Tell us about your career:
I began my career in multi-family working as a leasing consultant at a student property in Raleigh NC. I spent 9 years working at the same property and continued to work my way up the ladder becoming the Community Manager. In 2015 I began working with Hawthorne residential partners as a regional support manager traveling throughout the portfolio supporting properties in need. In 2016 I transition to regional manager where I oversaw multiple assets over the course of seven years in that role. In 2023 I was promoted to regional vice president where I currently oversee properties throughout Raleigh Durham and Fayetteville.
What advice do you have for someone just starting in your field:
My advice would be to take your time learning the fundamentals of the business and focus heavily on customer service in your first couple years. Overall Multi-Family is a people business and the more positive impact you can make with the renters the better the business grows. One of the key phrases that I love is Loyalty is Royalty. In today's day and age there are a lot of opportunities and chances for people to take, however biding your time and honing your skills with a company whose core values you believe in will pay greater dividends in the future. Don't be eager to rush and jump into the next opportunity until you have mastered your current position. Lastly my biggest piece of advice is to seek out a mentor and connectors in the industry who you look up to and have been in your shoes. I have had great mentors in this business who have helped me succeed in every aspect of my career.
