Long weekend, lot’s of news, important ones.

Let’s start with probably the most important one: stem cells – in here – this will open a huge door to research and to development. There are dangers of course, but the only way we can solve some disseases like cancer is by researching, a lot. Obama overturns Bush narrow sight, and move foward , it’s just anotehr step… Foward!

China is moving forward as one of the worlds top countries in the next few years, and violence seem to be back again in the Northern Ireland – The future has a lot of question marks on it. The way the world we live is changing, our chalanges are new every second. Here is a great presentation to make you think about that. It’s a must see!

Next Sunday we will be celebrating the Woman’s international day. It was a very important landmark a few years ago, now I guess society is a lot more equal and opportunities are given in almost a even way between man and woman.  Of course there are some exceptions, and there still is a long way to make, but i rather remind us all about the important role woman have to assume and are assuming everyday more in our world.

who-is-hillary-clinton

Two woman take an important part in USA politics nowadays, Hillary Clinton, of course, after last year amazing presidential run, is now USA Secretary of State, and even yesterday performed an important role in bringing the USA and Russia together, after many years apart. Sure a man could do it also, I  just have think it couldn’t have done it better.

s-michelle-obama-large

Another example came to us yesterday directly from the white house. Michelle Obama left the president’s house and spent lunch helping to feed homeless in Washington. Miriam’s Kitchen is one of the organizations providing meals to homeless in the capital’s area. In this economic downturn, nothing like an example of service to the community to point the way. Sure it’s no huge deal, but the question is, has any other first lady done it before? Don’t think so.

More relevant then being the Woman’s day, is to make each day an opportunity to have great woman taking their place in our society, and there are a few. These are just two of them.

What do we do when a dictator dies ?!?  Should we cry? Be sorry for the loss of a life?  The truth is that Nino Vieira and João Baptista Tagme Na Waie (they both died violently in the last days, and are both pictured below) are the main responsible for the situation in Guine Bissau.

conflict1

Guine Bissau is one of the 5 poorest countries in the world, they are independent for almost 40 years and since there, it’s been civil war, military coup, poverty, corruption and drugs business. These two men were killed by each other military. But the way things were going, these deaths are provably a good reason for a ordinary person to smile. What comes next? The next few days will be remarkably decisive. This small, 1.5 million population, placed between Senegal and Guinea, never had a chance since their independence in 1974. Maybe this will be it.guinea-bissau

Nothing to be sorry for in these two deaths, their lifes caused many more death, poverty and dispair then one can imagine. Maybe this will be a new dawn for Guinea Bissau.

I hope so.

I’m sure for some republicans the title of these kind of news will be “Obama Keeps war until end of 2011!” but the times schedule is quite feasable and even Mccain agree on it.

Not a victory, it’s only a start, b ut never the less, another firm step towards a honeste and firm answer to the world we live in today. From now on , the war has a end date. Iraq will be at last is own ruler.  In the first 100 days Obama is facing most of the problems witout fear, or lobbys, or economic interests.  The world is greatful.

WAR IRAQ US MILITARY

I know this seems like an empowerment of Obama, almost to positive. I’m sure we will, on the way, make mistakes. But this start of term is really thrilling for me.

My main curiosity now is to see who republicans will send in on TV, after that Jindal joke, maybe it’s time Rush Limbaugh to step in. Where are you Rush?

Tonight a different direction in American politics: Bush asked America’s youth to fight for the Country, Obama asked them to learn for the country.  Huge contrast.

Change means three vectors: Education, Health care and economy. Wonderful speech, great strenght and another step ahead in this new direction.

Poverty.

You can say Slumdog Millionaire’s win yesterday had nothing to do with politics, but i sure disagree. I’m not saying they won because of backstage, well all movies have a strong backstage aproach, but the truth is that what Slumdog Millionaire pictures is the crude reality politics should be fighting.

child-stars-of-slumdog-mi-001

Everybody seems to have wake up to the world needs in the face of the economic turmoil, but the dificulties were there from decades ago. Slumdog Millionaire is a shocking, disturbing movie.  The caracterization of Mumbai’s slum is made is a brutal, hard, down to earth way. Maybe they couldn’t have done otherway.

