“It is not really a “game” at least not in the traditional sense.”
For the past few months MPI has been all about runway shows and numerous promotions that we barely get to know the culprit of all this success. It’s time to get to know the man behind the success of MPI – Mr. Jason Grant, Founder and CEO.
On the 30th of October I was lucky to have a conversation with CEO himself who was kind enough to open up himself to us and tell us his story.
Mr. Grant, can you tell us who Jason Grant is in Second Life?
Jason Grant: In RL, Jason Grant is “Jason Moore”. I could go into a huge dialogue here but my RL bio that I have exposed to the general public may be found here
Jason Moore a former resident assistant at Howard University (one of the few coveted positions students could obtain in the university). He developed student programs and additionally upheld the dormitory code of conduct while also serving as a mediator between student disputes, etc… He worked as a senior systems analyst at Kraft Foods for about six years. He primarily developed Intranet based software applications (tools) used by Research and Development scientists and engineers.
MPI has experienced countless success over the past months. When and why did you decide to put up a modeling agency in Second Life?
Jason Grant: Back in Jan/Feb 2009 MPI started out as just a SL presence of www.modelpages.tv with a simple office where people could come visit and then access the site. At some point, I wanted to offer some type of education to visitors and so over the months, MPI has evolved into what it is today
What was your motivation in pursuing the business and how do you envision MPI months or years forward?
Jason Grant: My motivation has always been able to provide clients with the utmost in customer service and for me, MPI as it exists in SL is the best way I can achieve that. I envision MPI as continuing to build upon many of the successes it has had today. I am always looking for ways to enhance the client experience and refine processes at the same time so MPI will continue to grow from this innovative approach.
Looks like its been all about work. Nonetheless in this fantasy made real world. aside from work what else do you do for fun in SL?
Jason Grant: Yes, it is constant work. I actually have a passion for it so it is also fun to me. The challenge aspect. For fun in SL, I oftentimes will go dancing. Apollo and 7th Element are a couple places I frequent. However, in all honesty, I see SL as a huge chat room with different environments so having a stimulating conversation with a friend is also a good way to use my time.
In your ads you’ve mentioned about opportunities of becoming an RL model, how exactly does it work?
Jason Grant: Basically, anyone with the aspiration of testing their image in RL may sign up for a free account on www.modelpages.tv It’s a great way to network and find professionals in the industry. On the site are already well-connected RL pro photographers, RL aspiring models, RL magazines and RL model scouts, etc … I do ask that anyone who comes from SL and joins there not use avatar photos as that is a RL site. More information about the site may be found here: www.modelpages.tv/page/about-us
Have you had people from Second Life asking for RL Modeling Opportunities?
Jason Grant: Every now and then they do and I direct them to that site
Miss Refined has been a buzz in SL. What does it exactly promote?
Jason Grant: Miss Refined is mostly about self-improvement and promoting a positive self-image while maintaining your self-respect. It is also about creativity, having fun and meeting others in the industry.
What were your experiences handling the contest and contestants?
Jason Grant: We got to a good start. To my surprise, some of the early contestants were well-known and respected in the fashion industry. Aside from working out the kinks from the first casting, the second went relatively flawless. The contestants seem genuinely engaged and they also take it seriously.
What other businesses do you have in SL and can you tell us more about it?
Jason Grant: In SL, I have a store called “Be You” which is on the MPI Plaza showcasing some of SL’s best designer’s fashion for sale. I also have a shop opening soon named “Perfect Skins” which will sell exquisite skins.” I also own and operate a group that is free to join called “Model Job Source” that helps models and other fashion industry professionals find jobs. I have a magazine in the works called “Rising Star” to focus on up and coming talent. I also help market and promote www.freedigitalcash.com on the MPI Campus. Then there is www.mpimodels.com which is the SL MPI Model Management site.
To sum it all up…
What are your tips for incoming models of MPI and to the graduates of MPI?
Jason Grant: For incoming models and new graduates, I would say if your are serious about becoming a success at this, you should take it serious. It is not really a “game” at least not in the traditional sense. You are going to get out what you put in. Expect to work hard to see some initial success and make sure you keep a positive attitude in everything you do.
Future plans for the agency? Any upcoming events or shows for people to watch out for?
Jason Grant: This coming Sunday we have a graduate fashion show featuring products from CCD and Body Study at 4 PM. As an agency, we will continue to look for ways to enhance our client experience and give them more value.
Now that we know the reason for the success of our agency, we just have to thank our mentor for giving us the opportunity to express ourselves in the world of fashion and modeling.
