Noetic Science

It is a widely accepted truth that Science has played a vital role in the evolution of human beings, development of lifestyles, answering basic questions relating to origin and also in developing many supporting fields which explain different aspects in the universe. Scientific study includes a certain process, a Scientific process, that includes different stages like hypothesis, experiments, results, theories and then a Scientific laws. And such process reaches an objective conclusion, taking into account only what physically appears and explains the world around us by external observation. Sometimes, during experiments, scientists perform experiments in order resolve a certain issue but it appears that something else gets discovered. Many discoveries in the history are done in this way. However, there is one such field of Science which has a hypothesis that consciousness matters, which is known as Noetic Science.

Now, we have two things which require explanation, firstly Noetic Science and secondly consciousness.

Noetic Science is defined as “A multidisciplinary field that brings objective scientific tools and techniques together with subjective inner knowing to study the full range of human experiences”  (IONS). Noetic Science focuses on mind body connections. As stated in the above definition, a connection is established between the objective scientific tools, which relate to a physical state, and the subjective inner knowledge which as a result forms a simple relationship between human consciousness and human experience. Hence, Noetic Science is acting as a bridge between two different ways of perceiving environment. The Noetic Science apply a scientific lens to the study of subjective experience and to ways that consciousness may influence the physical world, and the data to date have raised plenty of provocative new questions, as stated on the website of Institute of Noetic Sciences. Here the arise of proactive new questions may point towards both ancient philosophical questions, such as does anyone hears our prayers? Is their life after death? Do humans have souls? and also modern philosophical questions as can consciousness and awareness play a part in identifying possibilities, solutions and outcomes? Studies in Noetic Science have provided answers to many of such questions, however, proving such answers is still a difficult task because such high tech tools we need are not yet invented.

And consciousness means awareness, as how we perceive the environment around us, in other words it is an alert state in which we are aware of ourselves and our situation. Noetic Science believes that consciousness matters, as stated above, there are ways by which we gain knowledge of our world, first be the objective scientific method and second be the subjective and internal which includes gut feelings and intuitions for example experiences we have that cannot be explained or proven “rationally” but feel absolutely real. This way of knowing is what we call noetic.

All subjective—noetic—experience arises from physical matter, and consciousness is simply a byproduct of brain and body processes. Similarly, experiments have proved that human thought, if properly focused, has the ability to affect and change the physical mass, in other words, our thoughts interact with the physical world. Hence, a connection between outer world and “inner cosmos” giving us the ability to change our environment with the help of our thoughts. This is Noetic Sciences.

Large Hadron Collider: In high-end research, Pakistanis also playing their part.

Islamabad: Many Pakistanis may not be aware that their country’s contributions to some of the most important scientific experiments and discoveries in the world did not end with the late Dr Abdus Salam, the only Pakistani ever to win the Nobel Prize in Physics.

In fact, at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN), not only did electronics manufactured in Pakistan help in the detection of the Higgs boson, the elementary particle scientists believe imparts mass to all particles, Pakistani engineers and technicians are also currently participating in repairs of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the highest energy particle accelerator in the world.

Pakistan’s collaboration with CERN, the world’s largest particle physics laboratory, first started in 1994 through the efforts of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), said Dr Hafeez Hoorani, the director of research at the National Centre for Physics (NCP) in Islamabad. The NCP became a part of PAEC’s collaboration with CERN after it was established in 1999.

At present, the NCP is one of the hundreds of grid nodes in the world that receive scientific data from the LHC, which are being used by NCP researchers and students.

“We as a nation should be proud of the fact that today Pakistan is part of an experiment which is the most exciting and challenging experiments of all times,” Hoorani, who has worked at CERN himself, said. “This project helps our students get involved in cutting-edge research.”

The LHC collides two high-energy, unbelievably fast beams of elementary particles, so scientists can test scientific models on the interaction of subatomic particles.

The Higgs boson — until the announcement of its discovery on July 4, 2012, the Higgs was the only missing element in the Standard Model of Physics, a model that Salam contributed to through his work on electroweak theory — decays instantaneously, so scientists had to confirm its existence through particles formed by its decomposition.

