I really didn't mean to go two weeks without blogging, but it just kind of happened. Sorry to everyone at Young Chevrolet who I have disappointed, I won't let it happen again. Christine tagged me a while back...so here you go.

What I was doing 10 years ago:

I was thirteen, I was in the prime of my awkward looking stage, just completed my first year in junior high school, spending every waking moment at Ballet West Conservatory or the Somerset Pool, ‘going out’ with Tyler Schultz… AKA passing notes in the hall {I wouldn’t meet Oliver for another year}, talking on the phone with Cat for 5 hours every night, Friday nights at Ju’s house using L.A. Looks Hairspray, making films about ‘Marc Davis’ on the weekends, picking food out of my braces after eating sandwiches, and terrified of getting boobs {luckily I never got them}.

5 Things on my to do list today:

Update blog.
Take silverware back to BB&B {it has started to rust}.
Visit Grandma Bertie at 5.
Make enchiladas for dinner.

Heli-ski at least once.

Nothing says home like asphalt and neon lights. I used to loathe the carwash, but now I think it is nothing short of the Taj Mahal. Pure luxury.

Thank You.

Over the past week I have been thinking about how blessed I am. I have it pretty easy. I need to put some of these items in print. I would like to say GRACIAS to the following:

* a mom who emails me everyday to tell me how excited she is about me coming home, and to go shopping for MY birthday.
* the amazing organization of the church; where ever you go in the world you have a family.
* an employer who says "work for us for a couple weeks and if you find something better, take the job."
* the USA, it is wonderful.
* a father-in-law who not only keeps us current on the snow report and the possibility of getting in a ski day when we get home, but also reminds us to RELAX and that everything will be okay.
* Ecuadorian ice cream.
* a sister who designs anything I ask her to {and doesn't act annoyed}, chats online, tells me all the latest, and lets me set up play dates two months in advance.
* Larry who checks our mail, and incessantly receives emails from us saying "did news from grad school come yet?"... and no, it hasn't come yet...
* a hyper husband who smothers me {and who sometimes says "we need to get you a wide-angle lens"}.
* getting 57 emails {not forwards} every day from the one girlfriend who can always make you laugh...and you always think you are going to die because you are laughing so hard.
* a father who now thinks it is hilarious to IM me.
* a university that gives us scholarships, hooks us up with amazing non-profits, and sends us on international adventures {even when you graduated the semester before}.
* a niece who has to talk to me on the phone every Sunday before she leaves grandma's, and every week she asks the same thing "when are you coming home?".
* a brother {and sister-in-law} who sit at the racetrack every week peddling tee shirts and checkered flags on our behalf.
* lifelong friends that send you links to Tele-Francais videos, and then say "this is what I do at home on the weekends when you are not here."
* the glorious internet.
* our couple friends who miss us.
* doors and windows of opportunity that continually open.
* a creative brother-in-law, who acts as my tech support and photography instructor and never gets mad at me.
* grocery stores in The States.
* a sister-in-law who keeps in touch, emails me birthday lists, and shares hobbies.
* living in a car wash.
* high-interest savings accounts.
* online shopping.
* a mother-in-law who is fun, supportive, non-judgemental, doesn't meddle in our marriage, and doesn't try to live her life through her children {seriously, perfect mother-in-law}.
* a girlfriend who goes out of her way to get you a good deal on designer clothes, and then ships it across the country...so that you can get it a few days before she will arrive by airplane {and the fact that this makes sense to her too}.
* being able to experience living in the Andes, something we never really planned on.
* a brother-in-law who goes to your apartment 3 times per week to read you off a credit card number, phone number, or checking account number.
* the globalization of the Snickers Bar.
* Skype.
* keeping in touch with cousins via blogs.
* that it is basically time to come home.

Wanted:

A delicious and easy Spaghetti Sauce and Meatball recipe.

