Ted Cruz illegal immigration crackdown blocked by Harry Reid

For some reason I thought that the Senate was under Republican management.

Sunday, April 12, 2015

When you've got a corrupt attorney-general and a corrupt revenue collector, you don't really need much else.

A republic has by definition to be virtuous - or it's a banana republic. This country has a chief law enforcement officer who prosecutes Senator Menendez, a Democrat senator who made the mistake of crossing the President, but won't prosecute Lois Lerner, a member of the supposedly "non-partisan" civil service who used the bureaucracy to target the President's enemies. When you've got a corrupt attorney-general and a corrupt revenue collector, you don't really need much else.
But you really have a lot more:

Nevertheless, even in the murk of the Obama sewer, the case of the retiring Senate Minority Leader is curious. Harry Reid is apparently now blind in one eye because of an accident with his "resistance band" while "working out" on New Year's Day. If this is true, why are Democrats not calling for federal regulation of resistance bands and mandatory licensing of resistance-band users after three years of training?

Reid's story is obviously bunk, and always was. And then, three months after somebody takes the resistance band to him, the second most powerful Democrat in Washington, and the very definition of the careerist timeserving hack who'll stay in "public service" until they carry him out by the handles, mysteriously decides it's time to hang up his boots. So whoever did this to him managed to take out the Senate Minority Leader.

The Capitol Police, who transported Reid to his local hospital and then - presumably because of the severity of his injuries - to a larger medical facility, are supposed to work for the American people but they're stonewalling on Breitbart News' routine requests for information - and none of the legacy media are even bothering to ask. Harry Reid is in the fortunate position of so many career politicians who, after a lifetime of "public service" at relatively modest rates of remuneration, has emerged a remarkably wealthy man. And now a powerful Beltway operator has just been resistance-banded into early retirement. Isn't there a great story here for a Washington Post or New York Times reporter minded to dig a little?

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED TO HARRY REID?

The "Drive-by media" as Rush Limbaugh calls them are a pretty homogeneous herd when it comes to certain many subjects.  For example the Fast & Furious gun running scandal is always referred to as a mistake.  It's one of those subjects that makes me ask "how stupid do they think we are?"

The way Harry Reid got his face battered, his ribs broken and his eye closed is another example.  An exercise band breaking?  Give me a break!  apparently the press really does not want to get into a fight between Reid and the Mafia so they pretend to swallow the lie and move on.

From Powerline:
Scott wrote here about Harry Reid’s announcement that he will not run for re-election, a decision which, Reid was quick to say, was not the result of his “elastic exercise band” accident. In January, I wrote OK, So What Really Happened to Harry Reid? I noted the injuries that Reid suffered on New Year’s Day, in Las Vegas: multiple broken bones around his right eye, damage to the right eye, severe facial bruising, broken ribs, and a concussion. Was all of this really the result of losing his balance because an elastic exercise band broke? That seems unlikely, to say the least.

Anyone who saw Reid would say that he looked like he had been beaten up by a guy with a hard left, maybe using brass knuckles:

Screen-Shot-2015-01-06-at-6.27.10-PM.png,qresize=322,P2C254.pagespeed.ce.0BOUCoxKVCiODmkbLCJe

When a guy shows up at a Las Vegas emergency room on New Year’s Day with severe facial injuries and broken ribs, and gives as an explanation the functional equivalent of “I walked into a doorknob,” it isn’t hard to guess that he ran afoul of mobsters. Yet the national press has studiously averted its eyes from Reid’s condition, and has refused to investigate the cause of his injuries. To my knowledge, every Washington reporter has at least pretended to believe Reid’s story, and none, as far as I can tell, has inquired further.