One of those by-product particles, a “Muon,” is detected by the CMS and Pakistan has been a full member of the CMS experiment since 2000.

Hoorani said around half of the events detected by the CMS, which were consistent with the hypothesis of the Higgs boson, were observed using detectors made in Pakistan.

The construction of these detectors, called Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs), was made possible by the work of 15 physicists, 10 engineers, five Lasers and Opto-electronics experts, six computer professionals and 20 students from NCP and PAEC, Hoorani said.

The process included assembling and testing of 288 RPCs, the fabrication of mechanical pieces for LHC and the design of tracker alignment for the CMS. The PAEC also assembled carbon frames for the detector’s outer barrel at a cost which is approximately one-third of the European cost. In 2006, CERN awarded PAEC its Best Suppliers Award.

If that is not enough, two teams of Pakistani experts are participating alongside teams from Greece, Bulgaria, Poland and Italy in the LHC’s maintenance process that will continue till the end of 2014.

Twenty-eight people were selected from Pakistan after interviewing candidates from NCP, PAEC, the Heavy Mechanical Complex in Taxila and Precision Engineering in Karachi, Hoorani said. The engineers and technicians were trained at a mock-up facility at PAEC to familiarise them with the LHC environment and tools.

One six-member welding team and a six-member mechanical team have been working in Geneva, Switzerland, where CERN is located, since April on a nine-month shift.

NCP Director General Hamid Saleem said Pakistan is also trying to extend its collaboration with CERN in the coming months.

Published in The Express Tribune, June 22nd, 2013.

Moreover, Dr. Mansoora Shamim is an Ahmadi Muslim scientist working at CERN in Geneva Switzerland. Dr. Shamim is currently involved in the search for quantum black holes in the data collected by ATLAS in 2012. Since, July 2008, Dr. Shamim has been working as a post doc for the university of Oregon in Eugene. She is currently based at CERN working on ATLAS experiment, where she has served as the responsible person for data quality monitoring for tau trigger from 2009-2010.
So, in the world of technological advancements and scientific discoveries, Pakistan is not only equally participating, but also playing a major role in these advancements, for which we should be proud of, and we should also take certain steps to ensure that our next generations are also equally involved in scientific research in coming times.

Science and Religion

One of the epic and historic controversies, which involves certain disputes which changed the course of history over time to a great extent, which affected the definition of faith and which made us to reconsider our believes and faith, yes of course the dispute between Religion and Science. This historic dispute falls back into the 1600s to the time of Galileo Galilei, if we specifically talk about a dispute between Christianity and Science. But of course, in modern world, this dispute is not over yet, rather it has taken a different form.

From the beginning, when humans evolved enough to use the brain and made certain theories, the questions were also born with such evolution, the questions pointing towards their origin, how is this universe came into existence, how our Earth was born, why are we here and what is the purpose behind our existence. Man has been trying to get answers to each of these particular questions and some other questions too. For this purpose, Religion steps forward and tries to provide answers. Gradually, Science becomes powerful enough to compete Religion and provided mankind with more relevant answers along with the logic. But there is one Religion whose teachings are those of Quran’s, Islam. Islam tend to answer each and every question which mankind has asked of it’s origin. Quran, acting as a complete code of life, explains every aspect of life to mankind. This fact that, many Scientific laws and principles have been predicted long ago by Quran, has been admitted by many scientists all over the world. For instance, Quran says that the only reason mankind is created is that it worships it’s true Lord, Allah or God, one single God.

Whereas, on the other hand, Christianity failed to give answers to those questions and also gradually the true teachings of Jesus and The Bible were altered according to the wishes which led it’s followers to have belief in such wrong concepts that just took birth as a result of transmutation. Like, the birth of Jesus Christ could not in anyway be on 25th December, because we know that shepherds were in the fields watching their flocks at the time of Jesus’ birth (Luke 2:7-8)*. Shepherds were not in the fields during December. According to Celebrations: The Complete Book of American Holidays , Luke’s account "suggests that Jesus may have been born in summer or early fall. Since December is cold and rainy in Judea, it is likely the shepherds would have sought shelter for their flocks at night" (p. 309). And history shows that December 25 was popularized as the date for Christmas, not because Christ was born on that day, but because it was already popular in pagan religious celebrations as the birthday of the sun.