The dispair, the deep poverty, the lack of basic conditions to dignified life, makes this slum a horrid place, maybe we could talk about the brazillian “favelas” or the african populations escaping from war or hunger, displaced from their origins.. but basicly we are talking the same: poverty. The society as we know it is not sustainable while we don’t take care of this problem – poverty cannot be a frequent picture in a developed world!

Sure you can go arround, and say economy is hard right now, but while you continue to tolerate fiscal paradises, and off-shores, you are being a part of it. Globalization doesn’t have to be a bad thing, but globalization without a social conscienceness is a ver hard picture to look at.

That is is waht Slumdog Millionaire brought to us on film. It’s not just india, Mumbai, or Brazil.. it’s in the street right next to you – while we don’t take the job of facing this issue honestly.

The path

Most didn’t believe possible when Obama took office, but now it seems the words had a meaning… Obama want’s America talking with Iran, with mutual respect, trying to easy away, most of the tension between the two.

bandiera20di20pace

Don’t ilude yourself, we will not live to see a time where the two countries can be considered allies, it will not happen. But the world doesn’t have another chance – we simply could not tolerate this conflict to be solved with another invasion. These steps are lot more braver then seem in fist hand.

It’s finally an assurance to have a US president who doesn’t have problem saying he did a mistake (in the last 8 years how many times did Bush say he was wrong?) , and with the courage to talk to their enemies and try to build bridges that makes this world a lot safer.

If there is a path to peace, this is as close as it gets… wonderfull perspectives but a lot of work ahead. Keep going Barack Obama.

Yes, its truly amazing, i’m cracking myself up… Well the story is quite simple, vatican radio asked Daniel vasella the president of Novartis to have a program every week on their radio. Everything great until these guys found out Novartis produced condoms… It must be quite dificult to see that one of the major farmaceuticals are producing condoms…  A truly magnificent find from these idiots.

After knowing that huge sinn from Novartis, vatican radio canceled the invitation… The reason? well it’s obvious – they cannot let anyone who produces condoms talk on their radio… It’s against their religion…

F_317522_c6KHZ1f7HreolYV5FYUQNSGhVw1gLn

What is their religion, hard thing to tell… by the looks on this radio, their religion is based on censurship of anyone producing anything that saves lifes! Go figure 😦

The world keeps turning around and the economy still doesn’t seem to easy our minds. That’s the main story of the last few days, lot’s of jobs lost, major corporations losing a lot of steam. Economis seem to divide their opinions, either this is going to be a huge slump, one we never witnessed before, or this will start to come around this year. Either way, we are going to see this society a lot differently in a few months.

turmoil_s3

Social policies are demanded right now, and governments got it just a little too late. In Europe unnemployment is spreading around like a plague, and European Union has it’s first obvious advantage : the euro. Without it, many more Iceland’s would be bankrupt right now.

In the states, Obama didn’t have a good start, but one thing we have to grant him – he has had a honest one, and that is a lot more then we can say from the last US presidents. The stimulus plan is huge in amount and in importance to the entire world. The new paradigm has started; we simply still don’t have a clue about what it really is…

With Clinton on board Barack Obama start’s his mandate.

Sure the oath of office didn’t went very well, but the things that really matter started right away on his speech. His first speech as President of the United States of America show a lot of different things. obama-lincoln-cp-w6109957

I point out to 3 aspects of his speech, first of all, the tone was not a happy, celebrational one, but a tone that remembered each American of the difficulties ahead, second, the way he criticised George Bush with him sitting right next to him, on a ceremony where usually is nothing more then a huge party, shows a lot of spirit and will to chenge things arround.

artsignthugi

For me probably the most important reference in his speech, was the accepantance of the “non believers”, in which group I include myself. It means an openness not only to the “non believers” but most important then that, a truly meaningful intent to treat all peoples and religions beliefs as equal. It’s a great step. If you simply hear the speech you might not notice that, but those 2 words might mean a lot more to the world then all the rest of the text.

You can’t ignore that most conflicts nowadays have a profound difference in beliefs on his basis. For the first time the USA seem to head without any pre concepts to the path of respecting every belief.

