As the sweltering summer was slowly turning to another crispy autumn, the town was sucked into a brief heatwave, as if the summer was trying to harness its last resources to prove its power. The humidity forced most people to stay indoors and those who dared to open the front door soon found their skin sticky and thoughts scrambled.

Dear diary,

Unfortunately, yesterday (28 October 2006) I got into an accident as I was driving to the club. I have virtually no recollection of the events, nor do I seem to fully grasp what has happened, but I am certain that I am fine.

It’s been… ten hours now? I guess. I’m still waiting for the ambulance, sitting on the trunk of my Lada. I must have gotten some blood in my eyes. My vision is blurry and has this peculiar reddish hue. Also, my hair feels sticky and I heard a weird, squishy sound when I scratched my scalp.

Update: Seems there’s no more smoke coming from under the hood. I’m sure the car is still just fine. I can go to Shannon’s wedding with it next weekend.

I took a little stroll around the area. There seems to be no one anywhere. Also, my Nokia seems to have died.

I’ve come to realize that I can’t feel my left arm. But I’m sure that I’m just fine! I mean, I don’t feel dizzy or anything. Just a bit hungry. But the nearby diner seems to be locked up and there’s no one in there (I peeked in through the window).

Update: I don’t know what time it is. It’s still dark. It’s been dark this entire time so I guess it’s still night. Still no ambulance.

Update: Losing vision on right eye too. I guess I’m falling asleep.

Two months earlier, a mysterious man had moved into the building behind hers. As she climbed onto the neighbouring roof through her fire escape, the sky broke apart and a freezing rain fell down on her, soaking the little outfit she was wearing.
She was determined not to give up and turn around, and so she soldiered on, sneaking across the rooftop to the corner of the building where the mystery man lived. She pressed herself against the brick wall. Breathing fast, she turned to look around the corner.
Her blonde hair was clearly visible in the stormy night that was lit up by a sudden lightning. The mystery man yelled something through the closed window, his voice inaudible. As for her, her life was never the same again.
