Smile time

After the last serious posts here is something to have a smile for!

Police in London have found a bomb outside a mosque..
They’ve told the public not to panic as they’ve managed to push it inside.

============================================

During last night’s high winds an African family were killed by a falling tree.
A spokesman for the Birmingham City council said “We didn’t even know they were living up there”.

=============================================

Jamaican minorities in the UK have complained that there are not enough television shows with minorities in mind, so Crimewatch is being shown 5 times a week now.

=============================================

I was reading in the paper today about this dwarf that got pick pocketed.
How could anyone stoop so low.

=============================================

I was walking down the road when I saw an Afghan bloke standing on a fifth floor balcony shaking a carpet.
I shouted up to him, “what’s up Abdul, won’t it start?”

=============================================

A Muslim dies and finds himself before the Pearly Gates..
He is very excited, as all his life he has longed to meet the Prophet Mohammed.
Having arrived at the Gates of Heaven, he meets a man with a beard.
“Are you Mohammed?” he asks.
“No, my son. I am Peter. Mohammed is higher up.”
And he points to a ladder that rises into the clouds.
Delighted that Mohammed should be higher than Peter, he climbs the ladder in great strides, climbs through the clouds coming to a room where he meets another bearded man.
He asks again, “Are you Mohammed?”
“No, I am Moses. Mohammed is higher still.”
Exhausted, but with a heart full of joy he continues to climb the ladder and, yet again, he discovers an even larger room where he meets another man with a beard.
Full of hope, he asks again, “Are you Mohammed?”
“No, I am Jesus… You will find Mohammed higher up.”
Mohammed higher than Jesus!
The poor man can hardly contain his delight and climbs and climbs, even higher. Once again he reaches a larger room where he meets a man with a beard and repeats his question:
“Are you Mohammed?” he gasps as he is, by now, totally out of breath from all his climbing
“No my son…..I am God. But you look exhausted. Would you like a coffee?”
“Yes, please, my Lord.”
God looks behind him, claps his hands and calls out: “Hey Mohammed, two coffees !!!!”

Genocide

victim of farm murder

Victim of farm murder

Looking through the papers for the last week I see the following press release below didnt feature at all. Not even a peep out of the SABC either.

SAD!

It is no longer just white farmers that are being murdered in South Africa. Now the deaths are starting to include black farmers who obtained farms under the infamous land claims as well.

It is easier for some politician or ANC ‘heavy’ to have a farmer murdered, and then buy the farm for practically nothing, than to have to go through the process of buying it on the open market at market related prices.

MEDIA RELEASE

Issued by: TAU SA
Enquiries: Mr. Henk van de GraafAssistant General Manager: TAU SACel. 083 411 8229
date: Thursday February 9, 2012

International Community takes notice of farm killings in SA

TAU SA is experiencing an increase in enquiries from international institutions about murders on farms in South Africa.

This is mainly as a result of a visit by TAU SA’s Assistant General Manager: Communications, Mr Henk van de Graaf, to Europe. Mr Van de Graaf arrived back after a week long information tour focussing on violent crimes on farms. The highlight of his tour was a visit to the European Parliament where he was the key note speaker at a public meeting of European Parliamentarians. During his presentation Mr Van de Graaf pointed out that circumstances in South Africa are even worse than in Zimbabwe. In South Africa 1 554 farmers have been killed on their farmscompared to 24 on Zimbabwean farms. “Institutions like the EU imposed personal sanctions against Mr Mugabe and members of his cabinet. Perhaps the EU should consider imposing personal likewise sanctions on mr Jacob Zuma and members of his cabinet, for not doing enough about this problem. Farm murders in South Africa also need to be declared a crime against humanity,” Van de Graaf said.

“A short extract of the documentary film ‘War of the Flea’ was also shown to the parliamentarians. Especially Steve Hoffmeyr’s remarks on genocide underline TAU SA’s point of view on this issue,” said Van de Graaf.

