course places during that window, and the technology behind it has zero room for downtime.   Unite Students saw this coming. Rather than treat operational readiness as an afterthought, their leadership invested ahead of time in the monitoring, alerting and incident response needed to handle that pressure with confidence. Six AI agents are going to the opera. Bring your hardest question. On 22nd and 23rd September we'll be at AI Tech Summit "Filip Avramchev", at the National Opera and Ballet, as sponsors, as speakers, as panelists, as hackathon mentors, and at a booth with six AI agents that came out of real client work: Argus, PrismAI, Robin, TRYche, ThemisData, and Lumin Data. One of them gets extra stage time. Robin presents live on the AI Expo Stage and headlines the booth demos, so if you want to see a single agent pushed hard in front of an audience, that is the session to catch. We're bringing the agents for a simple reason: most people who are curious about AI have only seen it in slides. We'd rather show the real thing and introduce you to the engineers who built it. Here's what that means if you're attending. If you're a student or early in your career, our booth is the shortest path from "I've read about AI agents" to "I've watched one work." Start with Robin's live run. Ask the engineer who built it what broke along the way, because plenty did. Then pick another agent and do it again. And if you're competing in the hackathon, come find your mentors early. Our engineers are judging, so it can't hurt to know how they think. If you already work in tech and run AI somewhere in your stack, come argue with us about what breaks in production. That conversation is the reason we're bringing engineers and not just brochures. Argus started on third shift.   One engineer, awake at 03:00, working out for the hundredth time which of six dashboards was telling the truth. He got tired of it. Not dramatically. Tired the way you get tired when the same forty minutes goes missing every week and you are the only person awake to notice it.   So he built something to do the looking for him.   Nikola is in the photo.
