I might have been gripped by a serious sickness of mind (OK, that’s a bit extreme but you get what I mean)…I’m destashing some of my huge fabric collection. I don’t really make a lot of large quilts any more and when I do I use my favourite designers and neglect the rest of the stash. Throughout this week I’m uploading bundles and scrap packs to our webstore so if you fancy helping me lighten my stash, pop and have a look over there. As you’d expect there are lots of big name designers represented in the bundles. I’ve listed one large scrap pack so far which features all the prints I used in my You can go your own way quilt, mostly Anna Maria Horner, Tula Pink, Cotton + Steel and Jennifer Paganelli, so lots of gorgeous colour in there.

Pre-cut

I returned from a successful West Country Quilt and Textile show last weekend and have finally gathered enough energy to list some pre-cut paper piece kits in our Etsy store. These are the three designs that are currently available: Tessellated Madness, Louie’s Lattice and Beads.

Each kit contains enough pre-cut paper pieces to make the cushions as shown above without the need to re-use any pieces. The papers are a sturdy 160gsm which means they will hold up to re-use multiple times if you are careful with them.

I had so much fun sharing my love of EPP at the quilt show and I’m really excited to be able to put these kits into the online domain.

Mel from Sugar Bowl Crafts has been stitching up some magic with two of the kits, Tessellated Madness and Louie’s Lattice. You can find her progress over on Instagram.

I’m currently sewing up another version of Tessellated Madness using these gorgeous fabrics from Art Gallery Fabrics. I’ll share pictures of the finished project in due course but if you want to see it in progress you’ll find lots here.

West Country Quilt and Textile Show 2017

We’ll be heading south this weekend for the West Country Quilt and Textile Show. The show is running from 1st – 3rd September at the UWE Exhibition centre. You’ll find us on stand 125, so please do pop by and say hello if you’re in the area.

We’re really excited to be debuting our new pre-cut English Paper Piecing kits at the show. Here are a just a couple of them, Tessellated Madness and Louie’s Lattice.

Each kit contains enough pre-cut pieces to make a decent size cushion (approx. 18″ square, depending on the pattern) and the pieces are sturdy so should be good for multiple uses if a larger project is desirable. Below is an example of the pieces for Louie’s Lattice.

There are four blocks worth of pieces in this kit, so a cushion like this one is easily achievable in a very short space of time.

Fast flying geese

It’s been a busy month so far with ongoing preparations for the West Country Quilt and Textile Show featuring high on my to-do list. I’ve only just found time to edit this month’s From Nellie, with love BOM pattern. Month 8 features the Fast flying geese technique.

It’s a great, speedy technique for making four flying geese units at a time. This month’s project is a chevrons cushion.

Zippy

I can’t believe that more than half the year has passed already! We’re on month 7 of the From Nellie, with love BOM. This month we’re playing with a very basic Trapunto technique on this cute bow design.

This month’s project is a very pretty and functional zippy pouch. At 10 1/2″ x 14 1/2″ it’s the perfect size for toting your portable projects around with you and is very quick to make.

In reverse

It’s time for month 6 of the From Nellie with love BOM. This month we’re looking at reverse applique and adding two borders to our quilt top.

These cute flower blocks are really fun to make. At this half-way point it’s starting to get exciting now as we can really see the quilt top coming together.

This month’s companion project is a journal cover. A fun, speedy make ideal as a gift for your journal loving friends.

Scraptastic hearts

Slightly later than usual this month due to technical difficulties (laptop had a hissy fit), but it’s finally time for month 5 of the From Nellie, with love BOM. This month we’re featuring Crazy Patchwork and machine applique.

This technique is perfect for using up lots of scraps and a great excuse to try out your fancy machine stitches. This month’s project is a cute half apron.

Tripping

Slightly later than intended this month it’s time for the next installment of the From Nellie, with love BOM. The pattern for month 4 is now live in our Payhip and Etsy stores. This month features the Bargello/Tube technique.

This month’s project is a Christmas sack.

I’m looking forward to making these blocks up in my Paperie and solids version.

In bloom

On a rare dry day last week I braved life and limb to pin my From Nellie, with love BOM quilt to hubby’s new shed for a progress photo. Let’s just say that hubby was less than impressed that I dared to put pin holes in his new shed.

I am totally in love with the navy print from Paperie that I am using for the background, it makes the solids sing. I’m currently debating which colour to use for the first solid border, I’m drawn to the yellowy tone solid but as I’m still a bit unsure I’m going to wait until I’ve made the next 3 months worth of blocks before committing to it.

Louie’s Lattice

I’m working on a new EPP design called Louie’s Lattice. I often use names of family members for my designs so I thought it would be nice to share a photo of the lady behind the name of this new design.

Aunt Louie was a bold and intrepid woman who travelled across the Atlantic to Canada a number of times in the 1920s, returning to the UK as a seamstress. There are lots of strong women in our family and the roots of this strength go back a long way! I like to think that she’d be proud of the way the most recent generations of our family’s women are living.

I’m considering having acrylic templates and precut paper pieces made for this design. I love the immediacy of printing off my own paper templates but must admit that the cutting out stage is tiresome. I’d be very grateful for your feedback on this topic.