A friend of mine was in Las Vegas a week or two ago. He talked to a number of people there about Reid’s accident, and didn’t find anyone who believed the elastic exercise band story. The common assumption was that the incident resulted, in some fashion, from Reid’s relationship with organized crime. The principal rumor my friend heard was that Reid had promised to obtain some benefit for a group of mobsters. He met with them on New Year’s Day, and broke the bad news that he hadn’t been able to deliver what he promised. When the mobsters complained, Reid (according to the rumor) made a comment that they considered disrespectful, and one of them beat him up.

Is that what really happened? I have no idea, but it is a more likely story than the elastic exercise band yarn.

What happened to Reid is not just a matter of curiosity. Everyone knows that the Reid family has gotten rich, even though Reid has spent his entire career as a public employee. It is known that a considerable part of his fortune came from being cut in on sweetheart Las Vegas land deals that included at least one person associated with organized crime as a principal. Was the Senate Majority Leader in the pocket of the Mafia? That seems like a question worth exploring, and yet, to my knowledge, not a single investigative reporter has chosen to look into the matter, even with the obvious clue of Reid’s face in front of them.

The deliberate blindness of Democratic Party reporters hasn’t stopped people from speculating about what really happened to Harry Reid, but so far, at least, it has prevented the story from exploding into a major scandal.

After Reid announced his decision to retire, Rush Limbaugh also hinted that Reid had not fallen off his exercise equipment, but had fallen afoul of some people who beat him up.

Justice corrupted

Daniel Henninger begins his piece on Eric Holder thusly:
History will ill-serve Eric Holder if it does no more than echo the view common in the wake of his resignation that his tenure as Attorney General was "controversial." Mr. Holder's more than five years as the nation's chief legal officer were consequential.

In tandem with Barack Obama 's White House, Mr. Holder pushed the authority of the federal government and its administrative agencies beyond the edge of the Constitution and law. They did so not in one or several controversial instances, as with past presidencies, but repeatedly and across the breadth of the federal government.

Holder’s official duties are to be the country’s chief law enforcement officer. In reality he was Obama’s “enforcer.” He was there to give a legal gloss to what Obama wanted done. In many cases what Obama wanted Holder to do was nothing.  To hold the line, to hide the truth, to obstruct justice.  He was the goalie past whom no investigation of corruption or malfeasance was allowed to pass. He was Obama’s “stone wall.”

But he had help in what he did: the Democrats in Congress. When the cover-up surrounding the Watergate break-in was revealed, members of Richard Nixon’s own party went to the White House to tell the President that he should resign or face impeachment. These men put the country ahead of their party. Nixon, rather than fight impeachment in the House and a trial in the Senate, resigned, sparing the country much trauma and a Constitutional crisis. There is reason to think that Nixon could have taken the route that Clinton did years later, with the same effect. The Republicans who went to the White House to confront Nixon - the Republican Senate and House leadership - also understood their critical responsibilities assigned to them by the Constitution.  They were the checks and balances.  Congress was there not just to make laws but to make sure that the President did not overstep his bounds.  They viewed Congress as a separate and co-equal branch of government, transcending party loyalty. The Senate under the leadership of Democrat Harry Reid is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Obama administration. Without Reid and Pelosi, Holder could not hold the line. It is inconceivable that any action by Obama could cause a Democrat revolt. To take an extreme example, can anyone see Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi confronting Obama if he would announce that, because of a national emergency, the election of 2016 will be postponed indefinitely?

The comparison of Obama to Nixon is apt because both Presidents committed unconstitutional acts. But only one paid a price for it. Compare Eric Holder to John Mitchell, Nixon’s Attorney General. Because Mitchell aided Nixon in attempting to cover up Watergate he was indicted and sent to prison. Unless there is a dramatic change of attitude by Democrats in Congress, Holder will never be held to account for helping Obama obstruct justice in, for example, the IRS scandal or Fast & Furious. I put the onus on Democrats because it is difficult to imagine Republican leaders such as John Boehner or Mitch McConnell having the will or courage to stand up against the Democrats or (in Glenn Reynolds' memorable phrase) the "Democrats with bylines" in the media.

