This paper concerns how extant theorists of predictive coding conceptualize and explain possible instances of cognitive penetration. §I offers brief clarification of the predictive coding framework and relevant mechanisms, and a brief characterization of cognitive penetration and some challenges that come with defining it. §II develops more precise ways that the predictive coding framework can explain, and of course thereby allow for, genuine top-down causal effects on perceptual experience, of the kind discussed in the context of cognitive penetration. (...) §III develops these insights further with an eye towards tracking one extant criterion for cognitive penetration, namely, that the relevant cognitive effects on perception must be sufficiently direct. Throughout these discussions, we extend the analyses of the predictive coding models, as we know them. So one open question that surfaces is how much of the extended analyses are genuinely just part of the predictive coding models, or something that must be added to them in order to generate these additional explanatory benefits. In §IV, we analyze and criticize a claim made by some theorists of predictive coding, namely, that (interesting) instances of cognitive penetration tend to occur in perceptual circumstances involving substantial noise or uncertainty. It is here that our analysis is most critical. We argue that, when applied, the claim fails to explain (or perhaps even be consistent with) a large range of important and uncontroversially interesting possible cases of cognitive penetration. The moral issues that occur for profit corporations are a unique function of many internal and external factors, including corporate policies and purpose, business regulations, and business governance's economic and political system. Several possible theoretical frameworks prescribe behavioral norms and standards of conduct to companies, such as utilitarianism, deontological ethics, or virtue ethics. In this paper, we argue although there are signs cant similarities between Kantian Ethics and ideal corporate cultures, Kantian ethics cannot fully be integrated into contemporary corporate practices. (...) Kant's theory of morality fundamentally fails to consistently accommodate the infamous given purpose of corporations, namely the profit-maximizer. Numerous benefits arise from employing network coding in multi-hop wireless networks, including enhanced throughput, reduced energy consumption, and decreased end-to-end delay. These advantages are a direct outcome of the minimized transmission count. This paper introduces a comprehensive framework to employ network coding in these networks. It refines decision-making at coding and decoding nodes simultaneously. The coding-nodes employ optimal stopping theory to (...) find optimal moments for packet transmission. Meanwhile, the decoding-nodes dynamically decide, through SMDP (Semi Markov Decision Process) problem formulation, whether to conserve energy by deactivating radio units or to stay active for improved coding by overhearing packets. The proposed framework, named ENCODE, enables nodes to learn how and when to use network coding over time. Simulation results compare its performance with existing approaches. Regina Fabry has proposed an intriguing marriage of enculturated cognition and predictive processing. I raise some questions for whether this marriage will work and warn against expecting too much from the predictive processing framework. Furthermore I argue that the predictive processes at a sub-personal level cannot be driving the innovations at a social level that lead to enculturated cognitive systems, like those explored in my target paper.

Purpose: This paper argues that the contemporary metacrisis is rooted in a critical misunderstanding of metanarratives. Dominant scholarship, following Lyotard, conflates metanarrative with explicit "grand narratives," overlooking their true function as the implicit, pre-conscious architecture of culture. The purpose is to reconceptualise metanarratives as foundational triadic structures of Value, Motivation, and Purpose (VMP) and to position this reformulation as the essential diagnostic and intervention framework for our systemic crises. Approach: The argument is developed through a plural epistemology, integrating neuropsychology (...) (McGilchrist’s hemispheric lateralisation), motivational science (critiquing and extending Self-Determination Theory), and narrative theory. It employs theoretical analysis and comparative case studies (Neoliberalism, Sumaq Kawsay, Western Christianity) to illustrate the causal primacy of VMP configurations over explicit narratives and worldviews. Results/Claims: The paper proposes: (1) The VMP Triad as the deep "grammar" shaping perception and behaviour; (2) Integral Motivation Theory (IMT) as a model framing motivation as alignment with ontological value; (3) The metacrisis as a dominance of extrinsic VMP codes pathologically reinforcing left-hemisphere attention; and (4) Master Storytelling as the discipline for diagnosing and recalibrating these metanarrative structures.
