What's it all about, Alfie?

Sometimes, when the fun of nutting out a new design or pattern has well and truly worn off and I'm bogged down in the nitty-gritties of instruction-writing, when I just seem to be doing nothing but paying bills, or when I think about how I don't get home until late most nights and work most weekends, I wonder why I do what I do. And then I take a look in the Flickr group to see what you've been doing with my patterns and my book.... and I'm reminded that the rewards are in seeing what happens when my work is out there in the world, in your hands....And sometimes, you send me photos of things that you've made - and I love that, too.

Tracy came to my Wrap Skirt class last Saturday. She decided that she was more in need of a summer brunch coat (summer dressing gown) than another skirt, so she merged the wrap skirt with a basic (New Look pattern) bodice and came up with this elegant little number... She sent me a photo of it, all finished.

Even better than that, she discovered the joys of the bias tape maker!!!!

So thanks guys. Thank you for sharing. You make my day more often than you could possibly know.

PS. Did you see the new linky widget thing I have on my sidebar? If you don't have my book already, you can have a browse through a bit of it online. Apparently it's still a month or two away from being offered to overseas sales. I'm not sure what that means re:when it will hit the non-Australian online shops, but I'll keep you posted.

I haven't posted anything from my Flickr group lately, but I always check in to see what people are making.

I finally got around to putting the badge on the sidebar over there on the right, so we can all see the latest designs made by very talented people (using my patterns).

Don't be shy about showing off how clever you are.... just feel free to add your NMD bag photos to the group.

The week that was.... the week from hell. (Oh, and a spot of Flickr Friday)

Actually, the week has left me quite exhausted. I'm not sure if I can face re-capping the whole ordeal....

Here are some pretty pictures from the Review Round-Up Flickr page instead.

This 75mm Purse Frame Purse is from the Accidental Crafter. See the review HERE.

And these are from Purses by KP. Lovely Baguettes... reviewed here.

And something that made me laugh this week.... if you haven't seen Gypsy's post about my berets, have a peek over here....

PS. If you have the time to do a review of one of my patterns, you have ONE WEEK left before voting begins for the Review Round-up competition!!!! See here for details.

Review Round-up Update

This is also a bit of Flickr Friday..... but taken from the Review Round-up group.

I love this version of the Party Purse, made by Fiona. You can see the special story behind this purse on her blog HERE, and read her review of the pattern HERE. Fiona has written a few other reviews of my patterns on Pattern Review HERE.

"The other" Fiona has reviewed the hat pattern here.

And Bel has just started a blog (WELCOME TO BLOGLAND, Ms Bel!), and kicked it off with several reviews.... you can read them and see the pictures HERE.

If you'd like to write a review and be in the running for a $100 voucher (or a $50 or 2 free patterns), you can read all about our Review Round-Up competition here. You'll also see lots of links to reviews (that you may like to vote for at the end of the month!).

Flickr Friday

I've been busy making things that are all hush-hush and secret-squirrel-like. Since I can't show you what I'm doing, I thought I'd dive into the Flickr pool and pull out a few things that took my fancy. This is what other clever folks have been doing with my patterns...

I'm so in love with this Small Slouch bag by "the other Nikki". It's a great Thea and Sami print and I love the way that Nikki has used it. She blogged about it here....

I'm also loving this Beach Bag by Kyles 72.
Great use of hardware and topstitching, Kylie... and I'm always a fan of a belt detail!

Really, truly love it.

Really truly wish I'd thought of the bow detail myself.

You can read about this one on the Ruby-Jo blog.

I'm so inspired by the wonderful things people do with my simple patterns, and really appreciate you sharing your photos on my Flickr group. Check out the other folks in the pool here.

...and have a lovely weekend.

Flickr Favourites Friday

I've been looking through the photos in our Flickr group pool - marvelling at all the beautiful work done by people using my patterns. It's truly inspiring. Here are just a few from the group...

Beach bag by Marilla in Sweden. (Photo by www.studiolighthouse.com photo/copyright : roger schederin tel 0046 70 515 46 70)

Evening bags - (one of them has been slightly elongated) by Kathy from the USA.

Laptop Bag by Sarah from NSW (Australia).

If you've made a bag (or bags) using my patterns and would like to share how clever you are, you can join our Flickr group (if you have a Flickr account) or simply email your photos to us and we'll upload them through the nmdcustomers account.

I've received some lovely emails this week from people who have wanted to show their appreciation for my patterns and for what they have done to help improve their sewing and bag-making skills. Since this was the original concept behind my range of patterns, it's rewarding to hear that it's working. Thanks guys - your support and appreciation has brought some light into otherwise dark days!

It's over here.... Feel free to join or add your creations (made with our patterns and/or bag bits) to it. If you don't have a Flickr account you can send us your pictures and we'll upload them from our "NMD Customers" account.

Now... can anyone tell me where I can find a tutorial on how to do one of those multiple Flickr photo thingames...(montage? ...collage... mosaic...?...Did I mention my brain has given up for the day?). I know I've seen a tutorial somewhere, but can't remember where. Once I learn how, I'll try to regularly showcase what's going on in the bag pool.