When you realize that the thing that separates us from a South American caudillo-style government is not the constitution, but lethargy on the part of the President, you become worried about the future.

Is this man the head of a crime syndicate?

Kevin Williamson thinks he may be. Harry Reid is trying to repeal the First amendment protecting free speech.

Dissent is the highest form of patriotism. Dissent is the lowest form of crime. If you are a drone in the hive of the Left, it is possible — easy, in fact — to believe both of those things at the same time....

Likewise, the point of indicting Governor Perry and Mr. Hall is not to send either man to jail, but to harass them, to bully them, to bankrupt them if possible, and to keep them from functioning as effective critics of entrenched Democratic political interests.

The only thing stopping federal authorities from suffocating free speech — not only by independent groups such as the SBA List, but by individuals, trade groups, National Review, and the New York Times — is the First Amendment.

And Harry Reid wants to gut it. Figure out why that is and you’ll know everything you need to know about the Democratic party, which with each passing day functions less and less like a political party and more like a crime syndicate.

‘Fire Harry Reid’ becomes GOP rallying cry heading into 2014 elections

On Wednesday, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus described Mr. Reid as “dirty” and “unethical.”

A few comments:
Although the Psalms and other Old Testament passages have examples of godly men praying for the death of their oppressors and enemies, many of my christian brothers say that it is, if not a sin, at least un-Christ-like to pray for the death of anyone. That may be so, but I find no prescription against saying that I would not shed a tear if he died a painful death. (I'm not sure if there are proscriptions against grave-dancing, though.)

And this:
The strange thing is, Harry is really a very mediocre fellow, and that is being generous. I've run into him a little bit over forty years. I see Nancy P as being in the same mold of half-witted stumblebums. The evil talent must be lurking unseen.

And finally this:
"I could not attend his funeral, but I did send a note saying I approve."

There have been very powerful and evil men throughout history that have had mediocre minds.  What they had in common was an iron will.

Death benefits not paid to fallen soldiers families

The MSM  and the conservative media are treating the scandal very differently.

To read about the story in the MSM, the Pentagon had no choice about withholding payment of the death benefit from the grieving families and denying them a plane ride to Dover AFB to meet the bodies  of the soldiers killed in battle.  It seems that some unknown entity we'll call "Mr. Government Closer" found a rule that said that death benefits can't be paid, but that the Pentagon can keep the military golf course open so that President Obama can play.  Of course nobody told Obama anything, he has to wait to read about it in the Washington Post.  And of course, when Commander-in-Chief Obama found out what the Obama Pentagon had done he went right to work ordering his Pentagon to find a way.  What a guy!

Of course the reality is 180 degrees from this fairy tale.  The Obama administration wanted to create the maximum pain on the American people to pressure the House of Representatives to cave in to all the Obama demands.  These include absolutely no changes in that train wreck called ObamaCare (except what Obama decrees) and a blank check with no limits on all future government spending.

So how can we cause the American people pain while blaming it on the Tea Party?  If that meant closing the open-air World War 2 Memorial and the Viet Nam Memorial that was one way.  If it meant closing the Grand Canyon and Mt. Rushmore, that was another.  If it meant turning young cancer patients away form the NIH and refusing to consider a bill passed by the House to keep it open, that was third.  If it meant not paying the widows and orphans of the dead, that was a fourth.  The list of petty and vindictive actions taken by Team Obama is much longer than this, but they will do to show the nature of the people at the top.

This is the group that has the full throated support of the MSM who tell us that we should be blaming the Republicans and the Tea Party because they can make all this pain go away if only they would give in.  And it's true, you can always make the torturers stop if you give them what they want.  But make no mistake about who's inflicting the pain and the nature of the people who choose to deny aging veterans access to their memorials, families the right to see their parks and grieving families the right to meet their dead heroes and collect the pittance that is due them.   Make no mistake that when you hear how this is all the fault of the Tea Party, just keep in mind that the House of Representatives has passed bills to fund all of these activities, but Harry Reid won't let them pass in the Senate and Obama promises to veto them.

