    In a recent Philosophy of Science article Gerhard Schurz proposes meta-inductivistic prediction strategies as a new approach to Hume's. This comment examines the limitations of Schurz's approach. It can be proven that the meta-inductivist approach does not work any more if the meta-inductivists have to face an infinite number of alternative predictors.     In Metaphysical Emergence, Jessica Wilson recognises the problem of higher-level causation as “the most pressing challenge to taking the appearances of emergent structure as genuine” (2021: 39). Then, Wilson states that there are “two and only two strategies of response to this problem” (2021: 40) that lead to Strong and Weak emergence. In this paper, I suggest that there might be an alternative strategy—not opposite, but different in kind—to approach this difficulty. As noticed by Wilson, the (...) of higher-level causation was formulated and made central by Jaegwon Kim. However, Kim’s arguments were grounded on distinct metaphysical principles—including Alexander’s Dictum and its analysis in terms of causal powers. Rather than following Kim’s formulation and responding to the problem he raised in his own terms, a different approach may be to question the pertinence of the metaphysical framework in which these arguments were originally grounded. The problem of higher-level causation, in other words, might be less “pressing” if ontological emergence came with a less strict and univocal view of causal novelty and ontological relevance.     This paper proposes that the free pragmatic enrichment process of narrowing can explain the context-sensitivity of knowledge attribution sentences, which is a central tenet of epistemic contextualism. Epistemic contextualism is a semantic thesis about the truth-conditions of knowledge attribution sentences of the form “S knows that p.”Even though it is a linguistic claim, it is proposed to solve an epistemic problem, i.e., the threat posed by Cartesian-style sceptical arguments. The rough idea behind epistemic contextualism’s solution to the sceptical (...) is to argue that the premises of Cartesian-style sceptical arguments (specifically, the first one) generate a context in which the epistemic standards for knowledge attribution are extremely high and impossible to meet, leading to the sceptical conclusion: “S does not know that p”; under those standards, the sceptical conclusion seems to be true.
