For his Sounds of Cape Town mix, Ready D shuffles tracks by The Rockets, Dee Koala, Das Kapital, Freshlyground, Jeremy Loops and Kanyi Mavi—to name but a few—all in the service of telling the story of Cape Town through Grandmaster Ready D’s ears. “This mix is a reflection of Cape Town’s youth speaking in their own voice, but it’s also a reflection of my hip-hop foundation,” Ready D says. “I approach every genre with the mindset, technique and storytelling discipline of hip-hop DJing.