Progressivism, Chaos, Tyranny, and the Community Organizer's Blackmail and Extortion

The Diplomad remarks that if Harry Reid calls opponents "modern day anarchists,'' we should return the favor and call him a modern day Bolshevik.  the difference is that he's lying and we are telling the truth.

We see our National Parks, a Republican idea, used to further the progressive's notions of expanding government. The US Park Service, once a model of what a government agency could be, has become just another tool used by progressives to create chaos in furtherance of progressive goals. Park Rangers, once admired for their knowledge of American history, geography, flora, and fauna are now just tools of petty repression. They are used to roust elderly veterans out of the monuments built to honor those elderly veterans, and to prevent taxpayers from viewing the great parks and historical locations in our country, many of them partially, mostly, or even entirely built with private funds.

In sum, what do we see? We see the community organizer tactic of using lies, chaos, and the uncertainty that flows as tools of blackmail and extortion. The progressives have moved into almost every aspect of our lives, and when they encounter resistance to further encroachment, they threaten us by shutting down the other services on which they have made us dependent. It's blackmail, pure and simple. We have the extraordinary spectacle of an American President predicting economic disaster and warning Wall Street of tough times to come if he does not get his way. We have a President pushing the stock market to crash, and dissuading businesses from investing and creating jobs, all over a dispute about his seriously flawed health care policy. He, again, is the Chicago community organizer threatening the local landlord or McDonald's franchise with instability, violence, and disruption if he does not get what he wants. Imagine what he can do to you, if he controls your health care.

Chaos in the service of tyranny. The only way to defeat this is to stop the encroachment of government on our lives and begin a serious campaign of rollback.

I agree with Thomas Jefferson; I think a little revolution every now and then is healthy.

Park Ranger: “We’ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can. It’s disgusting.”

A Park Ranger explaining Barack Obama's instructions.
The Park Service appears to be closing streets on mere whim and caprice. The rangers even closed the parking lot at Mount Vernon, where the plantation home of George Washington is a favorite tourist destination. That was after they barred the new World War II Memorial on the Mall to veterans of World War II. But the government does not own Mount Vernon; it is privately owned by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association. The ladies bought it years ago to preserve it as a national memorial. The feds closed access to the parking lots this week, even though the lots are jointly owned with the Mount Vernon ladies. The rangers are from the government, and they’re only here to help.

“It’s a cheap way to deal with the situation,” an angry Park Service ranger in Washington says of the harassment. “We’ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can. It’s disgusting.”

The Republicans, fighting with smaller-bore weaponry, keep trying to get some things reopened with carefully targeted legislation. The Senate, under the thumbs of Sen. Harry Reid and the White House, refuses to budge from the trivial and the petty. It says here that Harry Reid’s critics, and they are legion, should give the guy a break. No man in Washington is under the pressure he is, and it doesn’t seem quite cricket to do that to an old man, even one who deserves it.

Why is Obama trying to shut down the government?

Republicans in the House have sent to the Senate a bill that fully funds all government programs except the implementation of ObamaCare, a very unpopular program that most American don't want. Why do the Democrats insist on shutting down the government if they don't get their way?

The administration and media are hard at work trying to push the idea of an uncompromising GOP taking the economy hostage. The real question: why won’t Obama and the Democrats negotiate?

Why do they hate the American people so much?

Obama threatened to stop Social Security checks if he doesn't get his way.  Why does Obama hate old people so much?

Obama threatened to not pay soldiers if he doesn't get his way.  Why does Obama hate the men and women defending the country so much?

Hospitals are shutting down because of ObamaCare.  Why does Obama hate sick people so much?

People are losing full time jobs because of ObamaCare.  Why does Obama hate working people so much?

Black people are poorer than ever because of Obama's policies.  Why does Obama hate black people so much?

Black babies are being aborted in record numbers thanks to Obama policies.  Why does Obama hate black babies so much?

