In 1st grade, each student gets a turn to be star of the week. Each day is something special. One of the days is parent praise day where the parent sends a sealed envelope with a letter/story/poem/pictures/etc. to school and the teacher reads it to the class.
I had planned on doing something elaborate (ha) to make Leah feel special but that just wasnt the case. So the night before I sat down and wrote a story about Leah real quick, involving all the things she loves so much.
(jewels, horses, fairy tale lands, animals, family)
It was a huge hit.
She reads it every night.
And that makes my heart smile.
Leahs Story::
Once upon a time, in a kingdom far away and in the greenest, warmest, sunniest place you ever knew of, lived a young, beautiful, kind girl named Leah. Leah had beautiful sun kissed skin, light brown shoulder length hair, a small cute nose, and the biggest brown eyes that sparkled when she smiled.
She lived with her mother, father, brother, and two sisters in a small cottage with flowers that grew on the roof and 3 goats named Mildred, Mungus, and Marmel that roamed in the front yard.
Each day after her chores were done, Leah would take carrots and oats to her horse, Expensive. She would comb and clean his mane while he munched on his lunch. When he was finished, she would climb on Expensives back and they would ride down to the beautiful flower filled meadow with a stream by a pear tree where the fish jumped and frogs croaked and she would cool her feet in the clean crisp water.
One day, as she was watching the fish jump and catch the flies, she noticed a bright reflection in the water. Looking closer she noticed it was something red and dipped her hands in the water to retrieve it. She pulled out the most beautiful red ruby she had ever seen! Leah thought to herself, “I could keep this and add it to my collection and own the prettiest jewel in the world!” But then she started to think of how it had gotten there and guessed that someone (probably very important) had lost it.
That night, after a yummy dinner of porridge and blackberries, she told her parents about the treasure she had found. They had been in to the town nearby that day selling the tools that her father, who was a Blacksmith had made. They had read the signs for the lost ruby of the princess! The princess had accidentally lost the ruby her grandmother, Queen Patricia had given her when she was out for a ride and was very very sad.
Leah returned the ruby to Princess Scarlet . Who was also a little girl her age. They became very good friends. Princess Scarlet had a horse name Sir Tucker, who also liked oats and carrots very much. So the new friends spent their days taking care of their horses, riding to the meadow, munching on sweet pears and picking flowers to make flower headbands. It was a splendid life!
The End.