The women in Ecuador are requesting that I teach them how to make Spaghetti Sauce and Meatballs before we leave. It all has to be from scratch, because they don't have Barilla or Ragu here. But I should be able to find all of the necessary ingredients and seasonings {unless it is Lowry's Season Salt or something like that}. I make Swedish Meatballs all the time at home, but I've never made Italian Meatballs. Can anyone help me? Please? Mom?

Utah's Right

Have you ever wondered how much your favorite Professor at the University of Utah makes a year?, What the curator of the UMFA brings home?, If you could actually support a family on a librarian's salary?, or What the highest salary of a Utah State employee is?...well search no further. Our friend, Greggers, gave us a visit last night and told me about a really interesting website called Utah's Right. You can look up the salary of any employee that works for the State of Utah {ie, any U of U employee [including U of U Hospital], public school employees...anyone}. The theory behind it is that taxpayers have the right to know where their tax dollars are being spent. So chances are if you work for the state, I know exactly how much money you make.

Utah's Right, invading citizens' privacy one website at a time.

Tent Outfits

Will someone please tell me what Oprah was thinking when she put these monstrosities on her "Favorite Things" list? I thought it was a joke at first {some sort of SNL skit}, but it isn't. I mean I like camping and all, but I would never actually wear a tent. Sorry Oprah, I am disappointed in you - these outfits are a bad idea... a very, very BAD idea.

11.25.2007

Long Weekend Update.

We had a fantastic weekend full of family, friends, and celebrations. The best part was not thinking about school or work for the entire weekend.

Highlights:

*Having an ultimate slumber party with the grandkids, which involved a pillow fight at midnight.
*Ian & Kelsee getting sealed.
*Running a 5k with Megan
*Teaching the grandkids to rock climb, and Brighton swinging fearlessly on the ropes like Tarzan.
*Thanksgiving Dinner {nuff said}.
*Shopping.
*Going to the BYU vs. Utah Game {thanks Dad}
*Two Movies in one weekend.
*Urban Outfitters.
*Girls Night Out.
*Watching Easton pick out the perfect Bionicle, it was hilarious.
*Lots of time with Oliver.
*Ikea.
*Baby Beau took his first step at his first b-day party {and it was all because of Oliver}.
*Hearing the belly laughs of all of the nieces {including Hadles}.
*The ski season is nearly here...I can feel it.
*Two babies on the way {Maeve & Nicole}.
*Asking Easton what he wants to be when he grows up...response: "Zookeeper" - naturally.
*No sitting in traffic for four whole days.

Lowlights:

*Getting peed on in our sleep by Jazzy {we were dog-sitting} - I have never seen so much urine in my entire life. I am over dogs for the time being.
*Having to say goodbye to the babies.
*It went by way too quickly.

Thx.

Yesterday Oliver was talking on the phone with his mom {his parents have been out of town this entire month, so they were catching up}. He was downstairs, but he was talking loud enough that I could hear his half of the conversation very clearly from the inside of our apartment upstairs {really this is just a good excuse for eavesdropping}. He was discussing all of our upcoming plans, dreams, maybes, educational goals, internships, and adventures with Sherry. These are things that Oliver and I talk about on a daily basis, but as I was listening to him I realized A.) how completely crazy we are to even consider some of our dreams, and B.) how incredibly lucky we are to have so many options and everything within grasp. I am very thankful for not only everything that we have, but also for the many windows that open up to us on a daily basis. We are so lucky to have so much support from both of our parents, siblings, friends, fellow ward mates, professors, and colleagues.

Oliver's dad once said something to us that I am pretty sure I will remember all of my life. In our quest to be an independent married couple, he simply said to us "everyone is dependent on someone." I know that in 50 years when we look back at our life milestones, we will know that our work and decisions had very little to do with our own success, but rather we will be thinking of all of the wonderful people who helped us along the way.

Thank you for all that you do. We hope that everyone has a warm and wonderful holiday, Happy Thanksgiving.
