This is Platform 1 at Flinders St Station at around 8PM, looking towards the Aquarium, which can just be seen in the murk. I’d be a rotten train driver, as I’d be constantly distracted by the pretty, jewel-like traffic signals. Also, my psychological response to a red light is to want to speed up. Is that just me? If Vic Roads wanted to design a traffic light colour that would make me want to slow down, they’d probably have to make it a restful colour – like beige.

Every few minutes at Southbank a jet of flame issues from nozzles that line the waterfront. These eruptions are powered by the hysteria generated in the nearby casino. This is a view of the Princes Bridge at Southbank, as seen after blowing the dinner money in said casino.