This was only one example, there exist many others which explain that Christianity fell prey to transmutation. So when such mistakes in their Religion were realized by some people, obviously there was some sort of opposition and therefore to maintain the faith of people in it, the Church took certain steps to ensure it’s strong position and to compete with such forces which were putting efforts to minimize the faith of people in the Church. Here at this point, the events of 1616 when the Church declared Copernicanism “false and erroneous” and commanded Galileo never again to “defend or hold” the doctrine and Galileo acquiesced. Stephen Hawking, in his book A Brief History of Time, writes about Galileo, “Galileo, perhaps more than any other single person, was responsible for the birth of modern Science. His renowned conflict with the Catholic Church was central to his philosophy, for Galileo was one of the first to argue that man could hope to understand how the world works, and, moreover, that we could do this by observing the real world.” Now when Galileo spoke of Copernican Theory, Church had to do something for it was under the pressure of Aristotelian professors, so the Church banned Copernicanism. This triggered another event which involves the establishment of a secret society of Scientists mainly, particularly in Rome, which vowed to fight against the brutal behavior of the Church with Science, and this society was later called as Illuminati. (As the historians tell us that the Illuminati Brotherhood is factual, so there are some misconceptions that relate conspiracy theories with Illuminati, but according to my viewpoint, Illuminati was a secret society comprising of scientists trying to change the way in which the Church was dealing with Science, of course subjective perception may vary.)

On the other side of the picture, lies the story of Science, which is producing miracles on daily basis and providing human beings with a lot of answers they have ever asked. As I said earlier, Quran had predicted many miracles and developments 1400 years ago, and to this fact many scientists agree. But science also opposed Religion in many cases, like modern theory of relativity. the works of Dr. Abdul Salam are extraordinary in this regard who formed the concepts of Quran as his basis for the unification of the two forces of nature, weak nuclear force and the electromagnetic force.

So the final words are, this historic conflicts raises many questions and yet there are many answers to find. But the point is that, Religion is nothing but a combination of beliefs, and Science proves such things which ultimately will guide us to a single source of force which keeps balance in the Universe, God. Science may have conflict with Genesis (Bible), but the form of this conflict is not relevant as God does what He wants. "Originator (is He) of the heavens and the earth; and when He decrees a matter to be, He only says to it ‘ Be’ and it is." (Al Baqarah 117)

(The aim of this blog is certainly not to prefer Islam over Christianity, but truth does not hide for long, the sole purpose of this blog is to convey information to the readers which I hope to be useful for them in any sense.)

  *Luke 2:7-8

“and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.”

Who is Nikola Tesla?

Who is Nikola Tesla?

The man who invented A/C electricity, AND tried to give it to the world for free.
He founded out that someone is using one of his patents, BUT he said, “Let him use them, he is doing good work.”
This guy literally invented the modern world and over 50 years before we could even figure out how to understand his inventions, let alone use them. This guy deserves all the credit he can get. All he wanted to make the world better.

A Glimpse at the Stars.

A Glimpse at the Stars.

This photo shows a night view from a high resolution telescope. However, if we look up in the sky in the night time, a large number of stars seek our attention. Some of then glow brightly but some are relatively dimmer. It is interesting to mention that many of these stars are dead now, but their light reaches our Earth after many million or billion years. So if you look at the stars now, think of this fact and you will be amazed. This is called space time which can be understood easily by reading Stephen Hawking’s book “A Brief History of Time.”

The Sunlight

As I have mentioned that I have a major interest in AstroPhysics, and I often read interesting and useful information about our beautiful Universe. So I read Stephen Hawking’s book A Brief History of Time. Along with some other interesting facts I came to know that it takes 8 minutes and few seconds for sunlight to reach our Earth.Image
