High Dollar Fashion

Since I usually post about things that are under $50, I figured I would do a post about things that are over $50.
Some popular high end brands include:
- Coach
- Burberry
- Ralph Lauren
- Gucci
- Dolce and Gabbana
- Max Azria (and BCBG Max Azria)
- Miu Miu
High end stuff usually comes with a bit of prestige. People will notice things like a Coach bag or a pair of Miu Miu flats. Your whole outfit doesn’t have to scream “$$$!” but a statement piece will get their attention. A powerful outfit (especially if it coordinates with said statement piece) will keep their attention.
Now be warned that my Polyvore set is going to contain some very high dollar items. This is an unrealistic post for me, but what the heck?! I feel like it.
Update on Trends, June 2011

Hey. I’m sorry I haven’t been posting as much, but life has just been a little crazy lately.
I’ve spied some trends that I think are notable.
First, nail art. I am a huge fan of this, and there are many products to help you do your own nails instead of shelling out big dollars at a salon. OPI Shatter nail polish is super trendy. You paint a color (any, but bright ones like pink and white work best) on your nails like usual, and then paint the shatter over it. Watch as the nail polish shatters or cracks. It dries matte, but if you want a shine you can paint a clear coat over top. OPI shatter collection is available on Amazon and in some beauty stores. Visit OPI.com for more details and to find a location near you.
Second, floral. Floral is pretty easy to wear. Pair it with some gladiator sandals and a bright nail color, and you’re set.
Third, color blocking. Take a bunch of bold colors and throw them together in an outfit. For a better idea of what it is, look at the Polyvore set below. Tie it together with a solid color belt or shoes.
Prom dresses
Posted on: May 22, 2011
Tis the season for prom. The date, the shoes, the flowers and…the dress. Obviously, the dress is the most important part, especially for fashionistas. There’s even a new website out were you can rent a dress and accessories for the big day (http://renttherunway.com/).
The top 3 Prom dress trends:
- Prints (animal, abstract)
- Spray tan (don’t follow this trend)
- Paying too much for a dress you’ll wear once (don’t follow this one either)
Take this short quiz to decide which dress is right for you.
1. Which 2010 trend was your fave?
a) Plaid
b) Ruffles
c) Floral
d) Military style
2. Day to day, your style is closest to…
a) Trendy
b) Floaty
c) Girly
d) Tomboy
3. If you get dressed up, you wear…
a) A skirt and a polo shirt, with matching nail art.
b) A dress, something pink and lacy.
c) A dress, long and ruffled.
d) Pantsuit.
If you scored:
A’s: You should wear a printed dress. That’s the latest trend, so that’s you!
B’s: You should wear a ruffled dress. Short would probably be best, in a bright color.
C’s: You should wear a long floral dress. Accessorize with some flowers in your hair and flats.
D’s: You should wear a short, one shouldered dress. Do your hair in a braid if it’s long, or curl it if it’s short.
Floral Print

Floral print is so happy and spring-y. Floral isn’t hard to wear, either. In this post I explain how (and where) to wear floral print.
How: Pair it with a solid top, like a tank top or a fitted tee. Because floral prints usually have a lot of color in them, many colored tops can be worn with them. Flip flops, sandals or flats are the right choice of shoe.
Where: Dinner, a movie, pretty much anywhere.
When: All season long! You can pair it with leggings, a sweater and boots in the winter. In the summer, flip flops and a tank top.
What: Skirts and dresses. In shorts it’s way too much color (especially if they’re short shorts). In shirts it’s all right, but you’d probably have a hard time finding a floral shirt.
The Trapper Hat Trend

I have noticed a budding trend: Trapper Hats. These hats are the ones with ear flaps, usually some (faux) fur and a pom pom on top. I love them!

Sequins

Sequins are lining up to be the fall’s biggest trend. I love them. They’re so glam, and so chic!

Once in a while, a trend comes around that I just don’t like. Jean leggings, or jeggings, is one of them. Unfortunatly, jeggings have become so popular that they are hard to ignore. Hence the post.
How to spot a trend

How do I always know what the next hottest thing is? For example, nautical stripes, I mentioned them on my blog and now they’re all over sites like luckymag.com.
It really isn’t that hard. You just keep your eyes open, read a lot of fashion magazines, and if you’re stuck in a place for a long time, you people watch.
What’s the next trend? Floral is still in, but beach season is approaching fast. Trends there still remain to be seen, but I’m hoping for cutout one piece bathing suits. Military style things? Possibly. Polka dots? Definitely.
How to wear all of these trends together? You don’t.
Polka dots don’t match floral, military style + polka dot = disaster, and cutouts remain to be seen what they match with.
Here is a Polyvore set to show you how I think some trends should be worn.
I’ve got an “Empire State of Mind”

I was in New York City, a fashion capitol, home to 8 million people, and my favorite city.
I was humming Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind” with the lyric:
“These streets will make you feel brand new/
The lights will inspire you/
Lets’ hear it for New York, New York, New York” (from Metrolyrics.com)
I went to see the Intrepid, a WWII aircraft carrier, and (of course) to scope out the trends. Since the weather wasn’t that nice, I was wearing my very unfashionable Disney poncho. But hey, it kept me warm.
Onto the trends. I saw a lot of tights with skirts and boots. Also, rain boots. Which makes sense, based on the awful weather.
Like these two rain boots.
I like the style, but I like my FUGGs better.
I also peeked my head, windblown bob and all, into Macy’s. A place like Macy’s is perfect for spotting trends. So, I saw a lot of ruffles, orange, and blue. Seems good to me, except the orange. To help you not over-ruffle (new word! Yay!), I’ve made this Polyvore creation for you.