These first 3 days were as expected, Guantanamo closed in a year, some interests in the middle east  Afghanistan and Pakistan. Nothing new, we can’t judge nobody for 3 days… but the prospects are untouched…

In the 44th inauguration, Obama is coming by train to washington. It’s not a win, it’s a start. I, as many of us in the world are hoping Obama can bring many different things to the USA administration. The train that whistle’s brings a new word to this century : HOPE. It’s a damm good word too.

artobamabidencnn

Can Obama live up to the expectations? We will see, but at the very least Barack Obama makes us believe again. Can a man change the world? Sure it can.

Meanwhile in Gaza, Israel is starting cease-fire tomorrow – how surprising…  let us not forget to get Israel responsables to Hague (charged with War crimes) – what occured in Gaza was not a war, was a criminal action against civilians.

If you have any question about George Bush 8 years, please see the video above, it’s a very well crafted summary of the last 2 mandates from Bush.

I just wish Al Gore could have won in 2004…

D939-023This piece of news can give us an idea of what happened in the last 8 years, now that George Bush is leaving, nobody gives a dam about him, and Ehut Olmert , Israel prime minister surely doesn’t give either.

In his last speech, he said that was a phone call from him that lead the USA president to order Condolezza Rice to vote null in a resolution that demanded the cease fire in Gaza.

Incredible? Yes, in the very least! Olmert said he demanded to talk to Bush ten minutes before the vote take place on the UN. Olmert said “when we saw that the secretary of state, for reasons we cannot understand, wanted to vote inn favour of the resolution, I tried to reach president Bush and they told he was in Philadelphia making a speech – I said to them – I don’t care, I need to talk to him now!”

“They took him out of the stage to another room and I talked to him” continues Olmert describing this surreal story. “I said to him: You cannot vote in favour of this resolution!, which he answered: lesson, I don’t know nothing about it, I’m not familiarized with the way the resolution is written” – Olmert replied that he was quite familiarized with the resolution and that the USA could not vote in favour – and they didn’t.

Bush ordered Condolezza Rice to vote null in a resolution that she helped to write, organized in favour and was lobbying to be approved.

This is an example of the way USA diplomacy has been acting around. This story was very funny, if it were not a war we are talking about. How came Israel prime minister give orders like this is such a sensible question? Amazing, really. Don’t bother saying goodbye to Bush, he has gone a long time ago from the white house…

This comes from this article here in huffington post; where Sarah Palin sends a message to the media saying that are giving Caroline Kennedy a free pass compared to what they said about her in the presidential campaign.

Well Sarah let me just tell you this I’M QUITE SURE CAROLINE KNOWS, AMONGST OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS,  WERE RUSSIA IS!caroline-kennedy

the thing that i still can’t understand, is how come Sarah palin is still motive to any kind of air time.

So, let me get this thing straight… after signing a peace deal on the UN, Israel prime minister says this “the U.N. resolution is not practical.”  and this “The state of Israel has never agreed that any outside body would determine its right to defend the security of its citizens. The IDF will continue operations in order to defend Israeli citizens and will carry out the missions with which it has been assigned in the operation.” So why the fuck did you sign it?

his goes further deep in the hole Israel is digging on the international community, they are disrespecting UN resolutions, they should be treated as such: war criminals. 2008-12-30-gaza41

I know it’s still 11 days until the new USA administrations takes place, and in 11 days many more innocent palastinians are going to be dead. And facing the inoperance of almost every nations or world organization, this outrageous mission is going to move on. The world awaits a firm answer from the USA, the big question is, what kind of answer can Barack Obama give? having in account the USA have always been the greatest ally of Israel,  things will most certainly stay the same. It’s shame on us all.

If i were a catholic i would have to say this first: “Forgive me god, for wich i’m about make a sin…”, but i’m not, so let’s move forward. If a few months ago you would say i would be doing this , i’d say you were insane, but he is the first world leader to make any sense in all the Gaza mess.

Hugo Chavez, he expels israeli embassator, takes a firm stand against what is happening in the middle east right now. Sure he is no saint, none of them are, but this guy seems to make more and more sense every time he opens his mouth. I wonder if it’s just me thinking that, hummm….arthugochavezafpgi

Sentences like “will not rest until it sees those responsible for these criminal atrocities severely punished”, or “condemns strongly the flagrant violations of international law” by Israel and “denounces their planned utilization of state terrorism” seem like obvious words for a political figure that’s has the guts, and has the willingness to stand for what is right. I’m just sorry he is the first one to do it.