Obama spokesperson called ordinary Americans terrorist with bombs strapped to their chest.  Why does Obama hate you so much?

In the Mean Times

Bud Norman notes that the Left has gotten increasingly hateful, from the President on down to the shock troops in the trenches of academia and politics.

At the very highest levels of the Democratic party the president routinely tells audiences that his opposition is motivated by the desire to cause the poor and sick to suffer while making the environment uninhabitable, and it invariably gets a big hand from the hand-picked crowds of true believers. With such mean rhetoric coming from the leaders, it’s not surprising that the followers would start hoping for the death of sons and daughters....

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has recently described the “tea party” legislators attempting to limit the debt and de-fund Obamacare as “anarchists” and “fanatics.” It’s nice to know that “anarchist” is still a term of opprobrium in Democratic circles, given their longtime indulgence of the black-masked thugs going by that name who terrorized the past several international economic summits, but the insult does not bode well for any bipartisan solutions to the nation’s problems....

Yet another story involves a journalism professor at the University of Kansas, who took to the “tweets” after the mass murder at Washington’s Navy Yard to say “The blood is on the hands of the NRA. Next time, let is be YOUR sons and daughters. Shame on you. May God damn you.” ...

One story concerns the Sacramento Democratic Party’s communications chairman, of all people, who responded to a “Tweet” advocating the de-funding of Obamacare by writing on his own “Twitter” account: “May your children all die from debilitating, painful and incurable diseases.”

Can't we all just get along?

Or is this the next step?

We already have the police arresting a man for speaking up at a public meeting.

DRUDGE and now UPI catching on to Harry Reid lies.

Harry Reid caught lying about '$2.6 trillion' in cuts passed by Senate...

Harry Reid twice wrong on '$2.6 trillion' cuts in 'This Week' interview

How do we know?   His lips were moving.  Well, who can blame his for uttering ever more blatant lies, the press has been covering up for his and all the other lies the Democrats have been told, I'm sure it's s shock to him if he's ever held to the truth.

The David Gregory Rule in the Senate

David Gregory broke the law when he possessed and showed a magazine for a weapon on television in his Washington DC studio. DC forbids anyone in its jurisdiction from having a magazine capable of holding 30 bullets. David Gregory knew this but he did it anyway. And the Washington DC attorney whose job it is to prosecute David Gregory Irvin Nathan, a friend of the Gregorys, gave him a free pass.

Hence the David Gregory rule which states that if you are Liberal, powerful and influential in Washington DC you can commit the crimes that get the Little People arrested, prosecuted and thrown in jail.

There are a lot of David Gregorys in Washington. There are more than 50 of them in one chamber of the capitol, called the Senate. They are required by law, specifically the Congressional Budget Act of 1974 (CBA), to produce a budget resolution by April 15th of each year. They have failed to do this for four years.

Because of the David Gregory Rule.

Like the feckless DC Prosecutor, Irvin Nathan, there is no one who’s going to arrest Harry Reid for failing in his legal duty.

The media is, of course, delighted that Gregory skated. He’s one of theirs and he committed his crime in the cause of disarming the American people, a cause to which they are firmly committed. And while we have heard some snark on the Right, we have heard less than nothing from the MSM about the Senate’s failure to act in accordance with the law.

The American people are becoming used to seeing the rich and well-connected flout the law. Fast & Furious led to hundreds of deaths but not one criminal indictment. Democrat fat cat Jon Corzine illegally “lost” his customers roughly a billion dollars and he’s still bundling money for Obama. David Gregory waves an illegal large capacity magazine in front of the nation’s TV sets and gets not so much as wrist slap; instead he’s rewarded with an exclusive TV interview with the President. Harry Reid flouts the plain letter of the law at a time of severe economic stress and record setting budget deficits and not so much as a peep is heard from the prostitutes in the press. This may be a good time to ask: Can Democracy Survive When We Don't Trust Our Leaders?
