Sustainable development continues…

More news from the country that the UN wants to lead its Commission on Sustainable Development.

Huge rise in Zimbabwe inflation

Zimbabwe’s rate of inflation surged to 3,731.9%, driven by higher energy and food costs, and amplified by a drop in its currency, official figures show.

April’s inflation rate jumped up from the 2,200% recorded last month, the Central Statistical Office (CSO) said.

Sorry, folks! My mind fails to comprehend how one goes about living in a country with inflation like this. I remember the Carter presidency with its double-digit inflation and how things were, and that was BAD. This is simply monstrous.

Of course, their government is doing things to fix this:

The announcement came after Zimbabwe’s government created a commission charged with finding a way to curb the country’s spiralling cost of living.

There is high unemployment, and fuel and food shortages across the nation.

They’ve formed a commission, populated, no doubt, by friends of the Thug-in-Chief, Robert Mugabe.

The surging cost of domestic electricity, food, fuel and commuter transport fares were at the heart of last month’s price surges, the CSO said.

Economists believe that these price increases will continue because Zimbabwe will be forced to import maize, a basic food staple, to make up for a lack of home-grown produce.

Oh, well. They’re circling the drain…

The government has also recently warned of shortages of bread and flour, which may cause even more hardship.

Last week, households in Zimbabwe were told they would be limited to four hours electricity supply a day in a move designed to support the country’s wheat farmers, who need power to irrigate their crops.

One has to wonder what the result would be in America if the “government” announced that there wasn’t enough food to feed the nation. Then, I wonder what mentality is in place in Zimbabwe that will let an entire nation accept this news without their “leadership” swinging from whatever species of foliage they have left…

Rampant inflation is a clear sign of a deep economic crisis, analysts said.

As goes the colloquial expression around here: “NO SH*T!!!!”. How would you like it if the hundred dollars you had in your pocket at the beginning of the year was worth three bucks at the end of the year? Wouldn’t you question the value of your country’s policies?

Critics have blamed President Robert Mugabe’s policies, particularly the seizure of white-owned farms, for damaging the once self-sufficient country – in the past described as the bread basket of Africa.

“Bread basket” to basket case in less than a generation. But they got rid of all those horrible white folks who were raping the country and keeping the black man down…

President Mugabe, meanwhile, has accused foreign governments of trying to sabotage Zimbabwe’s economy and topple him.

And exactly who do you think builds the fine cars and jet aircraft that Mr. Mugabe enjoys? Are those millions of dollars he’s looted from his country in AFRICAN banks?

Yep! These fine people are just who we want the UN to put in charge of “sustainable development”.

Just sayin’

Filled up the company car on the way to work this morning: $2.99! Yes, it was one of those stations right off I-10 that’s basically set up to rape the out-of-staters driving through, but it’s convenient to me on my way to work and, Hey!, the fuel for that car is billed directly to my employer. If your gas bill goes up, write me a nasty letter.

You won’t see me hollering about gas prices. Cox & Forkum has a statement to make:
