Swim Team

I decided that instead of signing the boys up for some summer sport they didn't totally love and excell in, I would sign Mikey and Roger up for Swim Team. Best choice.

There was the option of practices 5 times a week, but only required 2 if they wanted to swim at the meet that week. This allowed them to have a fun, scheduled practice time, but if we needed a day off or had other plans, it was totally okay.

The boys did so good. It was fun to see their progression through the season. Mikey was a work horse. He would practice whatever he was told to practice. Roger tended to be the more dreamy one, taking his time and such.

Roger was really good at swimming under the water (not surprising since all of his swimming teachers up until now have been constantly asking him to not swim under the water). At one particular meet, Roger swam more than half the pool under the water. The man announcing the meet stated that he had never seen a 6 year-old swim under water that far. When we watched the swimming portion of the Olympics, I felt that maybe Roger was onto something.

The boys did swim team with one of their best friends, Samuel.
Samuel is Mikey's age, and his personality is a lot like Roger's. They did Joy School together and have always played very well together. Needless to say, they had fun.
I am very grateful for Todd. As part of the requirements for Swim Team, the parents have to volunteer to help out at a certain number of meets. Todd ended up working for all of the ones I signed up for because things with Evelyn didn't quite go as we had planned.
Roger's coach, Kaylee, was incredible. She was a teenager that was helping out with Roger's age group and took a liking to him. She was perfect for him. She was patient, kind, and always demonstrated that she loved him, something which Roger thrives on. During the meets that I was not able to come because of Evelyn, and Todd was volunteering, Kaylee would hang out with Roger and take care of him. I was incredibly thankful to her for her help and support.

You know you're married to a doctor when

you are walking into the hospital and your 5 year-old sees this truck
and says "Oh, that's the truck that brings the staples for the doctors to put in people's heads"

Roger is 7

Roger turned 7 this year. What a great kid, and what a great 7 year-old.
Roger is such a sweet kid. He loves people and loves relationships. Even as a young child, Roger demonstrated that people were important to him. He was always very aware of how his brothers were doing and feeling emotionally. Because of this, his brothers easily bonded with him and I attributed the fact that my boys always played so well together was because of Roger bringing them together.  He is always willing to make sacrifices for others to be happy and feel involved.

Because he is so social, Roger can be a little bit of a "party animal". If Roger's involved, it's a party. Roger use to have his own bedroom for it was the only way that we could prevent having him keeping another boy up all night. Of course he hated this, always asking to have someone share a room with him. Now he shares a room and I do have problems of whoever is in his room staying up later than I would like.

All of this is not helped by the fact that Roger is a night owl. He can stay up very late. Even if he is in a bedroom by himself, he will stay up late. He will be up for hours playing with any toy he can find, or doing his favorite thing, reading.

Roger is a very good reader and has always enjoyed it. He will devour books. He will read anything he can find. He is often distracted from what he should be doing because he wants to read whatever he can find. Whenever I find him not finishing a chore, it is because he has been distracted by reading a near by book or magazine.
Though it can be difficult to get Roger to focus on finishing a cleaning task, when he is focused and motivated, he is my best cleaner. He understands order and puts things away very nicely and neatly. There have been many times that he is the one I trust with certain tasks, especially when they involve potentially messy materials.

Because of his attention to order, Roger's pennmenship can be very neat. He will spend extra time with his writing, but will be sure to make it look better.
Roger loves animals. He wants to be an animal doctor/scientist when he grows up. I think it has something to do with how tender he is. He will have one lucky wife when he gets older for he is always saying and doing the sweetest things. I have told Todd many times that he needs to just repeat what Roger says to me. Roger is totally sincere with his comments, too.

Roger is a very emotionally honest kid. If he is feeling something, you know about it. Because of this, he can be a poor sport, but I am grateful that he is always attempting to control himself.

Roger is never deliberately disobedient, he just gets distracted or thinks his idea is better. He responds very well with reasoning, and though he will get distracted, he usually tries to be obedient.
Roger has always tried to be healthy (and righteous). He loves healthy foods, vegetables are his favorite.

Roger loves, loves, loves babies and little kids. He will get down on their level and either kiss on them, or play with them. He loves to make them laugh, and they love him in return.
I will often find Roger wearing funky things, especially when he is playing. I love to see his imagination and carelessness to what others may think.

I should put Roger in gymnastics for he does have some incredible natural talent. He will climb up everything. He loves doing flips on the trampoline. He does this all the time
His birthday was on a Sunday, we had the traditional Birthday Breakfast, but had to be dressed for church first.

After church, he opened his presents.

Roger is such a good, righteous boy. He truly strives to do what is right, and for the right reasons. I am often in awe of his wise understandings. He has taught me so much about love and God. I am so grateful to have Roger in our home. He blesses me, and is a huge blessing to his siblings.
I love you Roger.

Newborn pictures 2

I had already gotten newborn pictures of Evee, but then a Groupon deal came up for newborn pictures to be taken in your home (which I absolutely love). I hadn't gotten my other ones back yet, so I wasn't sure how they turned out, and not wanting to miss out on having some good pictures of my girl I took advantage.
I'm glad I did for Emmy, the photographer, was great. She was super nice, and ultra patient. She was only supposed to be with me for an hour, but since Evee wouldn't stay asleep, she was at my house for two hours. Plus Emmy and I have some similarities. Her husband is in his 4th year of medical school to become an ER doctor, she has 5 children, and she's LDS! If anyone in the Cleveland area wants a good photographer, visit her site, beoriginal.com She really is great and has awesome prices, and you get the proofs with the price (can't beat that)
