    Tarot cards are a rich and fascinating art form. They are also an excellent tool for inquiry. I show why tarot has value, regardless of the user’s beliefs about magic. And I explain how novice or skeptical tarot users can appreciate (and create) that value by focusing on the card’s images, rather than consulting texts or expert guides. This is because, on a naturalistic conception, tarot’s zetetic value—that is, its value to inquiry—stems from its artistic properties.

    Tarot is widely disdained as a way of finding things out. Critics claim it is bunk or—worse— a wretched scam. This disdain misunderstands both tarot and the activity of finding thing out. I argue that tarot is an excellent tool for inquiry. It initiates and structures percipient conversation and contemplation about important, challenging, and deep topics. It galvanises creative attention, especially towards inward-looking, introspective inquiry and openminded, collaborative inquiry with others.   3. A Mathematical Formalization of Divination: Hybridizing Astrology and Tarot.Ryusho Nemoto - manuscript
    This paper presents a mathematical formalization of divination by integrating two major systems: astrology and tarot. Astrology is modeled as a set of continuous variables determined by planetary positions, while tarot is treated as a discrete symbolic system with probabilistic selection. By combining the astrological horoscope vector with the symbolic draw of tarot cards, a hybrid model emerges that embodies both determinacy and chance, structure and randomness.     I argue a case for interpreting Yeats through the metaphysics of The Order of the Golden Dawn and the human/cosmic life cycle of their Rider-Waite tarot deck.