The article on cnn, has this line from the venezuela president, “They are cowards,” he said. “It’s as though a boxing professional were to come here and challenge you to box. Well, how courageous! How courageous is the Israeli army!” – i couldn’t have putted it better.

Something is very wrong with the world, when it’s Hugo Chavez leading the way of justice, but never the less, I have to say, I’m with you Chavez, in this one at least!

070421-gaza-school

When you attack a school where people were hiding from war, just to try to kill 3 Hamas members, killing 40 innocent people, you are not trying to end Hamas, you are trying to subjugate a people by the power of death. If you want to kill 3 Hamas operatives in a school you don’t throw the school down , you send snipers and it’s easier, more reliable and smart. Israel is not fighting just Hamas, Israel is revenging on Palestinian people for not fighting Hamas also.

Seems like everybody is stepping in slowly, very slowly. Seems like this isn’t a war, it’s like just a fight between a couple and no one want’s to place his opinion in the middle. gaza-woman

seems like the world doesn’t exist – just a few whispers, cannot break this overwelming silence. What is the limit of our conscience?

Wich is the death toll we can bear in our memories?

It’s just like seating back, adjusting the pillow, placing the popcorn basket near you and start watching. It’s really bad. I would say it was not worth the renting, money if it were not the plain truth.

Israel has invaded Palestine, and like any of us, staring at the tv set every night, USA administration (whoever that is…) , the EU community, and the arab countries are also just watching this movie. gazawar

It’s plain unbelievable how come this would be possible nowadays. Of course Israel took advantage of a USA politics transition, and this ground war will be over before january 20th (that will be sure) – but with all the money the european community send in funds to the palestine in the last year, it’s painful to see all the infrastructure, now simply destroyed. For a tax payer like me it’s painful, i’m just assuming for the quiet, silent voices running the show in Brussels it’s painful too.

Gordon Brown tried to lead the way saying that this invasion could not be a solution, while the USA block all the possibilities of a resolution in the UN. For an average guy like me, this quietness is very disturbing. Of course nobody would send any forces to the region, that’s not the point, but nowadays there are ways to prevent and to dissuade the use of a war force.

What is happening in gaza right now, it’s quite sad in my opinion, but i did expect it to occur (have to be honest), what is really making me dizzy is the silence in almost all the world leaders about this situation.MIDEAST ISRAEL PALESTINIANS

Seems like everybody is trying to figure out if this will be a new lebanon or if the hamas will be severely blasted by this offensive, seems like everyone is trying to sit back and choose the winner to appear on his side. That’s not politics, that’s simply being afraid.

For my view, no war can solve any problem. No invasion will destroy Hamas, nor will it prevent any suicide bombings or rocket throwing to Israel, no war will no anything but to create more anger, more rage, more reasons of conflict in the middle east.

17greece-600One of the most important events in the last month of 2008 was the trouble in greece. It seems over, it seems the new year brought the so awaited peace in the greek streets, it was not only a simple gathering, the conflict was much more deep and it is far from solved.

This was not a simple protest against the death of a youngster by a police officer, to reduce the rage to simply that, is to make a huge mistake. That was only the ignition factor, the reasons behind all those days of protesting in the streets, those reasons are very deep not only in the greek youth, but in most of the civilized countries youth.

We are creating in each society a very large bulk of people, that are educated, have superior degrees, have high hopes , high expectatives in life, have the tools and the knowledge to do it, simply they don’t stand a chance. Why? because we simply don’t need them.

Our developing model has proven wrong – our youth are feeling it on their hopes, and as Jean Daniel , a french journalist said : “The worst evil of our times is the lack of hope, to live deprived of your future.” It started in greece, but 2009 will make it worldwide as usual, we have few time to place a new word in our youth vocabulary: Hope.

greece1

Otherwise protests will spread arround the so called civilized world. The thing called by so many as capitalism has started to colapse not only on wall street, but also on the minds that represent our future.

In 2009 something as to change. I don’t know what but we have to be able to place new, brighter horizons on our youth path.
