Meistersinger

Quiet days. Monday Sean at nursery and the same on Tuesday. The trip to Maidstone circle went well - nice Chinese meal. Tuesday to Gate cinema to see 2011 Glyndebourne Meistersinger. Alas I dropped off several time. The production excellent and Gerald Finlay and Alistair Miles shone. Back at 11.30. Watched Cameron's farewell. Home and to  Dulwich meeting which was good. Read New York guidebooks

Tuesday to Clapham picturehouse for 11 a.m. relay from the Met thrillingly conducted by James Levine in a wheelchair. The intensity of playing was amazing considering the opera last 6 hours with intermissions. The cast were excellent. Johann Botha has a fine tenor voice but is unfortunately rather large so his acting is minimal. Seán was on good form and enjoying having Mummy home although she had ...

Hymns in Welsh to sight read tenor part! Harp. Stuart Kale sang a special piece with choir by Brian Hughes. William Mathias Toccata Giocosa at the end. We were acolytes. What a joy to talk to 2 Belmont brothers and hear Dom Brendan is off to Syria this year. They knew my SSG articles and I urged them to attend PMM! To Tate Britain to see "Rude Britannia". This did not even raise a smile and the really rude bits were oddly unimpressive. An erection is just that - funny I suppose in a way. The video of Sarah Lucas the woman artist eating a sausage and a banana was intriguing. Preferred the 2 wonderful fighter planes in the Duveen gal...
