Le Fou Frog

Located in the Rivermarket, this little French restaurant has a solid reputation in Kansas City. I’ve heard for a few years about their fantastic happy hour specials with great cocktails and discounted eats. So I was excited to be invited along with some girlfriends on a recent Friday to enjoy an after work outting.

Just after 5:30 the place was starting to fill up. Many were dropping in to take advantage of the happy hour on their way to a night on the town, and others were already settling in for dinner. The small space is quite inviting, tables closely arranged and every wall space filled with something French.

Quick Mediterranean Pantry Pasta

We’ve all been there before – unexpected dinner guests or family coming to town with no time to stock up at the store. With every evening packed last week, it happened to me. But luckily one of my daily foodie news sources had perfect timing.

Just a day before my parents were to arrive in town, a recipe showed up in my inbox that sounded fantastic and all the ingredients were already in my pantry. I was volunteering until 7pm that night. But I knew with this awesome dish, I could have dinner on the table within 15 minutes of walking in the door.

And the Winner Is…..

The American Royal has named the winners of it’s first ever Steak Competition, and I’ve already got some ribeyes on the way to my kitchen!

The coveted title of Best Steak was handed out Thursday as part of the American Royal Wine Competition and Auction. It was a night of tempting and tasting with some of Kansas City’s best restaurants and wines from around the world.

There was more to taste than one mouth could handle. Reds and whites were flowing from numerous bottles entered into this year’s competition. And best of all, the winning wines were readily available for sampling. Eight local restaurants were serving up special creations in hopes of winning the Best Restaurant award.

Storied Desserts

On a recent Sunday night, I sat in the candle-lit elegance of a simple patio in Prairie Village. One of our last temperate evenings, the air had just a slight chill and but the wonderful food warmed our souls.

Oaxaca Punch

Fall has definitely arrived in Kansas City, but don’t let the cool weather keep you from enjoying a fantastic cocktail with flavorful fruit.

You might think of punch as a libation reserved for  summer cocktail parties by the pool, or maybe you have memories of drinking it out of a trash can in college. But this Oaxaca Punch recipe takes some of my favorite intoxicating ingredients to a whole new level.