After the visit to the European parliament, and the handing in of a genocide charge against the South African government at the International Criminial Court in The Hague, international media and social networks took more notice of the situation regarding murders on farms in South Africa. Subsequently TAU SA’s offices received reports of planned actions in several countries, not only in Europe, but also in Australia, Canada and America.

TAU SA’s SMS-line for support to victims of farm attacks, is also performing well. Members of the public can make a R10 donation by sending the message TLUSTOP to 48716.

Internasionale gemeenskap neem kennis van SA Plaasmoorde

TLU SA ontvang tans toenemend navrae vanaf internasionale instellings oor plaasmoorde in Suid-Afrika.

Another thing that is very worrying is the attacks bein made on elderly people. Just today there was a report on a 71 year old lady being sliced up. Yesterday there was the report of a 69 year old being raped in front of her grandchildren and so it goes on. What barberians have we let loose in our country?

FLORIDA COURT SETS ATHEIST HOLY DAY

This posting was done some time ago and I was reminded of it again when one of my co-workers once again started this endless tirade about Easter weekend coming up in April. Now I dont agree with him that he should have special days set aside just because he doesnt believe in what I believe . He still takes time off when we have our holidays and I have never heard him complaining that he doesnt have to complete a leave form for these days.

I really dont want to go into any debate regarding all the other beliefs that celebrate at different times, it is bad enough having one lot of Christians that celebrate Christmas in December, while another lot do so in January/February! Can you just imagine the utter chaos at work if time off was given to all the different beliefs?

The posting below sums it up pretty well:

In Florida , an atheist created a case against the upcoming Easter and Passover Holy days. He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians and Jews and observances of their holy days. The argument was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized days.

The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declaring, “Case dismissed!”

The lawyer immediately stood objecting to the ruling saying, “Your honour, How can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter and others. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah, yet my client and all other atheists have no such holidays.”

The judge leaned forward in his chair saying, “But you do. Your client, counsel, is woefully ignorant.”

The lawyer said, “Your Honour, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists.”

The judge said, “The calendar says April 1st is April Fools Day. Psalm 14:1 states, ‘The fool says in his heart, there is no God.’ Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that, if your client says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day.

Court is adjourned.”

You gotta love a Judge that knows his scripture!

Justice going blind

Being a senior prosecutor in the NPA (National Prosecuting Authority) is akin to placing your head on a chopping block and waiting for the axe to fall!

The latest suspension of senior prosecutor Glynnis Breytenbach for doing what she is paid to, namely, investigate crimes is just another suspension in a long line of suspensions within the NPA.

It seems that whenever a public prosecutor investigates a high-profile case against prominent people and they start getting too close to the truth they are either suspended, transferred or kicked out if they should continue with the investigations.

In Breytenbach’s latest case she was involved with the investigation into Julius Malema’s “family trust”, as well as investigating a criminal charge of fraud based on information that had come to light in a civil case in the North Gauteng High Court between Kumba and Imperial Crown Trading (ICT). The latter investigation is quite a politically sensitive one as President Jacob Zuma’s son, Duduzane, has links to ICT. Seems ICT used forged title deeds in obtaining mineral rights in Sishen. (Hope they investigate who printed the fake title deeds…) It seems that as long as you are family or a friend of president Zuma, or a senior member of the ANC, then investigations, court cases or prosecutions are just swept aside and ignored.

So now they have ordered Breytenbach to stop the investigation into Zuma’s son, which she has refused to do, and the NPA in turn has laid a charge against her for misuse of power.

In the past there have been similar occurrences in the NPA where senior prosecutors have been booted out for doing their work. Those who did drop sensitive investigations, suddenly got promotions and fancy titles.

Government intervention became blatantly highlighted when former president Thabo Mbeki had advocate Vusi Pikoli suspended because he refused to cover up the investigation into corruption charges against former police chief Jackie Selebi. This opened the floodgates and we ended up with investigations against various high profile people being withdrawn.

