Bach Inventions. Many of us know them by ear, but we don’t know where they come from. The tunes are timeless.

I’m feeling generous this morning, so here’s another. This is Number 8:
I’m 82. I’ve been playing no 8 (quite well) since the age of 10. My teacher (now 96) still corrects me!
Proof that playing or teaching Bach will keep one alive for many years. Never too late for any of you to start.

A sign of age? When I hear the opening of Invention 13, I think of the first commercial for the original Macintosh computer.

I remember that, too. It’s rather interesting that a Bach piece should be used so effectively to represent such an innovative product: Music a couple of centuries old to introduce a rather innovative computer. I think Bach smiled.
