If you follow the many endeavours that English producer/DJ Fred again.. dives into, you’ve likely witnessed the 35-minute video of him recording a series of improvised musical ideas with Monterrey, Mexico, group LATIN MAFIA under the kinetic fabric installation that covered his audiences on the USB002 tour. That video was made the night before this final tour stop—a prelude to an epic gig at Mexico City’s Expo Santa Fe. In his signature fashion, Fred courses out the evening with a menu of moods, moving from ethereal (“Winnie [end of me]”, Eric Whitacre Singers’ “Lux Aurumque”) to bumping (“Talk of the Town” with Sammy Virji and Reggie, “Last 1s Left/Muita” with Skepta and Yo Speed) to laidback (“glow” with Four Tet, Skrillex and more). But, appropriately, Fred finds a new sort of energy in showcasing a host of Latin artists here, from ROSALÍA and Tokischa to cellist Mabe Fratti and his friends LATIN MAFIA, whose collaborative tracks offer the set its biggest dose of emotion.
