In today’s The Star, we’re told that Wanita Umno plans to reach out and touch someone — with tender loving care. This is indeed one of the calculated attempts to close the gap between the ruling BN coalition and the rakyat since the political tsunami of March 8, 2008:
KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita Umno has unveiled the “Sayang” project, a new community outreach programme to bring them closer to the public and serve their needs.
Under the project, Wanita Umno will carry out charity, community and volunteer work to serve the needs of the grassroots.
It will also be implemented by Wanita Barisan Nasional.
Wanita Umno chief and Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said welfare should come from the heart instead of big budget programmes.
“My ministry has spent RM457mil to help the poor. Now I want Wanita to give more of their heart,” she told reporters yesterday after the launch by the Prime Minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
