One Month

Oh baby boy.  I cannot believe that it has already been one month and at the same time we can't remember life without you.  Your father and I are so in love with you.  This month has been so hard and so fun.

Because you were born with only one kidney, we had to deal with a lot of medical testing this month.  We hauled you to many doctors visits and had tests done at several hospitals.  It was exhausting.  It was rough on everyone, but especially your father.  He is very protective of you and hated seeing you in pain.  It has been very emotional for him.  Everyone has started to call him Apache, because he hovers around you like a helicopter.

We were able to fast and pray for you as a family during your testing.  Everyone participated; your cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and great grandparents.  All of the tests came back in our favor.  You only have one kidney, but it is a good one and there were no signs of reflux.  We are so happy and relieved.  We couldn't wait to get you off all of your antibiotics and medicines and stay at home and not have to worry about anymore doctors appointments.

You have had a lot of visitors this month, everyone was eager to meet you.  They all love you.  You have received an incredible amount of presents.  Every single day we are overwhelmed with presents from friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors.  It has been unreal.  Someone has also brought us dinner every night since you were born.  Everyone loves you so much that my phone doesn't stop ringing and I have finally had to turn it off.  You are a lucky guy.

At your two week checkup you were in the 25% in height, weight, and head size.  You are a small guy.    Although you are small, you are growing fast.  At two weeks you weighed 8 pounds 5 ounces and have grown 1 centimeter since you were born.  You grew out of all of your newborn clothes at about 3 weeks and you are starting to get chubby cheeks.

You are a good eater and a good sleeper.  For the most part you are very calm and easy-going, but when you are hungry...whew...you let us know.  Lots of screams.  You like your 3 hour schedule.  We have only had a few bad nights, because you have a sensitive tummy, but I have cherished our nighttime cuddle sessions (although I'm glad they don't happen every night).  Your dad loves to rock you and sing to you.  He is also very quick to change you, swaddle you, or help in any way possible.  We are both very lucky to have him.

I feel so lucky to be your momma.  I love to kiss your cheeks and watch you kick in the bathtub.  I have loved taking you and Teddy for walks with you in your carrier or stroller.  I have also loved going hiking with you and your dad (and of course Ted).  A few things I don't want to forget about this first month: your furry ears and shoulders, your nighttime grunts and snorts, your sleepy smiles, and that crazy hair!

This was a hard day.  I must have eaten something that upset you.  You cried all day, this was one of the rare moments when I got you calm and you would snuggle.

Miles loves you.
