Girls

Girls are awesome! I love being the mom of 2 and the aunt of 12, yes 12 of the sweetest things on earth. I have never been a girlie girl. Growing up I loved hard, alternative rock and wore boys clothes. My parents always teased that from the back, you couldn't tell the difference between me and the boys I would date (not that there were very many). My mom always kept a good attitude about it. "At least she is modest." I know she was dieing inside. I now know the value in finding clothes that fit and are in style. (Thank you Stacy and Clinton.) I'm not always a fashion plate but I try.

OK back to the real subject here. I love my sweet nieces. Last week one of my sisters went out of town. So we got to have a few extra girls around the house. Those days and nights were filled with dress up and pretend in girlie worlds full of flowers and sparkle.

One day they were bored so I got out sparkly puff balls, glittery pipe cleaners, shiny glue, and google eyes. I told them, "Go crazy!" They ended up each making a magic wand. They started doing spells on each other and things were getting a little heated. So I told them to come in my room and get in line. I dubbed them Magic Fairies and gave them each special powers and dominion over certain places in Magic Fairy Land. I told them they had to work together to keep their home safe from the goblins. They were all over it. There was team work and niceness all over the place. I went on with my day cleaning. I was in the kitchen and Lilly comes in and says, "Mom we need a snack." I said, "You need some fairy food?" She tells me "yes" and then says that they made up a name for what their food will be. I ask her what it is and she says, "Dinkle Berries!" She didn't understand why that made me laugh. That night we had dinkle berry steaks, dinkle berry roasted potatoes, and cucumbers (because fairies just like cucumbers) for dinner.

With a son that beats me up daily and a husband that is truly a man's man. Guns, sports, crudeness and all. I adore the girls in my life. I love how they want to make everything pretty. I love how they want everyone to feel good. But most of all I love that they don't even know what a dingle berry is.
