Today is Joseph Haydn’s birthday.

Some dude invented the valved trumpet, hit ol’ Joseph up for a piece that would showcase the ability of the instrument to eat up whole scales.

This is what Haydn came up with, his Concerto in E-flat Major for Trumpet and Orchestra. The third movement is here performed by Alison Balsom, because if you add teh perfection of her trumpet performance with, well, pleasant-looking lady…
