Giving it a Chance

Yesterday was my date! I kept an open-mind because my “old” crush is my “new” crush hahaha, but I don’t want to count my eggs before they hatch. There are so many fish out in the sea, and I’m still single. Then I started thinking how I never had a romantic attraction to this friend of mine who asked me out on a date. Well, I was talking to my roommate about it and we both ended up agreeing that I should just give it a chance. And if there’s nothing there, then at least I had a free dinner!

Hmm... what kind of women did I want to be that night?

I realized I had no idea what I wanted to wear – I think we all can relate here. Usually I just throw something on, but this was not any old day! This was when I decided I needed a basic black dress. I have a few, but one that I have in mind is a simple body-hugging one with long sleeves and a scoop neck. I quickly looked through the Lucky magazine my roommate gave to me. I needed IDEAS! I finally settled on some black skinny jeans and these…

He called me to tell me he was in front of my place, so I quickly went to my perfume shelf and spritzed on the first scent I spotted – Chance; because I was going to be taking one!

We went to an eco-friendly restaurant called Balliceaux. It opened up not too long ago and it’s already gotten tons of rave reviews.

One of my friends, to my surprise, ended up being our waitress!

My date and I talked away and we totally forgot to look at the menu. Then we realized we should’ve been figuring out what we wanted to order. I spotted something on the menu right away, but he had trouble choosing. I found out that he’s also a vegetarian!

Look at the papadum shell for the cauliflower! I was very content with my order. I got an array of flavors and for me, that’s the best way to eat. In the back is the bread with olive oil they gave us. In the far back is the Edamame and Plum Lead salad he ordered. I had to contain my laughter when was ordering it, no offense to salads! I love them, but really? Too funny! When they came out with the salad he ordered something else to go with it; that’s more like it! He ordered a small platter of olives, spiced nuts, and fried sage leaves. The sage leaves were incredible! I never would have thought to do that. The presentation and design at Balliceaux is absolutely beautiful. Everything is obviously thought out. I remember talking to my friend, our waitress, about the place and I said, “I can tell that somebody’s dream came true.” I really got that feeling from this place. Wonderful!

When we were done with our meal my friend asked if we wanted dessert, then she said “treat’s on me.” Pass me the menu please!

Pumpkin pie

Pumpkin pie

Oh my gosh! My first slice of pumpkin pie this season and it was divine. Definitely not too sweet, and everything a pumpkin pie should be. On top they garnished it with a sort of candied butter bark.

All in all, the date went well. My camera actually died at the beginning of the date, but I rubbed it for good luck so I could take a picture of the dessert. And it worked! Anyway, when he dropped me off we hugged good-bye. There were no sparks – for me anyway. I don’t believe in leading people on so I tried to be friendly in a “just-friends” way. I sometimes find myself with my head in the sand when it comes to getting to know people. I had been severely hurt in past relationships, and I became very cynical. However, now I’m trying to find a balance between “learning from my past” and just enjoying what is now. So like I said earlier, I gave it a chance!
