“We could have produced our courses without CourseAI — but we would have spent twice as much time on design just to meet the deadline.” — Florian Le Bars, radio educator and animator, La Skol
That’s the thing about good AI tools. Rather than take over, they just take the heavy lifting off your plate.
It’s exactly that thinking that brought together three Moodle Premium Certified Partners — E-learning Touch’ in France, 3ipunt in Spain, and Moxis in Denmark — to build CourseAI: a plugin designed to make Moodle course creation faster, without taking control away from the people who know their learners best.
What is CourseAI?
CourseAI is a Moodle solutions plugin that turns a topic description or a set of uploaded materials into a fully structured course in under three minutes. Feed it a PDF, a video, an audio file or a simple prompt — and it generates sections, activities, assessments, completion tracking and even illustrations. Educators then review, adjust and make it their own
How it works
CourseAI follows three simple steps:
Prompt. Choose your subject or upload existing materials — a PDF, audio or video file — to use as the foundation for your course.
Generate. Select your scripting options and let CourseAI do the work. Results arrive in under three minutes, built on the ABC Learning Design method.
Create. Review the generated structure, adjust anything that needs it, and publish. Then CourseAI’s job is done — the course is all yours.
Built on native Moodle activities
A key design principle behind CourseAI was to rely exclusively on native Moodle activities — no external course packaging, file imports or lock-in. Once a course is generated, it lives in Moodle LMS like any other and is completely independent of the plugin.
The plugin can generate more than ten activity types, including quizzes, H5P content, forums, glossaries, assignments and certificates, and automatically applies completion tracking settings — something that, as anyone who has built Moodle courses knows, often gets skipped.
A collaboration built across borders
What makes CourseAI most interesting is how it came to exist.
The plugin is the result of a collaboration between three Moodle Premium Partners across Europe: E-learning Touch’ in France, 3ipunt in Spain, and Moxis in Denmark. The three teams travelled to meet each other in person, combining pedagogical, technical and strategic expertise to build something none of them could have built alone.
At Moodle Partner Day, all three partners took to the stage together to talk about the project — and the enthusiasm in the room was palpable.
“Getting to work together in person made all the difference. You can’t build something like this over email,” says Tue Korsgaard, Director of Moxis. “The trust we built is in the product.”
A transparent and flexible model
CourseAI connects to the client’s own AI account — OpenAI, Mistral, or an internal LLM — with additional models planned for future integration. The pricing model is straightforward: a fixed annual plugin licence, plus variable AI usage costs depending on how many courses are generated.
Already making an impact
CourseAI is already in use internationally, and was showcased at MoodleMoot Global 2025 as part of the opening keynote — a reminder that some of the most useful innovation in the Moodle ecosystem comes not from one team working in isolation, but from partners building something together.