The NPA investigation to highlight crimes has now been compromised with this latest suspension as it would appear to outsiders that certain political leaders and their families are off limits and that prosecutions are more likely to take place against those who oppose the ANC. Good examples of investigations and court cases going nowhere is Winnie Mandela, Jacob Zuma, Zo Shabir, Lt.genl. Richard Mdluli and the likes.

Dr. Jan D’Oliveira SC, previously with the NPA, is on record as saying it is very sad that the NPA has deteriorated to the state that it is in now.

The government has in the last while has been pretty vocal in claiming that they now want to fight corruption, but when those who are trying to do are victimised by theses very people, it leaves a bad taste in the mouth and a concern that it can only get worse.

Extract of Bob Dylan song – The Lonesome Death of Hattie Caroll.

In the courtroom of honor, the judge pounded his gavel

To show tha all’s equal and that the courts are on the level

And that the strings in the books ain’t pulled and persuaded

And that even the Nobles get properly handled

Once the cops have chased after them and caught ém

And that the ladder of law has no top and no bottom

Stared at the person who killed for no reason

Who just happened to be feelin’ that way without warnin’

And he spoke through his cloak, most deep and distinguished

And handed out strongly, for penalty and repentance

William Zanzinger with a six month sentence

Oh, but you who philosophize disgrace and critize all fears

Bury the rag deep in your face

For now’s the time for your tears

Friday post

There was an article in the news today that a son of a government official crashed her official carwhile she was sleeping after attending some official function.

Now my question is did she give him permission, or did he just take the car hoping she didn’t wake up while he was out joy-riding?

As far as I know the rules around official vehicles is that only designated drivers are allowed to use the vehicle.  So the next statement from Madonsela is very interesting as it would seem to imply that not all is well……“I will submit myself to internal processes regarding the use of state vehicles in line with my terms and conditions of my employment. I have already made contact with the owners of the affected property and agreed to compensate them for the damage,” Now if mommy has contacted the owners of the property and offered to pay without checking insurance etc then personally I think she is trying to get out of this mess as quickly as possible!

Public Protector Thuli Madonsela said she would allow the law to take its course. Not that she can really say anything different under the circumstances.

So with her son screwing up it could possibly cost her her job. Tough break but in her position as Public Protector there must never be any scandal attached to position.

Just some idle musing while driving to work…

Faulty ANC celebration condoms

South Africa has one of the highest infection rates of HIV – the virus that causes Aids – in the world.

South Africa’s leading HIV group has warned that large numbers of “faulty” condoms are in circulation in the Bloemfontein area, despite a recall.

The problem with the condoms was discovered after people complained to the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC).

Health authorities have recalled more than one million condoms handed out ahead of the recent African National Congress centenary celebrations.

They say they are still investigating claims that the condoms are porous.

A batch of 8,700 boxes – which all bore the South African Bureau of Standards stamp – were delivered to guesthouses, hotels, restaurants and bars before the ANC celebrations. (this makes a mockery of products bearing the SABS stamp of approval)

The Free State Health Department says it is recalling the estimated 1.35 million condoms as a “precautionary measure” – and urged the public not to panic.

But TAC’s Sello Mokhalipi told the BBC that condoms “are still out there in large numbers and that is of great concern to us”.

“The complaints are that the condoms broke during intercourse,” he said.

TAC says it conducted its own investigation using some of the condoms that had been handed out for the centenary celebrations and found them to be porous.

“When you poured water in them, the water seeped through,” Mr Mokhalipi said. (Wow!!)

Free State Health Department spokesperson Jabu Mbalula said the health authority could neither confirm nor deny that the condoms are faulty until it has concluded its own tests on the recovered condoms. (will this be on used or un-used condoms?)

This is the first time that Free State province – which has a population of 5.5 million people – has had to recall condoms.

The last major recall of condoms in South Africa was in August 2007 when 20 million were recalled after “hundreds of thousands” were found to be faulty.

Italics are mine 🙂

Info from BBC News Africa.
